   TEVIS,  EDUVIJES  (RAUL)  72, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001 in a
   local hospital. He was a longtime resident of El Paso and was a member
   of  the  Catholic  Church.  Mr. Ochoa was a former owner of California
   Poppy  Restaurant. He is survived by his wife, Irene Ochoa. Sons, Raul
   Ochoa  and  Roberto Ochoa and wife Mariana. Daughters, Maria Magdalena
   Ochoa,  Patricia  Cereceres  of  Odessa,  TX., Irene Espindola, Sylvia
   Campos,  and  Elva Avalos. 10 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren.
   Brothers,  Valentin  Mercado  and  Diego Ochoa. Sister, Maria Gandara.

   CAMACHO,  DAVID  ARMANDO  49,  passed  away  Thursday,  April 5, 2001.
   Lifelong  resident  of El Paso and member of St. Patrick Cathedral. He
   was  a  U.S.  Marine  Veteran  and a local truckdriver for many years.
   Survived by daughters Marie Vivette and Veronica Rose Camacho, sisters
   Carmen  and husband Alfred Jacquez, Alicia Rodriguez, Sara and husband
   Bill  Matyear,  nieces  Lillian Garcia, Vangie Sanchez, Cindy Escobar,
   Melissa Jacques, Jennifer Jacques, nephews Bill Matyear, Jr. and Ernie
   Rodriguez,  7  grandnieces  and  3 grandnephews and faithful caregiver
   Coco Moreno. Mr. Camacho will lie in state Monday from 4:00 P.M. until
   9:00  P.M.  at  Martin  Funeral Home. Rosary Service will be held at 7
   P.M.  Monday  at Martin Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:15 A.M.

   TABOADA, ELENA G. DE 87, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001. Longtime
   resident  of  El  Paso  and Juarez and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe
   Catholic  Church.  She  was  active  in  the Women's Catholic Movement
   Organization  in  Juarez  for  many  years.  Survived by husband Pedro
   Taboada  Rey  of  58  years,  son  Pedro  J.  Taboada and wife Lucila,
   daughter  Luz  Elena  Taboada, 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren,
   brother  Jose  Gutierrez and wife Josie, and sister-in-law Luz Taboada
   Rey.  Mrs.  Taboada will lie in state Monday from 4:00 P.M. until 9:00
   P.M.  at  Martin  Funeral  Home  Central.  Rosary Service will be held
   Monday  at  7:30  P.M.  at  Martin  Chapel.  Funeral Mass will be held
   Tuesday  at  1:00  P.M.  at  Our  Lady  of  Guadalupe Catholic Church.

   by her family andfriends and she will be greatly missed.
   
   
   YOUNGS,  BILL  GENE 68 passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 4, 2001
   in  El  Paso,  Texas.  He lived in El Paso since 1962 and retired as a
   truck dispatcher. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Tula Mae &
   Lester  Cole  Youngs. Bill is survived by his brothers Richard Youngs,
   Ronald  Dean  Youngs  (twin brother), John Ellis Youngs and Roy Davis;
   daughters,  Elizabeth  Luann  Walker,  Melissa  Rose  Thompson;  sons,
   Douglas  Alan  Youngs  and  Bruce  Gordon  Youngs,  and blessed with 8
   grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday April 11th from 2 to 9 pm,
   prayer  service  7 pm at Hillcrest Chapel eastside. Funeral will be at
   10:00   am   Thursday  April  12th  at  Ft  Bliss  National  Cemetery.

   Cook,  Neel Margaret Long-time El Paso resident passed away peacefully
   on  March 20 2001 in Olympia, WA. A memorial service was held on March
   25.  Margaret  was  born in Pratt, Kansas. She graduated from college,
   became  a teacher, then met and married Air Force Captain Alan F. Neel
   -  a  third  generation  El Paso resident who spent most of his career
   with  TBL  Insurance Adjusters. Margaret was a wonderful loving mother
   who  enjoyed  painting,  modeling, cooking and playing bridge. She was
   active  in  Alpha  Gamma  Delta, the El Paso Woman's Club and PEO. Her
   husband  Alan  and  brother  Reginald  preceded  her  in death. She is
   survived  by her two sons Alan Neel II of Boca Raton, FL and Jon Neel,
   Olympia, WA); 4 grandchildren; and her sister Josephine Cook Sherwood.
   
