Amarillo
Ferris B. Hendrix
Ferris B. Hendrix, 84, of Amarillo, died Monday, Dec. 22, 1997.
Memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday in the chapel of St.
Paul United Methodist Church with Dr. Wylie E. "Buff" Hearn
officiating. Friends are invited to a luncheon immediately following
the service in the San Jacinto Room of the Ambassador Hotel.
Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia
Circle.
Mrs. Hendrix was born in Ben Franklin, Delta County, and raised in
Mineral Wells. She attended Texas Christian University.
She married Charles E. Hendrix in 1932. She lived in Mineral Wells and
Dallas before moving to Amarillo in 1954. She and her husband owned
and operated Sheppard Printing Co. in Amarillo for a number of years
until the company was acquired by Trafton-Autry Printing Co. She
worked for Trafton-Autry until retiring in 1980. Her husband died in
1980.
She was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church more than
40 years, having served on the administrative board and as historian.
She was a member of the Ruth Class at the church.
Mrs. Hendrix also was a member and past president of the South
Amarillo Garden Club, a member and past president of the Pilot Club
and a member of the Daughters of the Nile of the Avihk Temple.
As a longtime supporter of Berea College at Kentucky, she was a member
of the President's Club of the college.
In recognition of her support of the Los Angeles Opera, the opera
company will dedicate a 1998 performance to her memory.
Survivors include a son, Charles T. "Terry" Hendrix of Westlake
Village, Calif.

Robert R. Daily Sr.
Robert R. Daily Sr., 85, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Fort Sill Cemetery at
Lawton, Okla., with Chaplain Maj. Randy Mosteller of Fort Sill and the
Rev. John Gillispie officiating. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw
Funeral Directors, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street.
Mr. Daily was born in Hugo, Okla. He married Vaneta Mock in 1938 at
Olustee, Okla.
He was a member of the 18th Field Artillery Association at Fort Sill.
He served in World War II Northern France. He was in the Battle of the
Bulge and Rhineland Campaign. He served in Japan on occupational duty
from 1946-47. He received the Purple Heart in World War II. He was a
member of the Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert R. Daily Jr. of Amarillo; a
brother, Arthur Daily of Lawton, Okla., and a sister, Ruth Bray of
Purcell, Okla.; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 5147 Kirk.
De Walker
De Walker, 80, of Amarillo, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral
Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Howard F.M.
Childers of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will
be in Claude Cemetery at Claude.
Mr. Walker was a native of Claude. He attended Amarillo College and
Altus, Okla., Junior College before earning bachelor's and master's
degrees at North Texas State University. He began his teaching and
coaching career at White Deer High School in 1940 as a biology teacher
and football coach. He taught social sciences and coached at Borger
from 1941 until entering the Marine Corps at the beginning of World
War II.
Following the war, he taught physical education and coached at
Marshall High School for a semester before becoming assistant football
coach at North Texas State.
He accepted the position of athletics director for the Amarillo ISD in
1955 and retired in 1979. He was inducted into the Texas Athletic
Director's Hall of Honor in 1986.
Walker's wife, Bonnie Lee, died Nov. 15. They had been married since
1980.
Survivors include a son, Doyle B. Walker of Calbot, Ark.; a daughter,
Terrie Horkulick of Citrus Heights, Calif.; a stepson, Glenn Dallke of
Amarillo; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at 4525
Goodnight Trail.
Yen Ma
Yen Ma, 73, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.
Services will be at 8 a.m. Monday in Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors,
Martin Road Chapel, 1505 Martin Road. Burial will be in Llano East
Cemetery.
Mr. Ma was born in China. He came to Amarillo in 1979 from Vietnam. He
had been retired from Iowa Beef Processors.
Survivors include his wife, Lang Tran Ma; three sons, Nguyen Ma and
Tuan Ma, both of Amarillo, and Quang Ma of Henderson, Nev.; six
daughters, Hang Ma, Tran Ma and Kanh Ma, all of Amarillo, Le Ma and
Susan Tran Ma, both of San Diego, and Jessica Wan Ma of Richardson;
and 13 grandchildren.
The body will not be available for viewing.
The family will be at 1828 Popular.
Scot Kendall Hodges
Scot Kendall Hodges, 33, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Memory Gardens Cemetery by
Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. with Donnie McFarland
officiating.
Mr. Hodges was born in Amarillo. He graduated from Plano Senior High
in 1983. He attended Stephen F. Austin, Collin County Community
College and Amarillo College. He was employed by T&T Answering
Service.
His art work won first place at the Texas State Fair.
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Brown Hodges of Amarillo; a
sister, Sheri Kathleen Hodges George of Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother,
Stuart Dallas Hodges of Bryan; and a special friend, Donna Prather of
Amarillo.

