Betty Jean Wright
Betty Jean Wright, 71, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Park Funeral Home,
Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with Rex Dowling
officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Wright was born in Childress. She moved to Amarillo in 1971 from
Lubbock. She was a homemaker.
She married Paul Edwin Wright in 1969 at Lubbock. She was preceded in
death by her husband earlier this month and by a son, John Thomas
Shanahan, in 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Darron Wright of Amarillo and Ronald
Wright of Plainview; three daughters, Darenda Adams of Amarillo, Lois
Kinsey of Big Spring and Paulette Humphries of Arvada, Colo.; five
brothers, Francis Simmons and Harold Simmons, both of Childress, Ollie
Simmons of Memphis, T.B. Simmons of Lubbock and Virgil Simmons of
Shallowater; five sisters, Maudine Wright and Jackie Thompson, both of
Amarillo, Leta Seal of Childress, Sue Luman of Milnesand, N.M., and
Glenda Stowe of Jamul, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be to the American Diabetes Association.
Thelma Griffin
Thelma Griffin, 75, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral
Directors, Pioneer Chapel, 2615 Paramount Blvd., with the Rev. Judd
Wilhite of Paramount Terrace Christian Church officiating. Burial will
be in Llano Cemetery.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Kennett, Mo., and moved to Amarillo in 1946.
She retired as a cook for various nursing homes in Amarillo and
Amarillo Air Force Base.
She married Amon Griffin in 1940 at Oklahoma. She was preceded in
death by her husband in 1995 and by a daughter, Brenda Griffin, in
1969.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Ray of Amarillo; two sisters,
Pauline Knox of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Mary Lee Hodges of Anderson,
Calif.; and three grandchildren.
The family will be at 6802 Cloud Crest. They suggest memorials be to
Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center.
Vivian Roberta Penry
Vivian Roberta Penry, 83, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Llano Cemetery with
Dr. James E. Garrett, senior pastor at Polk Street United Methodist
Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral
Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle.
Mrs. Penry was born in Clarendon and was a longtime Amarillo resident.
She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1931 and attended Amarillo
College in 1932. She and her husband were owners of Penry Jewelry
Store for 35 years until their retirement.
Mrs. Penry won numerous awards worldwide for her photography. She was
a member of Amarillo Photography Society, the Photographic Society of
America and the Amarillo Club. She was a member of Polk Street United
Methodist Church and the Susanna Wesley Sunday School Class.
She married Earl C. Penry in 1938.
She is survived by her husband and two nieces.
The family requests memorials be to Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, Box

Curtis Royal Johnson
Curtis Royal Johnson, 83, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Sept, 17, 1998.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral
Directors, Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle. Burial will be in Llano
Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born in Coryell County and had been an Amarillo
resident for 50 years. He retired as business manager for Plumbers and
Steamfitters Union Local 136 where he also was a member. He was a
charter member of Tascosa Country Club, founder and board member of
Texas Pipe Trades Health Benefits Fund and member of Potter-Randall
Democratic Club.
He married Lois Monroe in 1945 at Amarillo.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Priscilla Looten of Quito,
Ecuador; a sister, Elizabeth Willoughby of Amarillo; two brothers,
George Truett Johnson and J.R. Johnson, both of Amarillo; and three
grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be to Alzheimer's Disease and Related
Disorders, 2200 W. Seventh, Amarillo, TX 79106; Amarillo Senior
Citizens Association, P.O. Box 31180, Amarillo, TX 79120; or a
favorite charity.
Canyon
Frances Bales Raymond
Frances Bales Raymond, 80, a former Canyon and Tulia resident, died
Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, at Eugene, Ore.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First United
Methodist Church of Canyon with the Rev. Richard Bales, the Rev. Kevin
Deckard and Curtis House, youth minister, officiating. Arrangements
are by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.
Mrs. Raymond was born in Clovis, N.M. She lived in Canyon for five
years and in Tulia for 36 years before returning to Clovis and later
moving to Eugene. She had been a legal secretary more than 25 years.
She was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Association
and of United Presbyterian Church in Tulia.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Wood of Eugene and Judith Groce
of Renton, Wash.; a son, Richard Bales of Canyon; a brother, Charles
Arnspiger of Ignacio, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.
