William Gary Cooper, 58, of San Angelo died Saturday, June 20, 1998, at his
residence. Services are pending at Gutierrez Funeral Chapels.

			Dorothy McAlexander

Dorothy L. McAlexander, 78, of San Angelo died Monday, June 22, 1998, in a
local nursing center. Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Johnson's Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Webb of Harris Avenue Baptist Church
officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery. She was born Nov. 7, 1919,
in Dallas. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include a
son, James Neal of San Angelo; a brother, James Newberry of Belton; and two
grandchildren.

			Santiago Samaniego

Santiago Samaniego, 79, of San Angelo died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in a local
nursing home. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today in Johnson's Funeral Home
Chapel. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Lawnhaven Memorial
Gardens with Cresencio Rodriguez officiating. He was born Dec. 24, 1918, in
Junction and was a longtime resident of San Angelo. He was a sheepshearer.
Survivors include his wife, Beatriz Samaniego of San Angelo; a son, Santiago
Samaniego Jr. of San Angelo; three brothers, Raul Samaniego and Andres
Samaniego, both of San Angelo, and Evaristo Samaniego of Ciudad Acuna; a
sister, Auorora Ramirez of San Angelo; and two grandchildren.

			Charley Swindle

GOLDTHWAITE - Charley Swindle, 83, of Goldthwaite died Saturday, June 20, 1998,
in a Temple hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. today in Stacy-Wilkins Funeral
Home Chapel with burial in Indian Gap Cemetery. He was born Jan. 26, 1915, in
Indian Gap. He was a farmer and rancher and a Baptist. Survivors include his
wife, Maudine Swindle of Goldthwaite; a brother, Ralph Swindle of Los Altos,
Calif.; a sister, Zelma Hays of Goldthwaite; and numerous nieces and nephews.

			Joseph Sanders

KINGSLAND - Joseph Johnson Sanders, 78, of Kingsland died Saturday, June 20,
1998, in Austin. Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waldrope-Hatfield-
Hawthorne Funeral Home with military graveside service in Lakeland Hills
Memorial Park in Burnet County. He was born Aug. 25, 1919, in Howe and had
lived in Kingsland since 1966. He was a retired captain in the Army National
Guard and had been a land developer. He was an Army veteran of World War II and
was an Episcopalian. Survivors include his wife, Jean Sanders of Kingsland; a
son, Arnie Riffe of Austin; three daughters, Jo Neal Prendergast of Austin,
Mary Ann Harris of Sunrise Beach and Laura Bousquet of Bastrop; a brother,
Robert William Sanders of Houston; eight grandchildren; and three great-
grandchildren.

			Wanda Youts

DIMMITT - Wanda Youts, 77, of Dimmitt died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in Hart.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Foskey-Lilley-McGill Funeral Home Ivey
Chapel with burial in Castro Memorial Gardens. She was born Jan. 26, 1921, in
Elmer, Okla. She worked in the lunchroom of the Dimmitt Independent School
District for many years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Charles T. Youts Jr. of Laredo; three
daughters, Charlette Sanders of San Angelo, Shirley Carpenter of Lubbock and
LaWanda Quintero of Hart; three brothers, Paul Williams and Leroy Williams,
both of Wichita Falls, and Laverne Williams of Bowie; a sister, Willie Moore of
Columbia, N.C.; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

			Juan Gaytan

SWEETWATER - Juan Esteban Gaytan, 39, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in
Sweetwater. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Catholic Church with burial in Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are by McCoy
Funeral Home. He was born June 24, 1958, in Juarez, Mexico, and had lived in
Sweetwater for 16 years. He was a cement finisher for Big Spring Bridge Co. and
was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Survivors include his
wife, Maria Gaytan, a daughter, Adriana Gaytan, and a son, Sergio M. Gaytan,
all of Sweetwater; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Esteban Gaytan of Juarez; a
sister, Carmen Zamorano of Odessa; and five brothers, Richard Gaytan of Odessa,
Ernesto Gaytan of El Paso, and Hector Gaytan, Edwardo Gaytan and Oscar Gaytan,
all of Juarez.

			Ruby Hodnett

BIG SPRING - Ruby Fay Hodnett, 84, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in a local
nursing home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity Memorial
Park. Arrangements are by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. She was born Aug.
6, 1913, in Katemcy and had lived in Big Spring since 1923. She was a homemaker
and a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two daughters, Jo Nell
Daniels of Big Spring and Linda Kay Black of Oklahoma City; two sons, James
Hodnett and Lynn Hodnett, both of Big Spring; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-
grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

EARLY - Mae E. Wilder, 85, of Brownwood died Monday, June 22, 1998, in a
Brownwood hospital. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenleaf
Cemetery. Arrangements are by Heartland Funeral Home. She was born Aug. 2,
1912, in Rochelle and was a lifetime resident of Brown County. She was a
homemaker and a Baptist. Survivors include a daughter, Debra McWilliams of
Brownwood; a brother, Manuel Cunningham of Brady; two sisters, Ora Nell Cavin
of Brady and Sondra Piel of San Angelo; seven grandchildren; six great-
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

			LEM MATTHEWS

Lem Matthews, 79, of Carlsbad died Sunday, June 21, 1998, at his residence.
Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, at
Johnson's Funeral Home. Lem was born Aug. 2, 1918, in Leaday. He was retired
from the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his first wife,
Heide Matthews. Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Randolph Matthews of
Carlsbad; two brothers, A.J. Matthews and Les Matthews, both of Seattle; two
sisters; and cousins, Leck Matthews and Willie Matthews, both of Coleman.