James Green Sr.
James Green Sr., 69, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in the Seventh Day Adventist Church,
5804 Erick. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Warford-Walker
Mortuary Inc., 509 N. Hughes St.
Mr. Green was born in Colorado City and was educated in the public
school system. He had been an Amarillo resident for more than 30
years. He was employed as a porter at American National Bank and was a
member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; three sons, James Green II, James
Green III and Michael Green, all of Amarillo; three daughters, Sheryl
Ann Green of Amarillo, Elaine Green of Mount Vernon, N.Y., and Sandra
Green of San Clemente, Calif.; two brothers, Isiah Green of Abilene
and Matthew Green of Lubbock; three stepdaughters, Angela Graves and
Valencia Broner, both of Amarillo and Pamona Broner of Detroit; five
stepsons, Donald Luper of Amarillo, Anthony Phea of Plainview,
Warminski Broner of Kennedy, Bobby Phea of Killeen and Miles Luper of
Korea; and many grandchildren.
The family will be at 900 N. Jefferson.
E. Gale O'Brien
E. Gale O'Brien, 78, of Amarillo, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.
Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Blackburn-Shaw Funeral
Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street. Mass will
be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Monsignor
Francis A. Smyer officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.
Mr. O'Brien was a 50-year resident of Amarillo. He was involved in the
home building industry as a designer. He was a member and Eucharistic
minister of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 year, Mary Edwin O'Brien,
in 1996.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Gray, Martha O'Brien and
Theresa Seideman; three sons, David O'Brien, Mike O'Brien and Dan
O'Brien; a brother, Leo X. O'Brien; 17 grandchildren; and a
great-grandchild.
The family will be at 5100 Hereford. They requests memorials be to
Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center.
Annie Phillips
Annie Phillips, 94, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Blackburn-Shaw Funeral
Directors, Memorial Chapel, Fifth Avenue and Pierce Street with the
Rev. Rick Rice of Bykota Baptist Church and the Rev. Danny Lucas,
interim pastor of the Lighthouse Church, officiating. Burial will be
in Llano Cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Florence, Ala., and moved to Amarillo in
1920. She had been employed as a nurse's aid by St. Anthony's and
Northwest Texas Hospitals. She was a member of Bykota Baptist Church.
She married Edgar Phillips in 1920 at Cherokee, Ala. He died in 1981.
She also was preceded in death by two sons, Clarence and James, and a
daughter, Edna Durham.
Survivors include two sons, Loyd Ray Phillips of Amarillo and Edward
Lee Phillips of Houston; three daughters, Jo Ann Bowman of Lone Oak,
Wanda Kelly of Amarillo and Betty Harris of Garland; 12 grandchildren;
and 20 great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 2703 S. Tyler. They request memorials be to
Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice and Life Enrichment Center.
Peggy J. Horn Deckard
Peggy J. Horn Deckard, 63, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Boxwell Brothers Funeral
Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Anthony
Pennington, pastor of Northwest Baptist Church, officiating. Burial
will be at 3 p.m. in Ochiltree Cemetery.
Mrs. Deckard was born in Perryton and had lived in Amarillo since
1967. She retired as a nurse's assistant from the Veterans Affairs
Medical Center. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Randy Deckard and Kirk
Thompson.
Survivors include her mother, Effie Horn Howard of Amarillo; four
sons, Douglas Drum of Liberal, Kan., Kelly Thompson of Perryton, Rocky
Deckard of Temple and Bryan Deckard of Arlington; two daughters,
Debbie Drum Eckenberry of Liberal, Kan., and Brenda Janee Munoz of
Amarillo; a brother, Dean Horn of Perryton; seven grandchildren; and
one great-grandchild.

