   H.E. Schoenhals

   FOLLETT - H.E. Schoenhals, 81, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003.

   Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Follett United Methodist Church
   with Dan Carter. pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont
   Cemetery by Johnson's Good Samaritan Funeral Service of Booker.

   Mr. Schoenhals was born in Lipscomb County to George and Mollie
   (Fritzler) Schoenhals on Dec. 25, 1921. He attended school at the
   country school in Plains (which later transferred to Darrouzett) and
   also attended Follett public schools.

   He served in the Coast Guard Reserve in World War II. After his
   discharge, he returned to the family farm and married Erika (Ricky)
   Meier in 1945.

   H.E. Spent his entire life farming and ranching. He was a member of
   Follett Methodist Church and actively participated on various
   committees. He served on the board of directors of Lipscomb County
   Farm Bureau and Darrouzett Co-op Association. H.E. was named
   Outstanding Conservationist of Lipscomb County in 1990.

   He was preceded in death by his wife in 1994; his parents; and a
   sister, Katherine Mattison in 1950.

   Survivors include a son, Kendall and wife, Diane, of Follett; a
   daughter, Becky Keel and husband, Bob, of Amarillo; three brothers,
   George and wife, Fay, of Darrouzett, Bill and wife, Phyllis, of
   Meeker, Colo., and Sam and wife, Gail, of Ridgecrest, Colo.; three
   sisters, Helen Herbel of Valley Center, Kan., Esther Bruntz and
   husband, Sam, of Bazine, Kan., and Ruth Trew and husband, Delbert, of
   Alanreed; four grandchildren, Tina Bussard and husband, David, of
   Belton, Mo., Nicole Schoenhals of Kansas City, Mo., Erin Scherr and
   husband, Dustin, of Frisco and Ashley Schoenhals of Darrouzett; and
   two great-grandchildren, Alexander Bussard and Payton Schoenhals.

   Dorothy Berend

   HEREFORD - Dorothy Berend, 94, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003.

   Rosary services will be at 6:30 p.m. today in Parkside Chapel Funeral
   Home. Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Anthony's Catholic
   Church in Hereford with the Rev. Ed Sweeney officiating. Burial will
   be in St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Hereford.

   Mrs. Berend was born Dec. 9, 1908, in Westphalia, Iowa, the daughter
   of Frank and Anna Mages. She married Ewald Berend on Feb. 1, 1932, at
   St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lindsay. They lived in Gainesville
   until moving to Hereford in August 1958. Mrs. Berend was a homemaker
   and a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hereford.

   She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Mary Grewing
   and Cecilia Berend; and six brothers, Joe Mages, Al Mages, Lee Mages,
   Carl Mages, Tony Mages and Frank Mages, Jr.

   Survivors include a son, LeRoy Berend of Friona; two daughters, Marian
   Yosten and husband, Nick, of Hereford and Doris Zinser of Conway,
   Ark.; three sisters, Annie Fleitman and Betty Yosten, both of
   Muenster, and Jane Kinstley of Plaquemine, La.; a brother, Eddie Mages
   of Gainesville; 15 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

   Mrs. Klepper was born June 29, 1923, in Kirkland. She was a homemaker.

   Antonio; a brother, Fred Holland of Bryan; three sisters, Thelma

   FRITCH - Ted P. Townsend, 72, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, in Borger.

   God Church in Borger, officiating. Arrangements are by Brown Funeral
   Directors of Borger.

   Mr. Townsend was a veteran of the Navy. He was a retired storeroom
   clerk for Phillips Petroleum Co.

   Survivors include his wife, Doris; three sons, Don Townsend of Fritch,
   and David Townsend and Ed Townsend, both of Amarillo; a brother, Tim
   Arwood of San Jose, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

   D.A. Bass

   HART - D.A. Bass, 85, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

   Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First Baptist Church of
   Hart with Cliff Hargrove, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Hart
   Cemetery by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.

   Mr. Bass was born Jan. 9, 1918, in Shamrock. He went to school at Salt
   Flat School in Oklahoma. He married Nora Januice Worley on June 10,
   1939, in Sayre, Okla.

   He and his wife moved from Beckham County, Okla., to Sudan in February
   1946, to Hart in 1953 and then to Bonham in 1977. After they retired
   from farming and ranching, they moved back to Hart in 1992.