			L.D. MUND

ELDORADO - L.D. ``Jelly'' Mund went home to be with his Lord Sunday, June 21,
1998, at 2:35 p.m. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, in
the Eldorado Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kerbow Funeral Home. Jelly was born
Oct. 7, 1919, in Schleicher County. He married Norma Lynn Hodges Nov. 2, 1940,
and their home has been in Eldorado since that time. He was a veteran of World
War II serving in the Army's 82nd Airborne Division and an active member of
American Legion Post 257. Jelly was a loving husband, father, grandfather and
friend who always put others first. For those who knew him, he was fun-loving
and always willing to share his humor. He will be greatly missed by all. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Frances Mund; one brother,
Charles Orland Mund; and one sister, Bonnie Yates. Survivors include his wife
of 57 years, Norma Lynn Mund; his three daughters, Jeannie Stockton and
husband, Curtis, of Houston, Marsha Pearce and husband, Fred, of Pecos and
Norma Kay Pederson and husband, Mark, of Midland; 14 grandchildren, Trey and
Lisa Stockton, Ron Griffin, Todd and Mya Griffin, Shanie Griffin, Travis and
Lorne Pederson, Chad and Stephanie Pederson, Ricky and Leslie Pearce, and Rory
and Ioulia Pearce; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Charlene Edmiston and
husband, Orval, of Eldorado; one brother, Charles ``Tart'' Mund and wife,
Wallie, of New Braunfels; one brother-in-law, Jack Hodges and wife, Martha, of
Niederwald; and many nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers are Curtis
Stockton III, Ron Griffin, Todd Griffin, Shanie Griffin, Travis Pederson and
Chad Pederson. The family would like to express a special thanks to Bob and

SONORA - Lucia Mendez Sanchez, 59, of Sonora died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in a
San Angelo hospital. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at the
Primera Iglesia Bautista with burial in Sonora Cemetery. Arrangements are by
Kerbow Funeral Home. Mrs. Sanchez was born Aug. 26, 1938, in Sonora. She was a
lifetime resident and a member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista. Survivors
include her husband, Samuel Sanchez of Sonora; three sons and their wives,
Sammy and Carri Sanchez of Ranger, George and Rosa Sanchez and Abel and Monica
Sanchez, all of Sonora; four sisters and their husbands, Quela and the Rev.
Frank Flores of San Antonio, Lala and Maria Duran of Sonora, Amparo and
Zaragoza Esquevel of Eldorado and Hermina and Rojelio Carranza of Fort Worth;
and six grandchildren, Ross Sanchez, Austin Sanchez, Jacinda Sanchez, Isaac
Sanchez, Samantha Sanchez and Grady Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her
parents, Sabino and Petra Mendez; and an infant daughter, Ida Sanchez. God saw
you getting tired,

BRONTE - Chelsea Jo Johnson, 14, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in a San Angelo
hospital.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, in Fairview Cemetery
with Dr. David Womack of Calvary Baptist Church of San Angelo officiating.
Arrangements are by Shaffer Funeral Home. The family requests that no black be
worn to the services.
Chelsea was born Feb. 28, 1984, in San Angelo. She had lived in Bronte all of
her life.
Survivors include hergrandmother, Dixie Johnson of Bronte; one sister, Calli Jo
Johnson of Bronte; one aunt, Paula Johnson of Bronte; and two great-aunts and
great-uncles, Pat and Allen Bishop of Winters and Betty and Jimmy Criswell of
Miles. Chelsea also is survived by many special friends.
Chelsea's caregivers will act as her honorary pallbearers. They are as follows:
Roselle Hall, Margaret Alderman, Jim Raines, April Oden and Roberta Wilcox.

1910, in Mills County and was a lifetime resident. He was a rancher and a
member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include four sons, Rodney House of
Mart, Gary House of Huntsville, Wayne House of Plains and Dayton House of
Mullin; a brother, Jim Tom House of Brenham; four sisters, Billie Jo Humphries
of Austin, Nora B. Soloman of Waco, Ann Stachowiak of Brownsville and Alpha

PECOS - Irene Orona Garzon, 60, of Pecos died Thursday, June 18, 1998, in
California. Service will be at 10 a.m. today at Santa Rosa Catholic Church with
burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Pecos Funeral Home. She was
born April 5, 1938, and was a lifetime resident of Pecos. She was a homemaker
and a Catholic. Survivors include a daughter, Isabel Garzon of Bakersfield,
Calif.; two sons, Ernesto Orona and Luiz Garzon Jr., both of Bakersfield; seven
brothers, Manuel Orona of Stockton, Calif., Santiago Orona, Leandron Orona,

McCAMEY - Lucille Halamicek, 96, died Monday, June 22, 1998, in a local nursing
home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Resthaven Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Richard W. Box Funeral Home. She was born Oct. 26, 1901, in
Bellville and was a longtime resident of McCamey. She was a Baptist. She is
survived by a son, Eddy Halamicek of McCamey.

