Earl Brady
Earl Brady, 74, of Amarillo, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Brentwood Chapel, Schooler
Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St., with the Rev. Larry Mills
officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.
Mr. Brady was born in Amarillo. During World War II he served in the
Navy. He was employed as a shop foreman by Amarillo Gear Co. until
retirement in 1986. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans
and a member of Good Sam Trailer Club and Thousand Trails.
He married Ruth Mae Hensley in 1943 at New Orleans.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David Brady of Red River, N.M.; two
daughters, Carole Kirkwood of Amarillo and Susan Mills of Lubbock;
three brothers, Bill Brady of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Ray Brady and Bob
Brady, both of Amarillo; a sister, Marie Glovier of Amarillo; and four
grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity.
Roger Reynaldo Lucero
Roger Reynaldo Lucero, 34, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral
Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mass will
be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
Church by Deacon Hector Gallegos. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.
Mr. Lucero was born in Vega. He worked in construction as a welder. He
was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mykal Lucero of Amarillo; his parents,
Margarito and Josie Lucero of Amarillo; four sisters, Corine Lucero,
Connie Mendez and Patsy Lucero, all of Amarillo, and Melissa Reyes of
Roswell, N.M.; and six brothers, Margarito Lucero, Jr., Pete Lucero,
John Lucero, Chris Lucero, Ben Lucero and Lawrence Lucero, all of
Amarillo.
The family will be at 609 S. Mississippi St.
Ronald A. Ingram
Ronald A. Ingram, 74, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Llano East Cemetery
with the Rev. Dean Wynn of St. Stephen United Methodist Church
officiating. Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors,
2615 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Ingram was born in Coles County, Ill. He moved to Texas in 1927,
graduating from Borger High School. He attended Texas Tech University.
In 1986 he retired from Southwestern Public Service Co. after 40 years
of service. He was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church.
He married Marie Davenport in 1958. She died in 1996.
Survivors include five sisters, Treva Chivers of Lake Wales, Fla.,
Nina Cox and Thyra "Chic" Littrell, both of Amarillo, Bernice Goodlett
of Pampa and Patricia Payton of Gentry, Ark.; and a brother, Richard
Ingram of Richardson.
The family requests memorials be to a favorite charity.
Pauline Cox
Pauline Cox, 79, of Amarillo, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral
Directors, Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road, with Dr. David G.
Goad, chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.
Mrs. Cox was born in Wichita Falls. She lived in Amarillo most of her
life. She received a Licensed Vocational Nurse degree from Amarillo
College. She was a homemaker and a retired nurse.
She married Elbert Cox in 1959 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1997.
Survivors include two sons, John C. Martin and Jerry D. Martin, both
of Amarillo; a brother, Denzel Castle of Palm Desert, Calif.; two
sisters, Onie Martinez of Amarillo and Madalar Green of San Diego,
Calif.; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Robert O. Johnston
CLAYTON, N.M. - Robert O. Johnston, 72, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First United Methodist Church
with the Rev. Andy Husted, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in
Clayton Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton.
Mr. Johnston was born in Clayton where he was a lifelong resident. He
graduated from Clayton High School. He was a member and past master of
the Clayton Masonic Lodge No. 23 AF&AM, member and past patron of the
Clayton Chapter No. 8 Eastern Star and a member of First United
Methodist Church.
He married Dora Mae Green in 1944 at Clayton. She preceded him in
death in 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Robert R. Johnston of Albuquerque and John
F. Johnston of Springer; a sister, Clara Ellen Blasyk of Albuquerque;
a brother, Stanley W. Johnston of Carlsbad; six grandchildren; and
five great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials be to American Lung Association of New
Mexico, 216 Truman, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108.
Barbarita Juanita Blea
CLAYTON, N.M. - Barbarita Juanita Blea, 69, died Saturday, Aug. 29,
1998.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in St. Francis Xavier Catholic
Church. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Francis
Xavier by the Rev. George Silva, pastor. Burial will be in Clayton
Memorial Cemetery by Hass Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Blea was born in Pasamonte. She was a lifelong resident of Union
County. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Anaya of Amarillo; her mother and
stepfather, Selia and Eloy Cardenas of Muleshoe, Texas; two sisters,
Gasparita Martinez of Lyons, Kan., and Andrita Salas of Muleshoe; two
half-sisters, Geneva Archuleta of Security, Colo., and Mary Blea of
Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a half-brother, George Blea of Clayton.

Ruby Whelchel
PAMPA - Ruby Whelchel, 89, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Fairview Cemetery with
the Rev. Clint Henry, pastor of Cherry Lane Baptist Church in
Meridian, Idaho, officiating. Arrangements are by CarmichaelWhatley
Funeral Directors of Pampa.
Mrs. Whelchel was born in Childress, where she graduated from high
school. In 1929 she moved to Pampa. She was a homemaker. She was a
member of First Baptist Church in Pampa for 62 years and a member of
the Anna Sunday School Class.