Arthur Lee Chambers
Arthur Lee Chambers, 82, of Canyon, died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 1998.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Assembly of God
Church with the Rev. Stan Fortenberry officiating. Arrangements are by
Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle.
Mr. Chambers was born in Love Community. He moved to Canyon in 1923
and graduated from Canyon High School in 1934. He served in the Army
from 1934 until 1941. After his discharge, he became a skilled
woodworker. He was employed as a draftsman and production engineer. He
was a member of the Amarillo First Assembly of God Church.
He married Betty Jeanne Simpson in 1939 at Denver.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jeanne Sargent of Aurora,
Colo., Eleanor Becker of Grand Junction, Colo., and Susan Anderson of
Owego, N.Y.; two sisters, Bessie Patterson of Tulsa, Okla., and Jewell
Horton of Pollock Pines, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and twin
great-grandsons.

Floyd Fleming
MORTON - Floyd Fleming, 68, of Yucca Valley, Calif., formerly of
Ruidoso, N.M., died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in
Morton
with the Rev. Gordon Renshaw officiating. Burial will be in Morton
Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Fleming was born in Bailey County. He was a former bakery owner in
Carlsbad, N.M. He moved to Yucca Valley from Ruidoso, N.M., in 1995.
He was a Methodist.
Survivors include a son, Floyd M. Fleming Jr. of Mooresville, N.C.;
two daughters, Lisa Lea of Portland, Ore., and Debbie Brister of Mount
Ulla, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Paulette Galvan of Jackson, Miss.; a
sister, Lena Faye Blalock of Pleasanton; two brothers, Carrol Fleming
of Brownfield and Elvis Fleming of Roswell, N.M.; and six
grandchildren.
Virginia Salter Tatum
SEGUIN - Virginia Salter Tatum, 96, a former Guymon, Okla., resident,
died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Elmhurst Cemetery at
Guymon with the Rev. Jim Jacobson, pastor of First Presbyterian
Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Henson-Novak Funeral
Directors. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 18 in First
Presbyterian Church in Seguin.
Mrs. Tatum was born in Wellington. Soon after, she and her family
pioneered in Texas County. She received her posthigh school education
as a bookkeeper at a Guymon bank. She moved to Dodge City, Kan.,
before moving to Liberal, Kan.
She was a partner with her husband in a sewing-machine,
appliance-repair business until his death. Mrs. Tatum was a member of
First Presbyterian Church of Guymon and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the PEO
Sisterhood and had been active in Scouting with her sons. She had been
a member of First Presbyterian Church in Seguin since 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Tatum of Seguin and Leland Tatum
of Houston; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
John Overton Wimberley
LITTLEFIELD - John Overton Wimberley, 68, died Friday, Jan. 9. 1998.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Crescent Park Church of Christ
with Eric Dickey, minister, and Wilburn Dennis, retired minister,
officiating. Burial will be in Littlefield Memorial Park by Hammons
Funeral Home.
Mr. Wimberley was a native of Wellman. He had been employed by
Southwestern Public Service Co. as an instrument maintenance
technician. He had been an elder for 25 years and member of the
Crescent Park Church of Christ. He worked the sound system for the
West Texas Country Western, Gospel and Bluegrass Jamborees.
He married Earlyne Legate in 1949 at Levelland.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Connie Roach of Mount
Vernon and Vickie Bolton of Arlington; a son, John Wimberley of
Claude; his mother, Thelma Wimberley of Littlefield; three brothers,
Alton Wimberley of Anton, Edwin Wimberley of Levelland and Lewis
Wimberley of Montgomery, Ala.; two sisters, Iva Nell Stinson of Snyder
and Alicia Wimberley of Fillmore, Utah; and six grandchildren.