SAN SABA - Ted Burnham, 87, of San Saba died Monday, June 22, 1998, in Llano.
Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with
burial in Bend Methodist Cemetery. He was born Dec. 30, 1910, in San Saba
County and was a lifetime resident. He was a pecan harvester and a member of
the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Burnham
of San Saba; a brother, Jack Burnham of Cleburne; a sister, Lois Ledbetter of
Buchanan Dam; and several nieces and nephews.

			James Ertle

MUNCIE, Ind. - James R. Ertle, 69, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at his
residence. Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Elm Ridge Funeral Home with
burial in Elm Ridge Memorial Park. He retired from Delco Battery in 1985, after
37 years of service, and was a member of the Normal City United Methodist
Church. Survivors include his wife, Anna J. Ertle of Muncie; three sons, Wayne
H. Ertle of Yorktown, James R. Ertle Jr. of Muncie and Ronald R. Ertle of San
Angelo; three brothers; four sisters; eight grandchildren; and four great-
grandchildren.

			Samuel Neely

KERRVILLE - Samuel O. Neely, 80, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at his residence.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Kerrville Funeral Home Chapel with burial
in Glen Rest Cemetery. He was born June 16, 1918, in Smiley and had lived in
Kerrville since 1967. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a butcher and had
worked for Food City Grocery Store. He was a Baptist and a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include three sons, David Neely of
Kerrville, Ron Neely of Mountain Home, Ark., and Hobby Neely of Ingram; two
brothers, Dwight Neely of San Antonio and Bill Neely of Tucson; five sisters,
Merle Stokes of Rockdale, Mildred Randolph of Karnes City, Sue Pavilska of
Floresville, Doris Copeland of Seguin and Patsy Drake of San Antonio; three
grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

BIG SPRING - Inez Kerr, 94, of Sand Springs died Monday, June 22, 1998, at her
residence. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today in Lakeview Cemetery in
Marietta, Okla. Arrangements are by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. She was
born Feb. 6, 1904, in Marietta and was a longtime resident before moving to
Sand Springs one year ago. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for
28 years and was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons,
Larry Kerr of Sand Springs and Jack Kerr of Marietta; nine grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

			Cliffie Graham

ROSCOE - Cliffie G. Graham, 77, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in a local care
center. Masonic graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Roscoe
Cemetery. Arrangements are by McCoy Funeral Home. He was born Dec. 14, 1920, in
Roscoe and was a lifetime resident. He was a World War II veteran and worked
for West Texas Gulf Pipeline as an engineer for 35 years. He was a member of
the First United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge 571. Survivors include his
wife, Mary Jane Graham of Roscoe; a daughter, Linda Osborne of Howe; a stepson,
Larry Cornoyer III of Fort Worth; three grandsons; and several nieces and
nephews.

			Irene Jacques

SWEETWATER - Irene T. Jacques, 68, of Sweetwater died Monday, June 22, 1998, in
a Lubbock hospital. Service will be at 11 a.m. today at Immaculate Heart of
Mary Catholic Church with burial in Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are by
McCoy Funeral Home. She was born March 14, 1930, in Sweetwater. She worked as a
licensed vocational nurse for 22 years at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital and
was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Survivors include her
husband, O.M. Jacques of Sweetwater; a son, Rodney Jacques of Sweetwater; a
daughter, Lydia Steele of Uvalde; two sisters, Margaret Virgen and Lydia Reyes,
both of Sweetwater; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

BIG SPRING - Sig Rogers, 91, of Big Spring died Monday, June 22, 1998, in a
Conroe hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Myers & Smith Funeral
Home Chapel with burial in Trinity Memorial Park. He was born March 20, 1907,
in Terre Haute, Ind., and had lived in Big Spring since 1950. He owned Sig
Rogers Sign Shop, worked as missionary and was a member of the Temple Assembly
of God Church. Survivors include his wife, Eula Mae Rogers of Big Spring; a
daughter, Sharon L. Rick of Big Spring; a son, Steve Rogers of Fairplay, Colo.;
a brother, Dick Rogers of Port O'Connor; three sisters, Joan Wilson of Chester,
Calif., and Sunday Brush and Jeannetta Turnmire, both of Whittier, Calif.; two
grandsons; and numerous nieces and nephews.

			HOWARD TAYLOR COLLIER JR.