   
   CROUCH,  JAMES LEWIS ''JIM'' 58, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2001.
   He  was  the son of Paul and Dorothy Crouch who have both preceded him
   in death. Jim was a 1965 graduate of Sul Ross University, Alpine, TX.,
   he  was  a  resident  of  Horizon City (El Paso), TX. He was a retired
   supervisor  with  Texaco,  first  in Pampa, TX. and then in Maysville,
   OK.,  and was previously manager and partner for Panhandle Packing Co.
   1965,  manager  of Swift International Construction in Madagascar, and
   owner  of  Laketon  Processing  Co, Laketon, TX. He is survived by his
   daughters,  Kim  Renee Murphy and Melissa Clark of Como, TX.; son, Jim
   Crouch,  El  Paso,  TX.;  seven  grandchildren; sister, Barbara Rogers
   Talley  and  many friends. Services will be private and interment will
   be  at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
   made to the lung foundation of your choice.
   
   
   RHODES,  ROBERT  C.  44,  died  Wednesday,  April  4,2001  in  a local
   hospital. He is survived by his mother Consuelo Rhodes; his wife Olga;
   his  sons  Dennis,  Juan (Johnny), Michael; his daughter, Amber Marie;
   his  sisters  Marie  Cheri  Gallegos, Mary Pokluda; his brother Robert
   Rhodes  II;  and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 3
   to  9  PM. Rosary Sunday at 7 PM at La Paz Funeral Home. Mass is at 10
   AM, Monday April 9 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers

   VALENZUELA,  RODOLFO  68 passed away Thursday, April 5, 2001. Memorial
   service  will  take  place  on Monday, April 9, 2001 from 1:00 P.M. to
   1:30 P.M. at San Jose Funeral Home. Survived by his loving wife Grace,
   his  sons,  Rudy  Jr.,  Randy,  Jaime  and Javier, daughters, Vanessa,
   Sandra,  Julia, Adriana, Grizelda and nine grandchildren. Our Papi ''A

   AVITIA, GABRIEL P. passed away March 23, 2001 at the age of 83. He was
   born  June  30, 1917 in El Paso, Texas and had been a 48 year resident
   of Lomita, California. He was a retired bricklayer. He was preceded in
   death  by  his son and daughter-in-law, George and Beverly Avitia, his
   parents  Gabriel  Y. and Jesusita Avitia and brother George P. Avitia.
   He  is  survived  by his wife Anne Avitia of Lomita, daughters, Vongie
   (Eddie)  Rosales  of  Lomita,  Ida (Angelo) Margain of Torrance, Patsy
   (Eddie)    Palos    of    Harbor    City;    12    grandchildren;   10
   great-grandchildren; brother Frank P. Avitia; sister Emma A. Contreras
   both  of El Paso, Texas. Services were held Tuesday, March 27, 2001 in
   the  Green  Hills  Mortuary  Chapel,  with  interment  at  Green Hills

   HILLIS,  MRS.  VIRGINIA  K.  94, passed away Friday April 6, 2001 in a
   local  hospital. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso. Survivors son
   Frank  G.  Trew.  Daughter  Virginia L. Fox. 7 Grandchildren, 17 great
   grandchildren  and a great great grandchild. Visitation will be Sunday

   CORRAL,  ESTEBAN, 83, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001. He was a 30
   year  El  Paso  resident.  Left  to  cherish his memories are his sons
   Salvador Corral, Rogelio Corral, Esteban Corral Jr. and Manuel Corral;
   his  daughters Graciela Acosta, Margarita Rivas, Maria Moreno and Olga
   Corral,  24  grandchildren,  6  great grandchildren. He is preceded in
   death by his wife Francisca Corral, parents Cristobal and Maria Corral
   and  daughter Mercedes Tarin. Visitation will be held on Monday, April
   9, 2001, from 4-9 pm, with Rosary at 7 pm. Mass will be said at 11 am,
   Tuesday,  at San Felipe de Jesus Church, 401 Passmore Rd. Arrangements