Dr. Robert F. Hyde
ORIENTAL, N.C. - Dr. Robert F. Hyde, 77, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Services will be in Texas at a later date. Arrangements are by
Pollock, Wells and Best Funeral Home in New Bern.
Dr. Hyde was born in Waco, Texas, and grew up in the central Texas
area. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas
at Austin. He graduated from the University of Texas Medical School in
Galveston in 1944.
He married Myra Margaret Smith in 1944.
He served his internship as a naval medical officer at Aiea Naval
Hospital in Hawaii and then served as a medical officer aboard the
U.S.S. Floyd B. Parks.
After being released from the service, Dr. Hyde began orthopedic
residency training in Houston. In 1950, he and his family moved to
Amarillo, where he set up a private practice.
In 1952, Dr. Hyde was recalled to duty for the Korean War. He served
at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego. He returned to Amarillo in 1954
and lived in Amarillo until retiring in 1983, when he moved to
Oriental.
Dr. Hyde was past president of the Texas Orthopedic Association. He
was a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical
Association, the Western Orthopedic Association, the Panhandle
District Medical Society and the Potter-Randall County Medical
Society.
He was a diplomate to the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, the
Fellow American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Fellow American
College of Surgeons.
Dr. Hyde was an original member of the Amarillo Area Foundation
Hospital Committee, the committee that planned the Amarillo Medical
Center. He was chairman of the Amarillo Sabin Oral Sunday Committee.
He was an associate clinical professor of orthopedic surgery at Texas
Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo from 1973 until
1983.
In 1961, he and his wife worked in Bogota, Columbia, South America,
with the Dr. Tom Dooley Volunteer Overseas Medical Program. He
received the Storyteller Award in 1983 from the Children's
Rehabilitation Center. He also was the first commodore of the Amarillo
Yacht Club.
Survivors include his wife, Myra S. Hyde of Oriental; and children,
Dr. Douglass Y. Hyde of Amarillo, Capt. Brian E. Hyde of Austin, Capt.
Allan S. Hyde of Durango, Colo., and Myra B. Hyde, J.D., of
Washington, D.C.
Oklahoma
Glen William Gleaves
SAYRE, Okla. - Glen William Gleaves, 78, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rose Chapel Funeral Service with
Albert Warnken and David Worsham officiating. Burial will be in
Sayre-Doxey Cemetery.
Mr. Gleaves was born in Grimes and attended school there. He farmed
until joining the CCC's at Burns Flat in 1938. After his discharge, he
was employed laying pipe until 1942 when he returned to farming.
He married Anglee Walker in 1940 at Grimes. He was preceded in death
by an infant daughter, Ashely Renee.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Glenda Whinery of Elk City;
three sons, Al Gleaves of Canyon, Texas, Wayne Gleaves of Hobbs,N.M.,
and Lee Gleaves in Lawton; a sister, Mae Orr of Seminole; 10
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Larry Morris
BOISE CITY, Okla. - Larry Morris, 86, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Llano Cemetery
Mausoleum Chapel in Amarillo, Texas, with the Rev. Derek Cox, pastor
of First Baptist Church in Boise City, officiating. Arrangements are
by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia Circle.
Mr. Morris was born in Oklahoma and had been a resident of Boise City
for 38 years. He retired as lab and X-ray technician from Cimarron
Hospital. He received the Outstanding Lab Technician award in the
mid-1970's. He was a licensed practical nurse.
Mr. Morris was a veteran in the Amarillo National Guard during World
War II. He was a longtime member of Bible Baptist Church in Elkhart,
Kan., a member of First Baptist Church and Lion's Club in Boise City,
and a Boy Scout leader.
He married Alice Ponder in 1932 at Clovis,N.M. He was preceded in
death by a son, Robert Kenneth Morris, in 1947.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Larry Morris of Murfreesboro,
Tenn.; two daughters, Barbara Ann Ernest of Denver and Patricia
Jeanine Shelby of Jacksonville, Ark.; 12 grandchildren; and 22
great-grandchildren.
Frank Seburn Bullard Jr.
FORGAN, Okla. - Frank Seburn "Junior" Bullard Jr., 57, died Thursday,
Jan. 8, 1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the Forgan High School gymnasium
with Terry Fox and Stacy Esco officiating. Burial will be in Forgan
Cemetery by Clark Funeral Service of Beaver.
Mr. Bullard was born in Mount Vernon, Texas. He moved to Beaver County