PECOS - The family of Howard Taylor Collier Jr. mourned his passing on Monday,
June 22, 1998. Howard died at his home after a long illness. A lifelong
resident of Reeves County, Howard was the son of pioneer ranchers. H.T. Collier
Sr. and Mae Ward Collier, some of the first homesteaders of ranching country in
Reeves County near Toyah Creek. Howard attended Pecos schools and graduated
from Pecos High School. He also attended TCU and Texas Tech. He returned home
to work with his parents in the ranching business. He married Ethel Armstrong,
daughter of another pioneer Pecos family, on Nov. 9, 1941. Howard served in the
U.S. Army beginning in 1943 and was discharged upon the death of his father in
1945 in order to return to the ranch to supply beef for the war effort. Howard
and Ethel ranched in the Orla area on the Angeles and Screwbean ranches, and at
one time had ranching interests in three counties. He moved his family to the
home place, Hoban Ranch on Toyah Creek, where he ranched, farmed and raised
three children, Drue C. Stanford, Howard T. Collier III and Cathryn C. Godfrey.
Howard was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church and an ardent
supporter of the Reeves County 4-H Club, the Pecos Museum and the West of the
Pecos Rodeo. As a young boy, Howard participated in the Pecos Rodeo as a trick
roper. His father participated in the first West of the Pecos Rodeo in 1883.
Howard also served as Reeves County Democratic chairman for a number of years
and was on the Toyah-Limpia Water Conservation District Board of Directors for
29 years. Howard is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ethel Jane Armstrong
Collier; daughters, Drue Stanford and husband, Charles, of Verhalen, and Cathy
Godfrey and husband, Mike, of Georgetown; son, Bo Collier of Abilene; five
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Following a private family
service, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the
First Christian Church in Pecos. Pecos Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Bloy's Camp Meeting
Association in Fort Davis or the West of the Pecos Museum.

		DOROTHY LaVONIA McALEXANDER

Dorothy LaVonia McAlexander passed away from this life Monday, June 22, 1998,
at 2:45 a.m. Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, in Johnson's Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Webb of Harris Avenue Baptist Church
officiating. Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery. Dorothy may best be
remembered as Dorothy Peavy during a sales career at Barnes & Co. and at
Hemphill-Wells Co. during the years 1958-1970. Her sales expertise was in hats,
bags and gloves. Dorothy also handmade many hats, ``Hats by Dorothy,'' for
social events and weddings in the San Angelo area, including Eden, Mason,
Sonora, Ozona and Fort Stockton. She was born Dorothy LaVonia Newberry on Nov.
7, 1919, in Dallas. She was raised along with her brother, James Newberry, in
Belton, Texas, by her mother and grandmother. Dorothy is survived by a son,
James L. Neal Sr. and loving daughter-in-law, Gloria, of San Angelo;
granddaughter, Cheryl and her husband, Greg Weadon, of Tucson; grandson, James
L. ``Jimmy'' Neal Jr. of San Angelo; one brother, James Newberry and his wife,
Margie; and three nieces and one nephew, all of Belton. Dorothy married Dr.
Edward J. McAlexander in 1967, having 25 loving years together, until his death
in 1992.

			DONALD BANE BOWEN

Donald Bane ``Big Don'' Bowen was born in San Angelo, Texas, Feb. 23, 1919, to
Clyde A. and Barsha Ketchum Bowen. He died in San Angelo Tuesday, June 23,
1998, from complications of cancer. He grew up on a ranch in Sterling County.
His family moved to the ranch near Robert Lee, Texas, in 1937. He graduated
from Texas A&M University in 1940; married Josephine Butt of San Angelo on
Christmas Day 1942; and shipped out three months later. He served as a
decorated combat company commander on New Guinea, Morati and Mindanao for
almost two years with the 31st Infantry Division. Postwar, he served 10 years
in the Texas National Guard, retiring as a major. He and his family moved to
Abilene, Texas, in 1952, where he was the manager of Childs' Ready-Mix Concrete
until 1967, when he moved back to the family ranch. He was active in Rotary for
30 years, serving as president of two different clubs. His return to ranching
rekindled his artistic talent, and he became a noted western sculptor. His
bronzes have been used annually by the United Way, and given annually as awards
by the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers' and National Rambouillet Breeders'
associations, as well as auctioned for the West Texas Rehabilitation Center
telethon. His ``Half Section'' bronze is on display at Field Artillery
facilities in Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas. He was recently honored by the city of
San Angelo when his ``200%'' piece was enlarged and installed at South Bryant
Boulevard and West Avenue J as the ``Wool Capital Landmark.'' He is survived by
his wife, Josephine; two children, J. Donald of Abilene and Houston and Donna
Jo of Austin; as well as five grandchildren. He also is survived by his two
sisters, Gloriadel Mallan of Midland and Phyllis Baugh of San Antonio. He was a
longtime member of Johnson Street Church of Christ, where a celebration of his
life will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 25, following a private burial in
Fairmount Cemetery. Johnson's Funeral Home is handling arrangements. He was
active in the Rehab and Meals for the Elderly, but the family asks that any
memorials be made at the discretion of the rememberer.