   MARSTON,  ARTHUR  RICHARD  71, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001. He
   was  a  lifelong resident of El Paso and the son of Samuel Shirley and
   Edna Holt Marston. He was born in El Paso, Texas on April 25, 1929. He
   was  retired after 37 years of dedication as a comptroller at Dick Poe
   Family  of Dealerships and Evergreen Cemeteries. He married Nellie Fay
   Mulhern on March 24, 1951 in El Paso, Texas. He served as a 1st Lt. in
   the  U.S.  Army stationed in Erlangen Germany. His duty assignment was
   AAA AW Gun Unit Commander. He received the Army of Occupation Medal in
   Germany  and  the  National Defense Service Medal. Dick graduated from
   the  University of Texas at El Paso (formerly College of Mines), was a
   member   of   Sigma  Alpha  Epsilon  Fraternity  and  Delta  Sigma  Pi
   Professional  Business  Fraternity.  He was survived by his wife of 50
   years  Nellie;  daughters,  Debbie Marston Smith and Georgetta Marston
   Leyendecker;  son, Richard Frederick Marston; grandchildren, Stephanie
   Michelle  Smith,  Justin Richard Smith, Kyle Jordan Leyendecker, Tyson
   Jay Leyendecker, Parker Reed Leyendecker and Turner Gates Leyendecker.
   A  Memorial  Service  will be held at Martin Funeral Home West at 3:00
   P.M.  on  Monday, April 9, with Reverend H. Eugene Myrick officiating.
   Honorary   pallbearers   are  Donald  Mulhern,  Thomas  Mulhern,  Greg
   Leyendecker,  Steve  Smith,  Dick  Poe, Richard Poe, George Groesbeck,
   Paul Worley and Jack Underwood. In lieu of flowers the family requests

   Episcopal Church or La Mariposa Hospice in his memory.
   
   
   CLODFELTER,  ANN  Laurie GREGORY passed away on April 7, 2001 and went
   and  met  her  Lord  and Savior Jesus Christ. Born on March 8, 1940 in
   Chattanooga,  Tennessee,  she  graduated  from  City High and attended
   Abilene  Christian  University  in  Abilene,  Texas, married after her
   junior year in college, she ministered with her husband in four states
   and  eight  Churches  of  Christ: Dunn, Copperas Cove, Galena Park and
   Westside - El Paso all in Texas; Laurel, Mississippi; Hermitage Road -
   Richmond,  Virginia;  central  -  Birmingham  and Pelham, Alabama. Her
   fellow  students at ACU chose her to be Class Favorite, Campus Beauty,
   Miss  ACU  and  Homecoming  Queen during her junior year: 1960-61. She
   maintained  those same qualities of Christian personality and faith to
   her  last  minute  of  consciousness.  One book author cited her as an
   example  of  a Christian women and a second author dedicated a book to
   her  for  the motivation she gave to excel. Ann requested that in lieu
   of  flowers, contributions be made to Kenya Mission, c/o Pelham Church
   of  Christ,  P.O.  Box 151, Pelham, Alabama 35124 or a charity of your
   choice.  She  was  preceded in death by her parents: Thomas Willingham
   Gregory,  Senior  and  Annie Laurie Marlin Gregory. She is survived by
   her  husband  Charles  Manley  Clodfelter,  Sr.,  El  Paso, Texas. One
   daughter;  Laurie  Ann  Sides,  El  Paso, Texas; two sons: Gregory Lee
   Clodfelter,  Kenya,  East  Africa;  Charles  Manley  Clodfelter,  Jr.,
   Orlando,  Florida;  four  grandchildren,  and two brothers. Visitation
   will  be  held  on  Monday,  April 9, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sunset

   Castaneda,  Roberto  84, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001. He was a
   resident  of  El  Paso  and  member  of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic
   Church.  Preceded  in  death  by son Arturo Castaneda. Survived by his
   wife  Hortencia  F.  Castaneda,  sons,  Roberto Castaneda, Victor Raul
   Castaneda   and   Carlos   Castaneda,   12   grandchildren,  24  great
   grandchildren  and  1  great  great  grandchild,  sister, Maria De Los
   Angeles Chavez, brother Francisco Castaneda.
   