42 years ago and made his home in Forgan. He was the maintenance
engineer for the Forgan schools. He also drove the activity bus for
several years. He was a firefighter for 25 years, serving as fire
chief for many of those years.
He married Carline Radcliff in 1957 at Clayton, N.M.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Debbie Cash of Lake
Havasu City, Ariz., Tammy Griffin of Newkirk and Cindy Huebner of
Turpin; two brothers, Charles Bullard of Orlando, Fla., and James
Krapp of Borger, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
New Mexico
Mary V. Smith
MELROSE, N.M. - Mary V. Smith, 91, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First United Methodist Church
with the Rev. Kevin Bushart officiating. Burial will be in Melrose
Cemetery by SteedTodd Funeral Home in Clovis.
Mrs. Smith was born in Hereford, Texas, then moved to Roosevelt County
in 1906. She attended schools at Deep Lake School, Prairieview School
and Melrose. She farmed with her husband and later was employed by
Tindles Grocery, City Drug Store, and Melrose School cafeteria. She
was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Smith, and a daughter,
Juanita Stewart.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Lois Bright of Melrose; a sister,
Moease Caudill of California; 10 grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren; and one greatgreat-grandson.
The family requests memorials be to Melrose Cemetery Association.
Merle P. Kamradt
CLOVIS, N.M. - Merle P. Kamradt, 67, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Steed-Todd Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial will be in Grady Cemetery at Grady.
Mrs. Kamradt was born in Belleview and had been a longtime resident of
Curry County. She graduated from Grady High School.
From 1950 to 1968, she and her husband, Jesse, lived in Conchas, where
she worked as the assistant post master. She also worked at Conchas
Lake Lodge. She retired as a customer service clerk for Sears.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Thursday Night Craft Club and
the Quay County Extension Club.
Mrs. Kamradt was a member of Grady Baptist Church in Grady and
attended Central Christian Church in Clovis.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Randy Kamradt of Clovis; a
brother, Joel Price of Las Cruces; and three grandchildren.
Winona L. Martin
TEXICO, N.M. - Winona L. "Nonie" Martin, 71, died Friday, Jan. 9,
1998.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church with Bob
Brown and Wyatt Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Texico
Cemetery by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
Mrs. Martin was born in Abernathy, Texas. She had been a resident of
the Clovis and Texico area for many years. She was a homemaker and
member of Texico Baptist Church. She worked as a weigh master for
ranchers and farmers for many years.
She married Charles M. Martin in 1943 at Tucumcari.
Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by two daughters, Donna Gail and
Rhonda Nadene.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Bobby Martin of Clovis and
Benny Martin of Washington, D.C.; two daughters, Carla Jo Fickel of
Abilene, Texas, and Brenda Brady of Castle Rock, Colo.; two sisters,
Nadine Hardisty of Clovis and Imogene Hudson of Medford, Ore.; six
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The family will be at 609 State. They request memorials be to the
Baptist Children's Home.
Bill A. Vance
PORTALES, N.M. - Bill A. Vance, 78, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in University Baptist Church with
Dr. Farrell Odom officiating. Burial will be in Portales Cemetery by
Muffley Funeral Home in Clovis.
Mr. Vance was born in Amarillo but spent most of his life in Portales.
After his military service during World War II, he spent a few years
living in Dolores, Colo. He returned to Portales in 1950.
He was involved in the construction business for more than 20 years.
He became a silversmith 25 years ago. His signature piece, the
southwestern windmill tie of turquoise and jasper, can be found all
over the world.
Mr. Vance and some of his friends formed a band, and in 1981, recorded
an album. They played at The World Music Festival in Nancy, France.
After a month in France, they returned to Portales and continued to
play at local events.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Lois Freeman Vance.
Survivors include three daughters, Judy Crume of Asheboro, N.C., Jany
Warnica of Amarillo and Jill Bukowski of Waco, Texas; a sister, Mrs.
Happy Freeman of Cortez, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