Charlie Ann Bernard
Charlie Ann Bernard, 76, of Canyon, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel
with Dr. Charles Price, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Bernard was born in Wilbarger County. She attended school at
Farmers Valley and graduated from Vernon High School. She was a
Baptist.
She married Stanley Bernard in 1947 at Clovis, N.M. He died in 1989.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Neal of Valley View and Wall Bernard
of Clovis; a daughter, Lois Finke of Sanger; two sisters, Sis
McAlister of Clovis and Estelline Duckworth of Chillicothe; a brother,
Bill Owensby of Mesquite; six grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
New Mexico
Daniel R. Lopez
CLOVIS, N.M - Daniel R. Lopez, 48, died Tuesday, Sept. 15, 1998.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in The Chapel, 1500 Thornton.
Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Guadalupe
Catholic Community by the Rev. Daniel M. Balizan. Burial will be in
Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens by Muffley Funeral Home.
Mr. Lopez was born in Clovis and moved to California where he lived
most of his life. He returned to Clovis in 1991. He worked as a form
setter in the concrete business for 20 years.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony Lopez of Clovis and Jason Lopez of
Colorado Springs, Colo.; his mother and stepfather, Paula and Peter
Rodriquez of Clovis; and three grandchildren.

Henry Faske Jr.
CROWELL - Henry Faske Jr., 58, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Zion Lutheran Church with
Kenneth Bersche, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Crowell
Cemetery by Womack-Manard Funeral Home.
Mr. Faske was born in Vernon and a lifelong resident of Foard County.
He was a 1959 graduate of Crowell High School. A farmer and cattleman,
he was a past member of the Crowell School Board, served as coach for
the Crowell Little Dribblers and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church
in Lockett.
Mr. Faske and his wife were recognized as "Parents of the Year" in
1986 by West Texas State University. He also served in the National
Guard.
He married Judy Little in 1964 at Lockett. He was preceded in death by
a daughter, Felicia Faske, in 1972.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gerry Faske of Amarillo; four
sisters, Evelyn Mann of Thorndale, Clara Smith of Luling, Margaret
Brown of Abilene and Anna Marie Clifton of Childress; and two
grandchildren.
Hazel Ruth King
ELECTRA - Hazel Ruth King, 84, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church with the
Rev. John Klappenbach, pastor, and the Rev. Jim Belcher Jr., minister
from Abilene and nephew, officiating. Burial will be in Wilbarger
Memorial Park in Vernon by Dutton Funeral Home of Electra.
Mrs. King was born in Odell and had lived in Electra for 41 years. She
was a previous resident of Vernon where she graduated from high school
in 1931. In 1947, she graduated from Harris College of Nursing at
Texas Christian University.
During World War II, Mrs. King was a nurse in the Cadet Corps. A
registered nurse for 50 years, she worked in training union depots and
was coordinator of nurseries. She retired from Electra Memorial
Hospital. She was a member of the living donor bank and a volunteer at
the blood bank.
Mrs. King was a member of Shriners Auxiliary and Veterans of Foreign
Wars Auxiliary. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Electra
where she taught Sunday School.
She married Cecil King in 1947 at Torrence, Calif. She was preceded in
death by her son, Jerry King, in 1979.
She is survived by her husband; and a brother, Jim Belcher Sr., of
Wichita Falls.
Katie Winter
LITTLEFIELD - Katie Winter, 80, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Littlefield Memorial
Park Cemetery with the Rev. Royce Jennings of Littlefield officiating.
Arrangements are by Hammons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Winter was born in Hollis, Okla. She was a bank teller and member
of the Church of Christ in Littlefield. She was active in the bridge
club for many years.
She married Travis A. Winter in 1937 at Fort Worth. He preceded her in
death in 1997.
Survivors include two brothers, Burl Carey of Levelland and Dennis
Carey of Ariel, Wash.; and a sister, Euna Foust of Amarillo.
The family will greet friends from 6 until 7 p.m. today at Hammons
Funeral Home.

