To Those I Love And Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go -

I have so many things to see and do.

You mustn't tie yourself to me in tears.

Be happy that we had these years.

I gave to you my love. You can only guess

How much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown,

But now it's time I traveled on alone.

So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must.

Then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It's only for a while that we must part,

So bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on.

So if you need me, call and I will come.

   Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near;

And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear

All my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone,

I'll greet you with a smile and ``Welcome Home.''

   God looked around his garden

   And found an empty space.

He then looked down upon this earth

   And saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you

   And lifted you to rest.

   God's garden must be beautiful;

   He only takes the best.

He knew that you were in pain.

He knew you would never get well

   Upon this earth again.

He saw the roads getting rough

And the hills harder to climb,

So he closed your weary eyes and

Whispered in your ear, ``Peace be thine.''

   It broke our hearts to lose you;

But you did not go alone.

For part of us went with you

The day God called you home.

   We'll meet you in Heaven.

We love you and miss you very much.

   Jon Bruce Coe

AUSTIN - Jon Bruce Coe, a beautiful man of great curiosity, abundant
love and good taste, set his spirit fee from a body that had become
heavy and weak from a year-long battle with lymphoma. He departed
while in the arms of his deeply caring spouse, Ed Pope, at their home
in Austin on Sunday evening, Feb. 9, 1997. Jon was 42.

Born on June 12, 1954, in Dallas, Jon had deep roots in Texas,
spending his childhood in Grand Prairie, Nacogdoches and San Angelo. A
graduate of the University of Texas at Austin in finance, Jon's
adulthood began and ended in Austin. During those 24 years, he engaged
in a spectacular adventure that broadened his interests, his
experience and his admiring circle of friends. In 1981, he moved to
New York City where he embarked on a methodical quest to become
financially secure and consume the abundance of culture and living so
unique to New York. Jon was always thrilled to share his love and
knowledge of NYC with countless friends and relatives who took the Coe
tour. Jon also fulfilled a great dream to live in Paris and tour
Europe extensively. Jon returned to Austin in 1987 to pursue graduate
studies in architecture at the University of Texas.

In many respects, Jon was the perennial student as he had a tremendous
desire for personal growth. He educated himself in the areas of human
relationships, art, architecture, HIV and lymphoma. Whether pursuing
his love for art or architecture or meeting the challenge posed to his
health by HIV and subsequently his struggle with cancer, Jon displayed
attention to detail and comprehension. Jon's family and friends
supported and benefited from his quest for personal and professional
   integrity.

A person of considerable charisma, Jon was adept at attracting and
cultivating a diverse circle of friends. He possessed a wry sense of
humor and had an adventurous spirit that endeared him to so many. His
sensitivity to the pain of family and friends was matched by his
desire to convey reconciliation, comfort and growth.

Jon appreciated the excellent care afforded him by both health care
professionals and his loved ones during the recent years.

Jon was preceded in death by his longtime companion in New York and
Paris, Brent Mason. Jon is survived by his treasured partner, Ed; his
mother, Nancy Newton and her husband, Norman; his father, Robert Coe
and his wife, Dot; his sister, Carolyn, and brother, Bill; as well as
numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Jon will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in the

Historic Preservation in the School of Architecture, The University of
Texas at Austin, Goldsmith Hall 2308, Austin, TX 78712-1160.

   God looked around his garden

   And found an empty space.

He then looked down upon this earth

   And saw your tired face.

He put his arms around you

   And lifted you to rest.

   God's garden must be beautiful;

   He only takes the best.

He knew that you were in pain.

He knew you would never get well

   Upon this earth again.

He saw the roads getting rough

And the hills harder to climb,

So he closed your weary eyes and

Whispered in your ear, ``Peace by thine.''

   It broke our hearts to lose you;

But you did not go alone.

For part of us went with you

The day God called you home.

   We'll meet you in Heaven.

We love you and miss you very much.

   To Those I Love

   And Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go

I have so many things to see and do.

You mustn't tie yourself to me in tears.

Be happy that we had these years.

I gave to you my love. You can only guess

How much you gave to me in happiness.

I thank you for the love you each have shown,

But now it's time I traveled on alone.

So grieve awhile for me if grieve you must.

Then let your grief be comforted by trust.

It's only for a while that we must part,

So bless the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away, for life goes on.

So if you need me, call and I will come.

   Though you can't see or touch me, I'll be near;

And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear

All my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you must come this way alone,

I'll greet you with a smile and ``Welcome Home.''