   Survivors include three daughters, Phillis Sharp and husband, Jim, of
   Lubbock, Janice Clark and husband, Ray, of Hart and Sharon Bostick of
   Oklahoma City; a sister, Viola Potts of Lubbock; four brothers, Harold
   Bass of Erick, Okla., Wayne Bass of Shamrock, Burt Bass of Borger and
   Dean Bass of Fritch; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

   BORGER - Addie McCall Duncan, infant daughter of Gregg and Donna
   Duncan, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, in Amarillo.

   She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Bob Salyer.

   Ruby Lasswell Bennett

   CLAUDE - Ruby Lasswell Bennett, 88, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003.

   Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with Garvin
   McCarrell, pastor of Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo, and the
   Rev. Kermit Sorrells, son-in-law of Mrs. Bennett, officiating. Burial
   will be in Claude Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors.

   Mrs. Bennett was born Feb. 17, 1915, in Tyrone, Okla., and had been an
   Armstrong County resident most of her adult life. She married John
   Forrest Bennett on March 25, 1936, in Claude.

   She was a member of Fairview Community Center Association and a
   longtime member of Claude Business Women, where she was formerly named
   Woman of the Year. She was active in 4-H and Armstrong County
   Demonstration Club.

   In the mid-1970s, she was named Citizen of the Year by Claude Lions
   Club. She was a longtime member of Claude First Christian Church.

   She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 10, 1991; four
   brothers; and four sisters.

   Survivors include a daughter, Sue Beth Sorrells and husband, Kermit of
   Coleman; four sons, Murray Bennett and wife, Betty, of Claude, Nathan
   Bennett and wife, Nancy, of Arlington, Gordon Bennett and wife, Ruby,
   of Farmington, N.M., and Richard Bennett and wife, Phyllis, of
   Stinnett; 14 grandchildren, Sherri Pernell, Kevin Bennett, Betsy
   Weaver, Russell Bennett, Natalie Bennett, Lori Newsome, Connie
   Bennett, Catrina Jensen, Christy Bennett, J.C. Bennett, Richard
   Bennett, Sandra Green, Philip Sorrells and David Sorrells; 21
   great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and
   nephews.

   Casket bearers will be her grandsons.

   Helen Purdy Maxey

   PAMPA - Helen Purdy Maxey, 82, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003.

   Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in First Christian Church
   with the Rev. Barry Loving, pastor, officiating. Private burial will
   be in Fairview Cemetery by Carmicahel-Whatley Funeral Directors.

   Mrs. Maxey was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Breckenridge, and was a graduate
   of Pampa High School. She married Glenn Maxey on Feb. 10, 1943, in
   Columbia, S.C. She was a Pampa resident most of her life.

   She was a member of First Christian Church for more than 50 years,
   where she served as a Sunday school teacher and elder. Matthew 25:21
   truly applies to Helen Maxey. She gave of herself unselfishly for her
   family and friends, putting their needs before hers. "Well done good
   and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things. I will make
   you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord."

   She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 25, 1990.

   Survivors include a son, Rick Maxey and wife, Mary, of Corpus Christi;
   two daughters, Sue Atkinson and Joan Hasenauer and husband, Leonard,
   all of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Jarrett Atkinson, Grant Atkinson,
   Julie Seemann, Mandy Maxey, Eren Johnson and Linsey Johnson; and nine
   great-grandchildren.

   Jeannean Thompson

   BORGER - Jeannean Thompson, 73, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003.

   Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of
   the Fountains with Richard Kasko, minister of Fritch Church of Christ,
   officiating.

   Mrs. Thompson began her life on Nov. 8, 1930, in Vernon as Jeannean
   Johanson, where she spent her early years attending Lutheran school
   with her sisters. She moved to Borger in 1943 with her family and
   attended Borger High School.

   She married Sam Thompson on March 18, 1955. Their early married years
   were spent in Dallas, where they bought their first home and began
   their family. In 1959 Jeannean and Sam moved to Borger.

   During her lifetime, Jeannean was a seamstress, a real estate agent
   and owner of a fabric shop in Megert Shopping Center. She was owner
   and manager for 32 years of the H&R Block Tax office in Borger, where
   she worked as a tax preparer. Many of her clients became her friends
   and even those who moved away still returned to Borger each year to
   have Jeannean complete their tax returns.