Ed Musick
DUMAS - Ed Musick, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Morrison Funeral Directors
Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Scott Willingham, pastor of First
Baptist Church in Dumas, and the Rev. H.L. Stevens, retired Assembly
of God minister of Dumas, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas
Cemetery.
Mr. Musick was born in Swartz, La., and had been a Dumas resident
since 1939. He was an Army veteran of World War II. In 1982, he
retired after 35 years as a shift operator at Continental Carbon of
Dumas.
Mr. Musick was a member of First Baptist Church. He also was a member
of the American Legion Post No. 224.
He married Jerry Frazier in 1942 at Moore County.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Musick of Dumas; a daughter,
Becky Saxton of Tucumcari, N.M.; two grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 1113 Durrett in Dumas. They suggest memorials be
to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 617, Dumas, TX 79029; or the
American Cancer Society, 211 Zauk, Dumas, TX 79029.
Enid Robson Townsend
CHILDRESS - Enid Robson Townsend, 92, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Childress Cemetery with
Bill Sager of Childress officiating. Arrangements are by Johnson
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Townsend was born in Blythe, England and graduated from Orleans
Parish High School in 1925. During World War II, she was head of the
Red Cross. She was honored by President Harry Truman and the American
Red Cross for meritorious personal service performed on behalf of the
nation, armed forces and suffering humanity in the war.
Mrs. Townsend was credited for leading the drive to bring Greenbelt
water to Childress. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of
Childress and active in various bridge clubs. She was a homemaker.
She married Dr. S.H. Townsend in 1927 at New Orleans. He preceded her
in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Townsend of Lubbock; a son,
John Galen Townsend of Las Cruces, N.M.; a brother, Jack E. Robson of
Burlington, Ontario; and three grandchildren.
Francis Villarreal
MORTON - Francis Villarreal, 83, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today in St. Ann's Catholic
Church of Morton with the Rev. Ricardo Saldito, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Morton Memorial Cemetery by Ellis Funeral Home of
Morton.
Mrs. Villarreal was born in LaColorada. She moved to the Morton
Community in 1958 from Christine. She was a homemaker and member of
St. Ann's Catholic Church.
She married Santos Villarreal in 1945 at Christine.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Joe, David and Juan
Villarreal, all of Morton; four daughters, Mary Ornelas of Sudan, and
Yolanda Aranda, Sylvia Olguin and Lupe Oropeza, all of Morton; two
sisters, Gregoria DeLeon and Cleofas Cordova, both of Charlotte; 25
grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Ella Ruth Hawkins
FRITCH - Ella Ruth Hawkins, 72, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church
with Dr. David Jones, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn
Cemetery by Brown Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Hawkins was a native of Harmon, Okla., and had been a Fritch
resident for 42 years. She was a homemaker and member of the First
United Methodist Church in Borger.
She married Oran Hawkins in 1946 at Woodward, Okla. She was preceded
in death by a daughter, Brenda Kay Hawkins, in 1983.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Darrell Hawkins of Amarillo;
three daughters, Sharol Thornburg of Garden City, Kan., Deanna Elliott
of Amarillo and Kim Tossman of Columbia, Md.; a brother, Forrest
Watkins of Quinlan, Okla.; three sisters, Mary Brown and Evelyn
Thompson, both of Oklahoma City, and Lulu Mae Fark of Owasso, Okla.;
nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Nancy Irene Akemon
WELLINGTON - Nancy Irene Akemon, 58, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in North Fairview Cemetery
in Wellington with the Rev. Tom Lewis, pastor of Fundamental Baptist
Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Directors of
Shamrock.
Mrs. Akemon was born in Scotts Bluff, Neb. She lived in Wellington
from 1979 until February when she moved to Pampa.
She married Ray Akemon in 1965 at Wichita Falls. He preceded her in
death in 1988.
Survivors include a son, Garrett Akemon of Wellington; three
daughters, Lola Burrows of Pampa, and Holly Hernandez and Kallie
Akemon, both of Wellington; a brother, Robert Allen Leisure of Acampo,
Calif.; and seven grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be to Crown of Texas Hospice.