    Mr.  Castaneda  will lie in state Tuesday from 4:00 to 9:00 P.M. with

   CORBETT,  JEWEL  C.  96  and a former resident of El Paso, passed away
   Saturday,  April 7, 2001 in Bedford, Texas. Mrs. Corbett was a retired
   secretary  and  a  former  member  of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was
   preceded  in  death by her husband of 72 years Harry H. Corbett. Jewel
   is  survived  by  her  daughter  Carole  Newman and husband Neil E. of
   Irving;  grandchildren  Susan  Williams  and  husband Jake of El Paso,
   Linda  Fulton  and  husband  Jim  of  El Paso, and Joe Ezzell and wife
   Debbie  of  Irving;  great  grandchildren  Cory,  David,  Daniel, Joe,

   HERNANDEZ,  EUSEBIO  JR.,  62, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001. He
   was  a lifelong resident of El Paso, Texas. Mr. Hernandez retired from
   Asarco. He was preceded in death by two of his sons, Eusebio and David
   Hernandez. He is survived by his wife Josefina Hernandez; sons, Marcos
   and  Danny  Hernandez;  daughters,  Lourdes R. and Sonia L. Hernandez;
   brothers, Manuel, Vicente, Arturo, and Ramon Hernandez; sisters, Trini
   Mendes,  Sofia  Lazarin,  and  Lorenza Uranga; and five grandchildren.
   Visitation  will  be Tuesday from 4 - 9 pm with a rosary at 7:30 pm at
   Sunset  Funeral Home West- Chapel of Remembrance, located at 480 North
   Resler.  Funeral mass will be celebrated at Saint Jude Catholic Church

   KMETZSCH,  HELEN L. 76, passed away Sunday April 8, 2001. She had been
   a resident of El Paso since 1960. Member of the Church of Jesus Christ
   of  Latter  Day  Saints  4th  Ward,  1212 Sumac; past president of the
   Daughters  of  Utah  Pioneers;  and  was  a  retired registered nurse.
   Preceded  in  death by her daughter Karen Jefferson. Survivors include
   her  husband  Melvin  Kmetzsch  of El Paso; daughters Rosemary Jacoby,
   Bridgeport,  NE  and  Connie  Neria  of  El  Paso; son Jim Kmetzsch of
   Bradenton,  FL; sisters Faye Tubbs and Louaine Hadfield both of Malad,
   ID;  7  grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Mrs. Kmetzsch will be
   in  state  Tuesday  from  6:00  -  9:00 P.M. at Harding Orr & McDaniel
   Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:30 A.M. at the
   Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 4th Ward, 1212 Sumac with

   McCROSKEY,  DOROTHY M. 81, passed away Monday, April 9, 2001. Resident
   of  El  Paso  for  54  years.  She  was a member of St. Paul Methodist
   Church.  Preceded  in  death by her husband Ray McCroskey and grandson
   David  Valentino. Survived by son Jim McCroskey, daughters Julie Kelly
   and   Karen   Valentino,  5  grandchildren  and  1  great  grandchild.
   Visitation  for  Mrs.  McCroskey will be held Tuesday, April 10, 2001,
   from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Restlawn Funeral Home. Graveside Service will

   MEDINA,  FELIPE  80,  beloved  husband, father, grandfather, and great
   grandfather  passed away Sunday, April 8, 2001 in a local hospital. He
   was  a  retired custodian with the Ysleta Independent School District.
   Mr.  Medina  was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World
   War  II.  He  is  survived  by  his beloved wife of 58 years, Mercedes
   Medina.  Children  and  their  spouses,  Irma Chavira (Eugenio), Marco
   Antonio  Medina  (Bertha Moncada) Corina Molinar (Jose), Dolores Aosno
   (Daniel),  Melanie  Reyes  (Salvador),  Valente Medina (Celia), Susana
   Medina  (Nellio  Santos), Noemi Orozco (Ruben), and Cecilia Barrientos
   (Joe). 25 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be
   Wednesday  from  2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home - Carolina
   Chapel.  Recitation  of  the  Rosary  will  be  Wednesday at 7 p.m. at