   Jeannean was an avid gardener, known in Borger for her beautiful rose
   garden and flower beds. She loved cooking and canning and through the
   years had won many blue ribbons at the Tri-State Fair. Her cooking
   talents were known throughout the Panhandle because she had won awards
   in numerous cooking and baking contests.

   She also loved needlework. During winters when she couldn't work in
   her garden, she crocheted, cross-stitched and quilted many beautiful
   things for her children and grandchildren. This year she entered two
   crocheted dolls as well as a pieced and hand quilted angel quilt in
   the Tri-State Fair and won Best of Division ribbons.

   She was a lover of animals and through the years had nursed many sick
   kittens and baby birds back to health. She had a gentle touch with all
   she loved and even when she was angry, her eyes still said "I Love
   You."

   She was always there, encouraging and supporting, pushing her children
   and grandchildren to be all they could be. She was a devoted wife,
   mother and grandmother and will be sorely missed.

   Survivors include her husband; five children, Charlotte Breen of
   Austin, Steven Thompson of Georgetown, Gregory Thompson and wife,
   Michele, of Borger, Shannon Thompson of Tiawah, Okla., and Tara
   Thompson of Garland; two brothers, Jon Johanson of Brandon, Miss., and
   Joseph Johanson of Jonesboro, Ark.; two sisters, Carol Strole and Kay
   Herman, both of Moses Lake, Wash.; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Ellis
   of Alexandria, Va., Marc Breen of El Paso, Kimberlea Breen of Chicago,
   Patrick Breen of Austin, Zack Thompson of Georgetown, Jessica Thompson
   of Denton, and Eric Thompson and Rachel Thompson, both of Borger; and
   numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

   PERRYTON - Elmer D. Bechthold, 72, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003.

   Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Fellowship Baptist Church with the
   Rev. John Durham officiating. Burial will be in Ochiltree Cemetery by
   Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home.

   Mr. Bechthold was born Feb. 28, 1931, in Lipscomb County and was a
   lifetime resident. He graduated from Booker High School in 1949. He
   graduated from West Texas State College with a bachelor's of business
   administration in 1953 and a master's in business administration in
   1954.

   He married Darlene C. Burditt on Oct. 24, 1987, in Fort Collins, Colo.
   He was a CPA and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a
   loving father and kind, loving husband.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian H. and Marie M.
   Kershman Bechthold; a son, James R. Bechthold; and a sister, Doris E.
   Born.

   Survivors include his wife of Fort Collins; a son, Jeff Bechthold of
   Perryton; two brothers, Ernest L. Bechthold and Paul H. Bechthold,
   both of Booker; a sister, Louise M. Brown of Boise City, Okla.; three
   stepdaughters, Debra Givens of Wichita, Kan., Beverly Lawrence of Fort
   Collins and Barbara Murrow of Eaton, Colo.; a grandson, Jordan C.
   Bechthold of Perryton; and a granddaughter, Jill A. Bechthold of
   Perryton.

   Mrs. White was born April 23, 1939, in Cripple Creek, Colo. She

   Charles "C.D." Baldwin, 67, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003.

   Mr. Baldwin was born in Geary, Okla., on Feb. 12, 1936. He married
   Barbara Barr Rockhold on Oct. 10, 1980, in Amarillo.

   Mr. Baldwin owned Baldwin Trucking in Amarillo and Diamond B Ranch in
   Foster, Okla. He was a member of Texas Trucking Association and Sand
   and Gravel Carriers Association.

   Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dudley Baldwin and wife,
   Kathy, and Darrell Baldwin and wife, Judy, all of Amarillo, and
   Darrell Rockhold Jr. and fiancee, Penny Brooks, of Foster, Okla.; two
   daughters, Nancy Baldwin and husband, Gary Valasquez, of Mesa, Ariz.,
   and Darlene Seago and husband, Rodney, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a

   Robert "Bob" Jones, 75, of Amarillo died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

   Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount
   Blvd.

   Mr. Jones was born in Tulsa, Okla. He worked in sales. He was a
   longtime member of Pathfinders Sunday School class at St. Stephen
   United Methodist Church.

   He was preceded in death by his wife, Donice Jones on April 24, 2003.

   Survivors include two sons, Brad Jones and wife, Shannon, of Long
   Beach, Calif., and the Rev. Rich Jones of Amarillo; two sisters,
   Dorothy Burrus of Arlington and Esther Ham of Perkins, Okla.; and a
   grandson, Andrey Jones of Long Beach.