Alfred Dutton
OLTON - Alfred Dutton, 85, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Anson
with the Rev. Bobby Broyles, pastor of First Baptist Church of Earth,
officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson.
Arrangements are by Parsons-Ellis Funeral Home.
Mr. Dutton was born in Hamlin. He moved to Earth community from Jones
County in 1955. He moved to Port Aransas in 1975 then moved to Olton
in 1995. He was a farmer and a member of the Port Aransas Baptist
Church.
He married Celeste Agnew in 1933 at Jones County. He was preceded in
death by a daughter, Lynda Karen, in 1981.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Bryan Dutton of Earth; three
sisters, Marie Key of Anson, Eunice Burton of Kress and Florence
Carpenter of Lubbock; a brother, Woodrow Dutton of Hereford; five
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday in the Anson
First Baptist Church.

Ethel Davis Anderson
WILDORADO - Ethel Davis Anderson, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Palo Duro Cemetery in
Wildorado with Dr. James E. Garrett, senior pastor of Polk Street
United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Vega Funeral
Home, 110 S. Main.
Mrs. Anderson was born in St. Clair, Mo., and had lived in Wildorado
on and off for 70 years. She retired from the Wildorado Independent
School District after 16 years as tax assessor/collector. For 40
years, she served as pianist for the Wildorado United Methodist Church
and was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star.
In 1996, Mrs. Anderson and her husband were inducted into the Route 66
Hall of Fame. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church.
She married J.D. Anderson in 1933 at Tucumcari, N.M. He preceded her
in death in 1997.
Survivors include a son, Jim Anderson of Whitesboro; two daughters,
Jen Carter and Beth Heatherly, both of Wildorado; 10 grandchildren;
and 19 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the Jen Carter or Beth Heatherly home. They
suggest memorials be to Wildorado Senior Citizens, Palo Duro Cemetery
or Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center, P.O. Box
950, Amarillo, TX 79126-0001.
The body will be available for viewing from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. today
and from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday at the funeral home.
Thelma Love
TULIA - Thelma Love, 92, died Wednesday, Sept. 16, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Central Church of Christ of
Tulia with Trey Morgan, minister, officiating. Burial will be in Rose
Hill Cemetery by Wallace Funeral Home.
Mrs. Love was born in Vernon and moved to Tulia at an early age. She
graduated from Tulia High School in 1921. She was a homemaker and
member of the Central Church of Christ. For the past four years, she
lived in Lubbock.
She married George A. Love in 1927 at Tulia. He died in 1965. She
married Louis Love in 1969 at Tulia. He preceded her in death in 1997.
Survivors include four sons, Bill Love of Odessa, Doyle Love of
Lubbock, Deryl Love of Albuquerque, N.M., and Audrey Love of Grand
Prairie; a sister, Marie Cammack of Belton; 17 grandchildren; and 31
great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
The family requests memorials be to Lubbock and Portales N.M.,
Children's Homes.
Bob Dean Lane
LOCKNEY - Bob Dean Lane, 66, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 1998.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today in Lockney Cemetery. Memorial
services will follow at 3 p.m. in South Plains Baptist Church in South
Plains with the Rev. Earnest Stewart, pastor, officiating.
Arrangements are by Moore-Rose-White Funeral Home of Lockney.
Mr. Lane was born in Turkey and graduated from Turkey High School. He
graduated from West Texas State University where he was quarterback
for the football team. He served as a medic in the Army during the
Korean conflict.
In 1957, Mr. Lane moved to Floyd County from Louisiana. He was a
member of the Lockney Lions Club, the Young Farmers, the Lockney
Quarterback Club, the Floyd County Fair board and was involved in
numerous youth programs. He had been a farmer and rancher since 1957.
He married Wanda "BooBoo" Gilbert in 1952 at Flomot.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Foy Lane of Turkey; two sons,
J.H. Lane of Lockney and Glen Lane of Midland; a daughter, Gwen Waller
of Temple; two sisters, Nita Puckett of Memphis and Gayle Rhoades of
Canyon; and nine grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be to the Bob Lane Memorial Scholarship
Fund in care of the First National Bank of Lockney, 201 N. Main St.,
Lockney, TX 79241.