   STEVENSON,  ELIZABETH  C. YOUNG 93, went to be with the Lord, April 7,
   2001  at  the  New  Mexico  Veterans  Center. She is survived by Denny
   Graves  of Augusta, West Virginia, Jeanne Howard, formerly of El Paso,
   Texas,  and  Joan  Harris of Las Cruces, New Mexico, two sons, William
   Ross  Graves  and  Lonnie  Richard.  Graves preceded her in death. She
   leaves  her  three (3) children, twelve (12) grandchildren, and twenty
   six  great  grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Graveside

   a  local  hospital.  She  was a resident of El Paso for 50 years. Mrs.
   Godinez  was  preceded  in  death  by her son, Juan Antonio ''Johnny''
   Godinez.  She  is survived by her husband, Jesus Godinez. Sons, George
   Godinez,  Ruben  Godinez,  Aredo  Godinez and Jesus Godinez Jr. Jr. 11

   Hussmann,  Anne  Miles passed away Monday, April 9, 2001. She had been
   an  El  Paso  resident  since  1959.  She  was  active  as a wild life
   preservation  lecturer,  a  bird rehabilitator and sportswoman, and an
   involved  member  of  her  church, Saint Francis on the Hill Episcopal
   Church,  where  she served on the Vestry, Alter Guild and as a manager
   of  their  thrift shop. Anne was the Director of the Chihuahuan Desert
   Wildlife  Rescue  Association of El Paso, President of Coronado Ladies
   Go  Association,  Director  of  Colonial  Dames of America, and active
   member   of  the  Trans-  Pecos  Audubon  Society.  She  won  go  club
   championships  at  both  Coronado Country Club and Vista Hills Country
   Club.  Anne  was  also  President  of the Board of Trustees and PTA at
   Saint  Clement's Episcopal Parish School where she was assistant coach
   of  the  girl's  basketball team. Anne graduated as Valedictorian from
   Summerville  High  School in Summerville, South Carolina and was named
   to  the  All-  State  Basketball  team.  She  was graduated from Salem
   College   in   Winston-Salem,  North  Carolina  and  attended  Medical
   Technician  School  at  the  Medical  College  of  South Carolina. Her
   survivors  include  her  son  and daughter-in-law, Amy A. and Harry L.
   Hussmann  IV,  daughter  and son-in-law, Anne H. and Mark M. Mitchell,
   all  of El Paso; sister Louisa Miles Montgomery of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.;
   and  four  grandchildren,  Robert  Thomas  Hussmann, Margaret Caroline
   Hussmann,  Calder  Heyward Hussmann and Ripon James Mitchell. Memorial
   services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, at Saint Francis on the Hill
   Episcopal  Church.  In  lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be

   LOMBRANA, VICENTE SR., 70, passed away Monday, April 9, 2001. He was a
   lifelong  resident  of  El  Paso.  He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran and
   retired  Police  Officer  with  the  City  of  El  Paso, member of St.
   Joseph's  Catholic  Church.  Survived  by  his wife Maria Elena, sons,
   Vicente,  David  and  Troy,  daughters,  Yolanda,  Hilda  and  Monica,
   brothers  Ildefonso  and  Raul,  and 9 grandchildren. Private services
   will be held.
   
   
   LONGORIA,  EVELINE  KARIN  61, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2001 in El
   Paso,  Texas. Mrs. Longoria was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
   Survivors  include  her husband, Adelaido Longoria, sons, Roland Abert
   and  his  wife  Lee  of Houston, Texas, Humberto Longoria and his wife
   Lily,  and  Richardo  Longoria  of  Dallas,  Texas, daughter, Patricia
   Beacham  and  her husband Dwight of Dallas, Texas and 9 grandchildren.
   Visitation  for  Mrs.  Longoria will be from 6 to 9 PM Wednesday April
   11,  2001  at  Sunset Funeral Home-N.E. located at 4631 Hondo Pass, El
   Paso, Texas. Graveside service will be at 9:30 A.M. Thursday April 12,
   2001  at  Fort  Bliss  National  Cemetery.  Pastor  Ciesielski will be
   officiating.
   