Frances Stella Trepanier
QUANAH - Frances Stella Trepanier, 74, of Vernon, a former Quanah
resident, died Thursday, Jan. 8, 1998.
Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Trinity Episcopal Church with the
Rev. James P. Haney officiating. Burial was in Quanah Memorial Park by
Price-Jackson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Trepanier was born in Buffalo, N.Y. She had been a resident of
Quanah for 20 before moving to Vernon five years ago. She had been
retired. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Julie Sanders of Quanah; a
granddaughter; four grandsons; and three great-granddaughters
daughters.
R.W. Beck
LEFORS - R.W. Beck, 77, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Carmichael-Whatley Colonial
Chapel in Pampa with the Rev. Jim Teeter, pastor of First United
Methodist Church of Lefors, officiating. Burial will be in Miami
Cemetery.
Mr. Beck was born in Mobeetie. He moved to Lefors in 1958 from Miami.
In 1986, he retired after 30 years of employment from Cities Service
Oil Co. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a
member of the First United Methodist Church and the Miami American
Legion Post.
He married Margaret Russell in 1942 at Neosho, Mo. She died in April
1984. In June 1984, he married Dortha Painter at Lefors.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Bill Beck of Eunice, N.M.; a
daughter, Paula Schuman of Dumas; two stepsons, David Wayne Painter of
Greenville and F. Earl Painter of Pauls Valley, Okla.; two
stepdaughters, Brenda Roach of White Deer and Donna Stafford of
Houston; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 13
stepgrandchildren; and eight stepgreatgrandchildren.
Doll Bragg Edmonds
HAPPY - Doll Bragg Edmonds, 92, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Brooks Funeral Directors Chapel
in Happy with Jim Currie, pastor of First United Methodist Church of
Crowell, officiating. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery.
Mrs. Edmonds was born in Memphis. She graduated from Floydada High
School in 1923 and received her teacher's certification from West
Texas Teachers College in Canyon. Before her marriage, she taught at
Ralph Switch School and the Edmonds School.
She lived in Roosevelt County, N.M. until 1944 then returned to Happy.
She taught in the Happy Elementary School and later had a private
kindergarten. She also helped her husband with their cattle business
until his death. She was a member of Eastern Star, Cowbells and the
Ester Sunday School Class in the Baptist church.
She married George Edmonds in 1929. He died in 1987.
Survivors include a son, Elmo Edmonds of Lamesa; a daughter, Moly Sue
Cawthon of Canyon; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four
great-greatgrandchildren.