Violet Ruth Sallie, 72, of San Angelo died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at 1:18 a.m.
in a local hospital. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, in
Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, officiated by the Rev. Charles Beal. Arrangements
are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Violet was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Mineral
Wells.She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Violet was a dedicated
Christian and instilled Christian values in her three daughters. She was a
loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She will be missed but will
live on in our hearts. Violet was preceded in death by her mom and dad, Callie
and Luther Robertson; two brothers, Clarence and William Robertson; and one
sister, Helen Lee. Survivors include her three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy

Mr. Brown, the youngest of 15 children, was born Aug. 30, 1917, to William and

He was born Dec. 9, 1911, in Old Glory, Texas, and lived most of his life in
Eden. He was a rancher and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors
include his wife, Evelyn Hendricks Spiser of Eden; two sons, Joe Spiser of
Austin and Bob Spiser of San Antonio; one daughter, Sandra Briggs of Belton;

April 25, 1928, in Corsicana and was a longtime resident of Fort Stockton. An
Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a test engineer at the Firestone Test
Track and a member of the First Presbyterian Church and Fraternal Order of the
Eagles Aerie 3220. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Archer of Fort Stockton;
two sons, Ricky Archer of Houston and Randy Archer of Fort Stockton; a sister,
June Archer of Corsicana; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

11, 1925, in Colorado City and was a longtime resident of Kermit. She was a

17, 1947, in Kerman, Calif., and had lived in Big Spring for four years. He was

1923, in London. She served as justice of the peace of Precinct 4 of Crane

EARLY - Cecil Edwin Pinson, 68, of San Angelo and formerly of Brownwood, died
Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in a San Angelo hospital. Graveside service will be
at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, in Eastlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the
Rev. Kevin Capps officiating. Arrangements are by Heartland Funeral Home. Mr.
Pinson was born April 12, 1930, in San Saba County to Zim and Mollie Wrenn
Pinson. He attended school in Rochelle, where he graduated. He served in the
United States Army during the Korean War. On April 9, 1954, he married Patricia
Oakley in Brownwood. He retired after 35 years as an optician in San Angelo. He
was a member of Park Heights Baptist Church in San Angelo. Survivors include
his wife, Patricia Ann Pinson of San Angelo; one son, Doug Pinson of San
Angelo; two daughters, Penni Morrison of Early and Patti Taylor of Midland; two
brothers, Oran Pinson of Brownwood and Bert Pinson of Brazoria; three sisters,
Dorothy Eoff, Vera Huddleston and Lennie Neal, all of Early; 10 grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four
brothers and one sister.

COLORADO CITY - Beulah Lester, 75, of Colorado City died Monday, June 22, 1998,
in a Dallas hospital. Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 1998, at
the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kay Reed officiating. Burial
will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kiker-Seale
Funeral Home. Mrs. Lester was born Oct. 7, 1922, in Big Spring and was a
longtime resident of Colorado City, having lived in Iraan and Eldorado for
several years. She married William C. Lester on April 4, 1942, in Fort Worth.
He preceded her in death on June 16, 1990. She was a homemaker and a member of
the First United Methodist Church. She was an active volunteer with the Heart
of West Texas Museum and the Colorado City Opera House. She was instrumental in
organizing class reunions and Old Settlers Reunions. Survivors include two sons
and daughters-in-law, Bill and Bobbie Lester of McCamey and Bob and Nancy
Lester of Eldorado; one daughter and son-in-law, Bunny and Bob Ruddick of De
Soto; three grandchildren, Amy Lester, Jennifer Ruddick and Sam Ruddick; a
sister-in-law, Mary Frances Moore of Lubbock; and four cousins, Harriett Ann
Richardson and Mildred Smith, both of Big Spring, Marie Hale of Llano and Mary
Robinson of Washington, D.C. She also was preceded in death by her parents,
Homer and Beulah Robinson; two brothers; and a grandson, Justin Lester. The

JUNCTION - Nellie Freelin Randolph, 92, of Junction passed away Wednesday, June
24, 1998, in Junction. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 26, at the First
United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Bradford officiating, assisted by
the Rev. Carl Rohlfs of the First United Methodist Church in San Angelo. Burial
will follow in the Copperas Cemetery in western Kimble County. Arrangements are
by Aubrey Fife Funerals. Nellie was born March 11, 1906, on the Bennett Ranch
in Kimble County. Her parents, Stephen P. and Martha Ann (Mattie) Bennett, were
pioneer Kimble County settlers. Nellie had lived in Kimble County her entire
life. She had been an active member of the Methodist church since youth and was
educated in Kimble County schools. She graduated with honors from the
University of Texas in 1928 and then taught at Junction High School until 1939.
She married Jesse Ramsey Randolph on June 21, 1933. He preceded her in death on
Oct. 24, 1997. Survivors include one son, Frank Randolph of Junction;
grandchildren, Jeannie Duncan and husband, Brad, of Tulsa, Okla., and Mark
Randolph and wife, Connie, of Buda; one great-grandson, Ramsey Allen Randolph
of Buda; a sister-in-law, Catherine Randolph of Junction; one older brother,
Millard Bennett; and a nephew, Millard Leon (Onnie) Bennett and his wife, Mary
Lee, of Junction.

are by Preddy Funeral Home. Mrs. Neill was born Sept. 18, 1913, in Glencoe,
N.M. Survivors include two daughters, Kay Nash of Fort Gibson, Okla., and
Roylan Sullivan of Ozona; one sister, Sue Vincius of Mansfield; eight
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one
son, Dean Hardee Culp II.