   
   REAGAN,  OPAL  ELIZABETH was born September 27, 1911 in Sierra Blanca,
   Texas.  She  married Duffie Raymond Reagan in El Paso on May 29, 1929.
   To  that  union  were  born  three  children:  Wesley  C. Reagan, June
   Elizabeth  Roe,  and  Fred  C.  Reagan.  She is also survived by eight
   grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, and three great great
   grandchildren. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Barney Roe, and
   her daughter-in-law, Linda Reagan. She leaves some brothers-in-law and
   sisters-in-law  with  whom  she was very close, a number of nieces and
   nephews,  and  a  host of friends. Mrs. Reagan lived in Tucumcari, New
   Mexico,  until retirement in 1969 when she returned to the home of her
   youth  in  El Paso. She lived here until after her husband's death and
   moved  to Montara, California to be with her daughter. Later she lived
   in  retirement  residences  until  her death on April 5.2001 She was a
   member  of  Sunrise  Acres  Church  of  Christ. Her funeral will be on
   Thursday, April 12, with visitation at 10 a.m. and the funeral service
   at 11 a.m. It will be at Restlawn Funeral Home, 4848 Alps Street.

   local  hospital. Longtime resident of El Paso and member of St. Piux X
   Catholic  Church. Survived by husband Pablo G. Aguirre, sons Pablo C.,
   Ruben  C.  and Armando C. Aguirre, daughters Bertha A. Tagle, Georgina
   A.   Gaytan  and  Hermelinda  A.  Duran,  19  grandchildren,  2  great
   grandchildren,  brothers  Antonio,  Aredo and Daniel Cisneros, sisters
   Bertha Sifuentes, Magdalena Estrada and Margarita Garcia. Mrs. Aguirre

   Bell, Clarence H. "Bud" born on August 4, 1921, died on April 10, 2001
   in  San  Antonio.  He  was  born  in  Marfa, TX, grew up on a ranch in
   Valentine,  TX,  and  later attended Schreiner College in Kerrville. A
   Veteran  of  both  WWII  and Korea, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel
   from  the US Air Force. Bud was an active sheet shooter, member of the
   Texas Skeet Shooting Association, past President of the National Skeet
   Shooting  Association,  and veteran of the All-American Team. A former
   resident  of  El  Paso,  before  retiring  to  Kerrville  in 1994. His
   parents,  Clarence  Leslie and Lina Hunter Bell; and brothers, Charles
   William  Bell, and Tommie Neill Bell; preceded him in death. Survivors
   include  his  wife  of 54 years, Helen Elizabeth ''Betty'' Bell; sons,
   Leslie  H.  Bell  and his wife, Patricia, of San Antonio, and James T.
   Bell  and  his  wife, Laurel, of Elgin, Illinois; grandchildren, Brian
   Russell  Bell,  Kevin Patrick Bell, Erin Benay Bell, Sean Hunter Bell,
   and Alexander McKenzie Bell; sisters, Jeanette Turner and her husband,
   Mallie,  of Sonora, TX, and Judy Ann Walker and her husband, Frank, of

   COLE,  ARIS  R. 81, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001. A resident of
   El  Paso  since  1962.  Mr.  Cole  was  a United States Army Major and
   retired  from  Civil Service. He was a veteran of WWII and Korea being
   decorated with the Silver Star. Mr. Cole is survived by his wife of 55
   years,  Frances  I.  Cole,  son  Russell  D. Cole of Phoenix, Arizona,
   daughter Linda C. Deen of Kearny, Arizona, three grandchildren and two
   great  grandchildren. Graveside service will be held Friday, April 13,
   2001  at  11:00  A.M.  at  Ft.  Bliss  National Cemetery with military

   EVANS,  HARRIET  OWSLEY  passed  away Tuesday, April 10, 2001. She was
   born  in  Port  Townsend, Washington, and spent her childhood in Walla
   Walla,  Washington. She attended Washington State University where she
   graduated  with a degree in Economics. Harriet was an active member of
   Alpha  Gamma Delta Fraternity. She married John T. Evans in July 1937.
   Harriet  supported John during his 31 years with the Army. Since 1961,
   they  have  made their home in El Paso. Harriet has been active in the
   El  Paso community as a member of El Paso Women's Club and the Regular
   Army Wives Club at Fort Bliss. She was also a past President of P.E.O.
   Chapter N, a board member of Community Concert Association, and a Paul
   Harris  Fellow  in  the Rotary Club of El Paso. She is survived by her
   husband,  Col.  (ret)  John  T.  Evans  of 64 years, a daughter, Penny
   Bettas of Pullman, Washington, a son, John T. Evans, Jr. and his wife,
   Martha  Evans  of  Potomac, Maryland and six grandchildren. Visitation
   will  be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12th at Kaster- Maxon &

   hospital.  He  was  a  lifelonq  resident of El Paso and was a US Army
   Veteran of the Korea Conflict. He was the owner of Arthur's Industrial
   Sewing  Machine  Company and helped many local businesses get started.
   Preceded  in death by brothers George, Al and Jimmy Mowad. Survived by
   wife  Audrey J. Mowad, sons Arthur H. and wife Mary Lou Mowad, Gary G.
   and wife Lou Mowad, Alan and wife Ginger Mowad, 3 grandchildren, John,
   James  and  Megan, brothers Eddie and wife Eva Mowad and Howard Mowad.