QUANAH - Guy McElroy, 49, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Waynesville Chapel of Wells
Funeral Home, Waynesville, N.C., with the Rev. J.D. Grant officiating.
Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery.
Mr. McElroy was born in Clayton, Ga. He received his bachelors degree
in business administration from Western Carolina University in 1973.
He was a Army veteran of Vietnam.
Mr. McElroy had lived in Quanah since 1995. He was employed as human
resource safety manager by Georgia Pacific and was a horse breeder.
He married Jeanne Sutton in 1972 at Sylba, N.C.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Stephanie McElroy of Quanah; a
son, Trey McElroy of Quanah; his father, Guy Willard McElroy Sr. of
Franklin, N.C.; and a brother, John McElroy of Bethel, N.C.

Mrs. Buckner was born in Marineil and raised in Sweetwater. She moved
to Dalhart in 1978 from Big Spring. She was a member of First Baptist
Church and Coon Memorial Hospital & Home Auxiliary.
She married Tom Buckner. He died in 1975. She was also preceded in
death by a son, Tommy Buckner.
Survivors include two brothers, J.B. Barker of Colorado City and L.B.
Barker of Teague; a sister, Bessie Andrews of Big Spring; her
daughter-in-law, Joy Buckner of Dalhart; two grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Melchor was born in Dimmitt where she attended school. She was a
homemaker and member of Templo Hermoso Church.
She married Bonifacio Melchor in 1988 at Hereford. She was preceded in
death by a brother, Jose Salvador Gomez, in 1981.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Annyssa Monique Melchor
and Samantha Nicole Melchor, both of Hereford; a son, Esiquiel Joseph
Melchor of Hereford; her parents, Jose and Maria Gomez of Amarillo;

DUMAS - James K. St. Clair, 68, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998.

Mr. St. Clair was born in Isabel, Kan., and had been a resident of
Dumas since 1951. He was a veteran of the Army. He retired vocational
auto mechanics teacher from Dumas High and Borger High Schools.
He married Artie Potter in 1996 at Dumas. He was preceded in death by
his first wife, Wanda D. St. Clair, in 1994.

TULIA - O. Norlan Dudley, 70, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Wallace Funeral Home Chapel with
the Rev. Denzil Leonard, retired Baptist minister from Canadian,
officiating. Burial will be in Silverton Cemetery at Silverton.
Mr. Dudley was born and raised in Silverton. He graduated from
Silverton High School. He joined the Navy in 1945 and was discharged
in 1946. He moved to Tulia in 1982.
He was a deputy sheriff for Swisher County until 1988. He also was a
retired banker and bondsman.
Mr. Dudley was a member of First United Methodist Church, the
Silverton AF&AM Masonic Lodge, the Khiva Shrine, the El Paso Scottish
Rite, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the
Sheriff's Association of Texas. He also had been a member of the Lions
Club for 25 years.
He married Doris Faye Holt in 1948 at Amarillo.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joan Vining of
Greenville, Laura McNamara of Lubbock and Donna Pigg of Quitaque;
three sisters, LaJeanne Graham of Lovington, N.M., Mary Davis of
Silverton and Connie Comer of Friona; and nine grandchildren.

"Buddy" Adrian
EARTH - "Buddy" Adrian, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the
Rev. Bobby Broyles of the church and the Rev. Fred Campbell of DeSoto
officiating. Burial will be Earth Memorial Cemetery by Parsons-Ellis
Funeral Home.
Mr. Adrian was born in Chillicothe. He had lived in Earth since 1951,
moving from Pecos. He was a farmer.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and a former Sunday school
superintendent. He also was on the church building committee. He was a
member of the Earth Senior Citizens and the Springlake-Earth School
Booster Club and a charter member of the Earth Lions Club.
He married Nina Lundry in 1939 at Altus, Okla.
Mr. Adrian was preceded in death by a daughter, De Ann Kilmer, in
1982.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Lonnie Adrian of Muleshoe; a
daughter, Susie Harendt of Lubbock; a sister, Jean Kennett of
Amarillo; and five grandchildren.

Dr. Carter Holcomb
WELLINGTON - Dr. Carter Holcomb, 77, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in First Baptist Church with the
Rev. James McLeod, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in North
Fairview Cemetery by Adams Funeral Home.
Dr. Holcomb was born in Wellington and graduated from Wellington High
School in 1937. He did his pre-med studies at the University of Texas
at Austin and graduated from the Tulane University School of Medicine
in New Orleans in 1952.
He served with the Army during World War II in the 104th Infantry
Division, 329th Medical Battalion. He received a battlefield
commission as first lieutenant and was awarded a Bronze Star and a
Purple Heart.
Dr. Holcomb returned to Wellington in 1953 and was in private family
practice until 1991. He delivered about 3000 babies, the last being
his granddaughter in 1981.
He was a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical
Association and the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. He was a
former member of the American Cancer Society and the American Heart
Association. He also was a former district chairman of the Boy Scouts.
Dr. Holcomb married Wanda Birden in 1965 at Wellington. She died in
1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Noto of Wellington; four sons,
Steven Holcomb of Virginia, and Stan Holcomb, Mark Holcomb and David
Holcomb, all of Oregon; a stepdaughter, Linda Towery of Illinois;
three brothers, H.A. Holcomb and Dysart Holcomb, both of Amarillo, and
Sam Holcomb of California; a sister, Dorothy Johnson of California;
and a granddaughter.