			JIM NEAL BEAN SR.

Jim Neal Bean Sr. passed away at 5:20 p.m. Thursday, June 25, 1998, in Baker-
Brame Nursing Center. Jim, a well-known photographer, was born Jan. 28, 1920,
in Wall, Texas, to Will and Leah Bean. An Air Force lieutenant in World War II,
he served as a transport pilot in Europe and North Africa and later worked as a
free-lance photographer for National Geographic Magazine, The Associated Press
and the Pathe Films News Service. Jim established Jim Bean Studios in the
mid-'40s and was forced to retire in 1978 due to a massive stroke. Jim was an
inspiration not only to his family but to all who had the privilege to know
him. He loved people, he loved his country, and he served many years in the
West Side Lions Club. He passed his positive, confident attitude about life and
the human condition on to all he encountered. Jim was preceded in death by his
parents; and brother, Dennis. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Madeline;
sons, Jim Jr. and Ted; his brother, Clayton; four stepchildren; eight
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Graveside service will be at 10
a.m. Monday, June 28, in the Protestant Cemetery in Wall. Arrangements are by
Robert Massie Funeral Home. The family wishes to express appreciation to the

McKinzie on Aug. 27, 1932, in Fouke. They moved to Ballinger in 1939. She
preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 1988. He was foreman of the cheese plant in
Ballinger for many years, where he was known as ``Pappy.'' He later went to
work at Mueller Supply Co. in Ballinger, where he picked up the name of ``Mr.
Mack.'' He was a member of the Seventh Street Baptist Church in Ballinger.
Derwood is survived by five sons, Roy Gene and his wife, Betty, Glenn W. and
his wife, Jettie, Harold W. and his wife, Carolyn, Bobby V., and Billy L. and
his wife, Jeanie, all of San Angelo; his stepmother, Florence Pate of
Texarkana; a brother, Boice McKnight of Wake Villa; and four sisters, Pauline
Morphew, Jean Bradshaw and Barbara McKnight, all of Texarkana, and Aubrey
Palmer of Baltimore. He also is survived by 14 grandchildren and 13 great-
grandchildren. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Charles, Wayne, Randy, Landy and
Roy Gene II McKnight, Robert Wilson and Kenneth Foeppel. The family requests
that memorials be made to the Seventh Street Baptist Church Building Fund or a
favorite charity.

		WILLIAM E. `TOMMY' THOMPSON

William E. ``Tommy'' Thompson, 83, of San Angelo died at 2:17 a.m. Saturday,
June 27, 1998, in a local hospital. William was born Sept. 15, 1914, in Bland,
Va. He married Ruth Murray on May 2, 1942. She preceded him in death in 1987.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army Artillery at age 17 and served in combat during
World War II and rose to the rank of master sergeant. He retired from the Air
Force after the Korean War. He was shop foreman with the Civil Service at
Goodfellow Air Force Base and was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
He is survived by three brothers, Shular Thompson of Bland, Charlie Thompson of
Wytheville, Va., and Eugene Thompson of Bastian, Va.; one sister, Alma Thompson
of Bastian; four sisters-in-law, Marie Scarborough of San Antonio, Alberta Moos
of Minneola, Merle Murray of Brandon, Miss., and Loretta Thompson of Bland; and
a number of nieces and nephews. Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 30,
in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Young officiating. Military
graveside honors will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

JUNCTION - Margaret (Simpson) Beasley, 80, of Junction died Saturday, June 27,

in Aubrey Fife Funerals Chapel with interment in Junction Cemetery. Margaret
was born July 30, 1917, in Denton County. She graduated with a bachelor's
degree in journalism in 1937 from Texas Woman's University at Denton. She did
graduate work at the University of Texas and took special courses at
Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and the University of Houston. She
was employed by the Texas Restaurant Association in Austin for 25 years as
executive assistant, director of public relations and editor of the TRA's trade
publication. Margaret married Joseph Weldon Beasley on April 13, 1962, in
Roswell, N.M. She assisted her husband in his law office and tax practice in
Junction until his death on March 20, 1993. She was a member of First
Presbyterian Church in Junction and was treasurer from 1966 to 1975. She also
was a member of the American Association for University Women, Daedalian Study
Club, Theta Sigma Phi Junction Chapter No. 497 and Order of the Eastern Star.
Mrs. Beasley is survived by a sister, Mrs. Gordon Mitchell of Irving; a
stepdaughter, Dinah Walters of Beaumont; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Jack Jarvis
ofJunction; a brother-in-law, Charles Beasley of Uvalde; and numerous nieces,

BIG SPRING - Eddie Lou Phernetton, 54, of Coahoma died Sunday, June 28, 1998,
in a local hospital. Service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Nalley-Pickle &
Welch Rosewood Chapel with burial in Trinity Memorial Park. She was born Sept.
25, 1943, in Big Spring and had lived in Coahoma since 1974. She was a
hairdresser and worked at the Downtowner and La Contessa. Survivors include her
husband, Gus Phernetton of Coahoma; three sons, Jim Phernetton and Robbie
Phernetton, both of Big Spring, and Jeff Phernetton of Midland; two daughters,
Sheron Schattel and Tammy Phernetton, both of Midland; her parents, Elliott and
Mary Lou Digby of Big Spring; five sisters, Iwana Huckaby and Vera Rhoades,
both of Chandler, Linda McCartney and Kay Grigg, both of Big Spring, and
Saundra Powers of Cecilia, Ky.; and seven grandchildren.