She married John Whelchel in 1926 at Quanah.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Henry of Pampa and Sandra Brown
of Plano; a sister, Belauh Wood of Brenham; and four grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be to American Cancer Society or to
Hospice of the Panhandle, Box 2795, Pampa, TX 79066-2795.
Loyce Landers Murray
McLEAN - Loyce Landers Murray, 77, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church
of McLean with the Rev. Thacker Haynes officiating. Burial will be in
Hillcrest Cemetery by Lamb Funeral Home.
Mrs. Murray was a McLean resident for 12 years. For more than 30 years
she was employed as an elementary school teacher.
She married Delbert Murray in 1940 at Raton, N.M.
Survivors include two sons, Bart Murray of Baker City, Ore., and
Rogers Murray of Boring, Ore.; a sister, Jean Landers Kuhlman of Cygh
Valley, Ore.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home. They suggest memorials be to the Methodist Church of
McLean, Pampa Hospice or Habitat for Humanity.
Ina Welty Barton
HIGGINS - Ina Welty Barton, 74, died Friday, Aug. 28, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memory Gardens
Cemetery in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Mason Funeral Home of
Shattuck, Okla.
Mrs. Barton was born in Freedom, Okla. She attended Northwestern State
College at Alva, Okla., where she majored in business. She was a
housewife. She and her husband lived in Higgins for many years.
She married Clifford E. Barton in 1974 at Arnett, Okla. He died in
1995.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Max Johnson of Augusta, Kan., and
Charlie Johnson of Amarillo; a daughter, Karen Dakin of Wichita, Kan.;
a stepdaughter, Johanna Mae Ashley of Canadian; and a sister, Tennyson
Bland of Lawrence, Kan.
Lt. Col. (Ret.) Joe D. Rogers
WHEELER - Lt. Col. (Ret.) Joe D. Rogers, 76, died Sunday, Aug. 30,
1998.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in First United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Rob Lindley, pastor, and Judge Grainger McIlhaney
officiating. Burial will be in Wheeler Cemetery with a military honor
guard provided by Altus Air Force Base. Arrangements are by Wright
Funeral Home.
Mr. Rogers was born in Flagstaff, Ariz. He attended school in Vigo
Park and graduated from Tulia High School in 1939. In 1940 he joined
the Army Air Corps, serving six years in Europe.
A C-47 pilot, Mr. Rogers flew with the 82nd and 101st Airborne
Divisions. He was awarded three Bronze Battle Stars, seven Air Medals,
a Pre-Pearl Harbor Medal and seven Presidential Unit Citations. He was
a Caterpillar Club member. After discharge from active duty, he
remained in the Air Force Reserves, retiring in 1981 after 41 years of
service.
In 1948 Mr. Rogers moved from Amarillo to Wheeler, where he was
employed by Nash Appliance for four years and by the First National
Bank for 25 years. He served for 10 years as bailiff for Judge
McIlhaney with the 31st District Court. He was Wheeler County
Democratic Chairman for 10 years. For 24 years he served with the
Wheeler Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of First United
Methodist Church.
He married Vera M. McNeil in 1942 at Austin. He was preceded in death
by a son, Neil Weston Rogers, in 1979.
Survivors include his wife; twin sons, Dean Rogers of St. Paul, Minn.,
and Dale Rogers of Thomas, Okla.; a daughter, Jo Rita Henard of
Wellington; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
The family requests memorials be to Wheeler Volunteer Fire Department
or Wheeler Ambulance Service.
Patricia Orozco
MULESHOE - Patricia Orozco, 98, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Immaculate Conception
Catholic Church by the Rev. Richardo Salditos, pastor of St. Ann's
Catholic Church of Morton. Burial will be in Bailey County Cemetery.
Mrs. Orozco was born in Salamanca, GTO, Mexico. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Socieda de Gaudalupanas, Cursillita and Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church.
Her husband, Narisco Orozco, died in 1963. She also was preceded in
death by a son, Esteven Orozco, in 1967, and a daughter, Conception
Estrada, in 1992.
Survivors include five sons, Luciano Orozco, J. Dolores Orozco, J.
Severo Orozco, Josemaria Orozco and Roberto Orozco; 37 grandchildren;
63 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be to Muleshoe Area Healthcare Center,
Muleshoe, TX 79347.
James S. Wilhite
FOLLETT - James S. "Jake" Wilhite, 79, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998,
in Shreveport, La.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Follett Chapel with
Pastor Roland Haney officiating. Burial will be in Fairmont Cemetery
by Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck, Okla.
Mr. Wilhite was born in Lipscomb County, where he attended a rural
country school. He and his wife had lived on the Wilhite family farm
from 1943 until 1947, when they moved to town.
Mr. Wilhite had worked as a farmer, a service station operator, a
propane dealer and for several years was employed by Permian Oil Co.,
from which he retired.
He married Alberdine Faye Huffman in 1943 at Wellington, Kan. She died
in 1995. He also was preceded in death by a son, Robert Leon Wilhite.
Survivors include a son, Steve Wilhite of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister,
Josephine Jones of Denver; three grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