   Dorothy Ann Kinney

   Dorothy Ann Kinney, 83, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003.

   Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Llano Cemetery with
   Dr. Jim Bankhead officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by
   Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

   Mrs. Kinney was born in Amarillo on March 13, 1920. She attended
   University of Texas Plan II and graduated from University of Texas
   School of Law in 1943, one of four female graduates that year.

   During her law school tenure, she worked for the Texas Legislature and
   then worked for the general counsel of the U.S. Treasury in
   Washington, D.C., after graduation.

   Upon her return to Amarillo, she began private practice as an estate
   tax attorney and became an officer of the Amarillo Bar Association
   during her second year of practice. Mrs. Kinney practiced law
   continuously for 58 years.

   An avid volunteer, Dorothy Kinney served on the boards of United Way,
   Art Center, YWCA, Junior League and Epilepsy Foundation. She was
   elected the first female president of the Amarillo Symphony.

   She also served two terms as president and was a board member of
   Maverick Boys Club for more than 25 years. While on that board she
   worked to make the Maverick Club a center for both boys and girls. She
   married Sterling E. Kinney, who preceded her in death in 1999.

   Survivors include three daughters, Ann Miranda, Leslie Nimmo and Julie
   K. Attebury, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren; three
   great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bill Adams and Charles Adams.

   Johnnie Maxine Howard Rains, 75, of Amarillo died Monday, Dec. 1,
   2003.

   Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount
   Blvd.

   Mrs. Rains was born April 13, 1928, to John and Blanche Wansley. After
   the death of her husband, Bill Joe, in 1968, she worked as a sales
   associate for Colbert's, Blackburn's and most recently, Dunlaps. You
   could always find her by her warm smile.

   Maxine spent the last year of her life with the "Angels" at Heritage
   Convalescent Center. She will always be remembered as the mother who
   gave her all and never expected anything in return.

   Survivors include two sons, Jay Howard and wife, Becky, of Amarillo
   and Bill Joe Howard of Los Angeles; a daughter-in-law, Lindsay Howard
   of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Niki Westenburg and husband, Chad,
   and Jalee, Justin and Joshua; a brother, Winifred Wansley and wife,
   Nancy, of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews.

   BEAVER, Okla. - Mary Lou Warkentin, 75, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003.

   Mrs. Warkentin was born Jan. 21, 1928, to Elza and Elsie Hoover. She
   was a member of the United Methodist Church.

   Mission Viejo, Calif., and Keith Warkentin of Okmulgee; two brothers,
   Elsworth Hoover of Meade, Kan., and Roy Hoover of Oklahoma City; five

   Mrs. Thompson was born Aug. 25, 1912, in Carter. She married Ira Otta

   Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. in Smyrna Cemetery in Smyrna, Ark., by
   Texarkana Funeral Home.

   Mr. Spradlin was born Dec. 12, 1932, in Clark County, Ark. He was a
   former police chief in Amarillo.

   Survivors include his wife, Ilena Riley; a son, Steve Spradlin of

   Elizabeth Mae Regan

   INVERNESS, Fla. - Elizabeth Mae Regan, 82, died Saturday, Nov. 29,
   2003, in Amarillo, Texas.

   Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Chas E. Davis Funeral Home of
   Inverness with the Rev. Charles Leke officiating. Burial will be at a
   later date in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

   Mrs. Regan was born in Jersey City, N.J., on Aug. 11, 1921, to the
   late Fred and Margaret Kruger Nelson. She came to Inverness in 1976
   from Keyport, N.J., and moved to Amarillo in May. Mrs. Regan retired
   from General Motors Corp. as an inspector in the roller bearing
   division with more than 20 years of service. She was a member of
   Eagles Aerie No. 3922 and VFW Ladies Auxiliary, both of Inverness.
   Mrs. Regan was of the Catholic faith.

   She was preceded in death by her husband, James Regan on July 17,
   1997.

   Survivors include two sons, James F. Regan of Amarillo and Frank J.
   Regan of Leander, Texas; four daughters, Elizabeth Finnen and Lillian
   Davis, both of Manahawkin, N.J., Carol Phillips of Hudson, and Renee
   Rosenberger of Inverness; a brother, Steve Nelson of Jersey City; a
   sister, Helen Costantino of Bayonne, N.J.; 22 grandchildren; and 13
   great-grandchildren.

   The family suggests memorials be to Alzheimer's Association in your
   local community.