BIG SPRING - R.E. ``Gene'' Dupuy Jr., 69, died Saturday, June 27, 1998. Service
will be at 2 p.m. today at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with burial
in Trinity Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral
Home. He was born June 29, 1928, in Vernon. An Army veteran, he had worked as
an air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanic at the Veterans Administration
Medical Center and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Dupuy of Big Spring; six children, Robert
Dupuy of San Antonio, and Julie Luna, Cheryl Bullard, Jeannie Warr, Gerald
Dupuy and Alicia Elam, all of Snyder; a stepdaughter, Dr. Katherine Timmins
Vollmers of Houston; a stepson, David Timmins; his mother, Velma Obera Dupuy of
Midland; a sister, Cynthia Owens of Midland; 11 grandchildren; and five great-
grandchildren.

SWEETWATER - Bertie Lee Rodgers, 73, of Odessa died Monday, June 29, 1998, in
Odessa. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today in Roscoe Cemetery.
Arrangements are by McCoy Funeral Home. She was born May 4, 1925, in Seep
Springs. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, William Frank
Rodgers of Odessa; three sons, Robert Joe Miller of San Angelo, Curtis Monroe
Miller of Roswell, N.M., and Jimmy Leon Miller of Odessa; a sister, Marie
Schugart of Austin; a stepson, Mike Rodgers of Cleburne; a stepdaughter,
Carolyn Gardner of Midland; 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and
several nieces and nephews.

			MELVIN L. BELL

Melvin L. Bell, 79, of San Angelo died Saturday, June 27, 1998, at his
residence. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, in Lawnhaven
Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Paul Terry, chaplain for Hospice of San Angelo,
officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. He was born Jan. 19,
1919, in Bell County and was retired after owning Oberkampf Plumbing Supply for
more than 40 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1943. Survivors
include his wife of 57 years, June Bell; one daughter and son-in-law, Lorena
and Joel Muzquiz of Springtown, Texas; one son, Stephen Bell of Austin; two
grandchildren, Kristin Deemer and J.T. Muzquiz; one brother, Loyd Bell of San
Angelo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a very loving husband and
father and will be missed by his many friends. The family requests that
memorials be made to the donor's favorite charity.

FREDERICKSBURG - Mrs. Lee B. Feuge, nee Bertha Lena Sophie Lehmann, 87, passed
away Sunday, June 28, 1998, in Fredericksburg Nursing Home. Mrs. Feuge is
survived by her husband, Lee B. Feuge of San Angelo; two daughters and spouses,
Leatrice and Clyde Haley of Victoria and Bettye Lee and Walter Wilson of
Friendswood; and two grandchildren, Kimberly Haley and Kazzye Wilson. Funeral
service for Mrs. Lee B. Feuge will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at the
Fredericksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Altman officiating.
Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. For those who wish to honor
the memory of Mrs. Feuge by making a memorial, the family requests that they be
made to the Doss Volunteer Fire Department, Castell Volunteer Fire Department,
Hill Country Memorial Hospital, Golden Hub Senior Citizens Center or a charity
of one's choice. Visitation for Mrs. Lee B. Feuge will begin at 10:30 a.m.

			ELMER L. HARRIS

SULPHUR SPRINGS - Funeral service for Elmer L. Harris, 64, of Sulphur Springs
will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 1998, in West Oaks Funeral Chapel with
the Rev. Rick Dunn officiating. Interment will be in Sulphur Springs City
Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Ducante, Benny Byrd, Don Byrd, Walt Speer,
LaRoyce McDaniel and Bobby Matthews. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday, June 30, at West Oaks Funeral Home. Mr. Harris died at 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, June 28, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born
Feb. 14, 1934, in San Angelo, the son of Orville Fred and Ellen Odell Harris.
He was a graduate of Brady High School and moved to Sulphur Springs from Brady
in 1969. He was a retired tool crib employee of Nordstrom Valves and also was
employed in maintenance of Wal-Mart Supercenter. He was a member of the Cedar
Crest Christian Church. He married Ilene Byrd on Oct. 17, 1956, in San Angelo.
She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Steve Harris of Cedar Hill and
Scott Harris of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Cindy Clark of Como and Any Lynn
of Sulphur Springs; a brother, Fred Harris of San Angelo; three sisters, Inus
Underwood of Valera, Violet Harris of Brady and Betty Hughes of Boerne; and 14
grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to
Hopkins County Hospice, 525 Church St., Sulphur Springs, TX 75482. Arrangements
are by West Oaks Funeral Home.