Julia Borchardt
PLAINVIEW - Julia Borchardt, 93, of Westville, Okla., a former Floyd
County resident, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.

Chapel with Craig Borchardt officiating. Burial will be in Plainview
Cemetery.
Mrs. Borchardt was born in Coryell City. She was a nurse for 25 years
in Floyd County. She was a resident of Austin for 30 years and a
member of Faith Lutheran Church in Austin.
She married Fred Borchardt in 1928 at Providence. He died in 1960.
Survivors include a son, Donald Borchardt of Lincoln, Ark.; four
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Victor Shewbert
DALHART - Victor "Vic" Shewbert, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Central United Methodist Church
with the Rev. Everett Statler, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in
Memorial Park Cemetery by Hass Funeral Home Inc.
Mr. Shewbert was born and raised in Dalhart. He graduated from Dalhart
High School in 1932. He married Maxine Ritchey in 1941 at Dalhart.
He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942. After World War II, he returned
to Dalhart and worked for HWB Grocery. In 1970, he and four others
purchased HWB.
Mr. Shewbert was an active member of the Dalhart community. He had
served as city councilman and mayor. He was a past president of the
Dalhart Area Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the Dalhart
Lions Club. He served on the boards of Meals on Wheels and the Senior
Citizens and was a member and past chairman of the board of Central
United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Vicki Schmidt of
Albuquerque, N.M., Penny Rahlfs of Canyon and Terry Boston of Dalhart;
a sister, Betty Loney of Grove City, Penn.; a brother, Ted Tethers of
Midwest City, Okla.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

William Delbert Clawson
William Delbert Clawson, 82, of Amarillo, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday in Trinity United Methodist Church
with the Rev. Wayne Sheffield, pastor, and the Rev. Bill Austin,
nephew and retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in
Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2820 Virginia
Circle.
Mr. Clawson was born in Jonesboro. He moved with his family to New
Mexico, Missouri and then to Hedley. He worked at a lumber yard in
Bula then moved to Amarillo and helped in the construction of Pantex.
He worked for Pantex until his enlistment in the Army in World War II.
He served for three years as a radio communication operator in
Mindeanow and Layte in the South Pacific.
After his discharge, he was employed by Munday Cooper Lumber Co.
before going into home construction and repair business until his
retirement. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church,
the Christian Friendship Sunday School class, and the Saints Alive
choir.
He married Sybil Holland in 1938 at Hedley.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Merle Clawson of Bedford and
Randy Clawson of Amarillo; a sister, Thelma Lamm of Hereford; a
grandson; and a great-grandson.

Janie Walker, 55, of Amarillo, a former Dimmitt resident, died Friday,

Ms. Walker was born in Dimmitt. She lived in Leedey, Okla., before
moving to Amarillo in 1987.

Neal A. Mager
Neal A. Mager, 80, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998.
A vigil will be at 7 p.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Inc., 4100 S.
Georgia St. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's
Catholic Church.
Mr. Mager grew up in Amarillo. He graduated from Amarillo High School
and attended Texas A&M University. He served as a lieutenant in the
Army Air Corps during World War II.
He spent 45 years with the Dale Carnegie Courses in Amarillo,
Washington and New York. He later became a brokerassociate with
Caldwell Bankers and First Equity Realtors before retiring in the
mid1980s.
After retiring, Mr. Mager continued to teach the Dale Carnegie Courses
until three years ago.
He married Roberta Gaines in 1951.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Georgiana Klock of Denver; and
two brothers, George L. Mager and Dr. Robert E. Mager, both of
Amarillo.