			TERRY W. TILLMAN

SAN ANTONIO - Terry W. Tillman, chief master sergeant, USAF retired, passed
away June 23, 1998, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. After an
enlistment in the Army, Terry joined the Air Force in 1965. Among Terry's many
assignments were tours as an instructor at Goodfellow Air Force Base from 1969
to 1971 and 1972 to 1975. Terry was last assigned to the 6903rd Security
Squadron, Osan Air Base, Korea, from 1975 until he retired in 1987. He remained
in Korea after his USAF retirement and worked as a federal civil servant on
Osan Air Base until he was medically retired in 1998. He was active in VFW Post
10215, Song Ton City, Korea. Terry is survived by his wife, Sun Hai Tillman;
son, Hwa Ryong; sister, Sharon Starr of Mobile, Ala.; and four nephews, Ashler
English, Flynn English, Jay English and Shane English. Interment with full
military honors took place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio
on June 26.

		ELIZABETH FORSYTH SCHEUBER

Elizabeth Forsyth Scheuber, 83, of Mertzon died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at
Baptist Memorials Center. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday,
July 1, at Johnson's Funeral Home with the Rev. John Loving of Emmanuel
Episcopal Church officiating. Liz, as she was affectionately called, was born
Dec. 30, 1914, in Georgetown, Washington, D.C., to Capt. W.D. Forsyth and Epsey
Dockery Forsyth. Liz often referred to herself as ``The Colonel's Daughter.''
Her family lived in Fort Riley and Fort Leavenworth, Kan., until after World
War I. After her father received his rank of colonel, they were transferred to
Camp Marfa, Texas, in 1920. Col. Forsyth was then transferred to Fort Clark in
Brackettville in 1921. In 1995, a memorial plaque in honor of her father, Col.
W.D. Forsyth, was placed next to the Forsyth Bridge at Fort Clark Springs,
Brackettville. The family was then moved to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio,
where Liz attended St. Mary's Hall until she graduated in 1932. She attended
the University of Texas at Austin for three years, where she was Chi Omega,
captain of the tennis team and on the swimming team. Liz married Henry D.
``Hank'' Davis in September of 1935 and moved to Boston. Hank worked for Forte
Dupee Sawyer as a wool merchant, and later for J.P. Stevens before moving to
San Angelo. To this marriage were born two daughters, Jane and Elizabeth. The
couple bought a ranch in Rocksprings in 1953 and lived in San Angelo until his
death in 1962. Liz was very active in Girl Scouts during the years her
daughters were growing up. She was training chairman of the El Camino Council
and had a troop of her own for five years. She also worked as the Day Camp
chairman and helped establish several camps. Liz was an avid hunter and
fisherman. In 1955, she was the only woman to draw a permit to hunt bull elk in
New Mexico, and she killed a royal bull elk in the Pecos wilderness area in New
Mexico. Liz was married to Sam Scheuber from September 1963 until his death in
1993. They were active in the Mohair Council of America, Texas Sheep and Goat
Raisers Association, Cattle Raisers Association and the Native Plant Society.
She was named an honorary director for life in the TSGRA. She also was a
director of the Mohair Council for four years in Edwards County. In 1967, Liz
purchased a ranch in Mertzon known as Spring Creek Ranch. She remained very
active in ranching in Mertzon until September 1997. Liz was preceded in death
by two loving husbands, Hank Davis and Sam Scheuber, and a loving and cherished
daughter, Elizabeth Dennison Davis Rushing. She is survived by a daughter, Jane
Davis Murray; six loving grandchildren, Linda Hofacket of Mertzon, Shawn Honea
of Mertzon, Jonathan Murray of Big Lake, Christina Stradley of Alpine, Jason
Honea of Wichita Falls and Rachael Honea of Austin; eight great-grandchildren;
and a sister-in-law, Florence McClellan of San Angelo. Memorials may be sent to
Baptist Memorials Center or West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

			TOMMY T. NICHOLS JR.

AUSTIN - Tommy T. Nichols Jr., 60, of Jonestown passed away at 4:45 a.m.
Monday, June 29, 1998. Born on March 18, 1938, in Oklahoma City, he graduated
from San Angelo Lake View High School. He moved to South Jonestown Hills in
1973. Tom retired as a master plumber after serving the North Lake Travis area
residents for many years. He was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Stewart,
and his father, John Walden, both of San Angelo. Survivors include his wife,
Sandra Nichols of South Jonestown Hills; his mother, Marie Walden of San
Angelo; five children, Trey Nichols of Kansas, Shari Gillian of Irving, Debbie
Merriman of Austin, Ken A. Branum of South Jonestown Hills and Donna Goolsby of
Leander; 10 grandchildren; and one-great-granddaughter. Viewing will be from 10
a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8
p.m. in the Beck Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, July 1, in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at 4:30
p.m. in Belvedere Memorial Park in San Angelo.