   PETERSEN, HARRY THOMAS (TOM) El Paso attorney 54, died Monday April 9,
   2001,  from pancreatic cancer. He was born in Bloomington, Illinois on
   December  1st,  1946,  and haslived in El Paso since 1962. He attended
   Cathedral  High  School, St. Michael's College of Santa Fe, and earned
   his  law  degree from Marquette University Law School. Tom served as a
   lieutenant  in  the U.S. Army. He practiced law in El Paso for over 25
   years  during which time he was an Assistant District Attorney, served
   7  years  on  the El Paso Bar Association Ethics Committee, and was an
   avid  supporter of 'Common Cause', a bipartisan group dedicated solely
   to  fighting  for  congressional ethics reform. Tom is survived by his
   wife, Irma Castaneda, his parents, Phyllis and Harry Petersen, and his
   sister,  Phyllis  Ann Petersen. A memorial service will be held at St.
   Patrick's  Cathedral  on Tuesday, April 17 at 3:30 p.m. A gathering of
   friends  will  be held immediately following the service at 1011 North

   WELLS,  ELLEN  A  was  born  March 18, 1918 in Cyril, Oklahoma. She is
   survived  by  her  husband,  Flake  H. Wells, Jr., whom she married in
   1938.  They have lived in El Paso since 1935. They have four children,
   a son Flake H. Wells III, daughter- in-law La Dawn and three daughters
   Peggy  Goss, son-in-law Paul, Jackie Erwin, son-in- law Bill and Linda
   Blair,  son-in-law  Scott  along with numerous grandchildren and great
   grandchildren.  Ellen  died  Wednesday,  April  11,  2001 after a long
   struggle  with  cancer.  Graveside service will be held for family and
   friends  Saturday,  April  14, 2001 at 11:00 A.M. at Memory Gardens of
   the  Valley  Cemetery  with  Rev.  Ray  Walker officiating. In lieu of

   Brown,  Mary  Nell 79, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001. A resident
   of  El  Paso for 35 years, she remained active in the Episcopal Church
   and  served  in  numerous civic and church organizations. Particularly
   active  in  the  Memorial  Park  area,  she  was  instrumental in that
   neighborhood's  recognition  as a State Historical Area. She served as
   Executive  Secretary  for  the  Northeast  YMCA,  was  a member of the
   Memorial  Park  Improvement Association and a member of Friends of the
   Memorial  Park Library Association. For many years she custom-designed
   and  made  fine  jewelry  for  sale  throughout  the Southwest. She is
   preceded  in  death  by  her  husband  of 41 years, Pete Brown. She is
   survived  by  two sisters, Jean Glover of Roswell, New Mexico, and Ann
   Applegarth  of Eugene, Oregon. Her children, Thomas Taeger of El Paso,
   Robin  Pepin  of  San  Jose,  California, and Michael Brown of Bethel,
   Alaska. Mary Nell had 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Memorial

   BRYSON, THOMAS ELWOOD 83, passed away on Sunday, April 8, 2001 and was
   a  resident of El Paso since 1956. Mr. Bryson was a Seaman First Class
   and  a  WWII  Veteran of the U.S. Navy, a Purple Heart Recipient and a
   member  of  the  Church  of  Jesus  Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is
   survived  by  his  brother, Samuel Bryson; sister, LoRen Allred; seven
   nieces  and  three  nephews.  Burial  will  be  in Fort Bliss National
   Cemetery with Military Honors accorded.
   
   
   LANIER,  BERTHA  DIMELER  82,  passed  away  April  10, 2001 and was a
   resident  of  El  Paso  for  49  years. She was born in Princeton, New
   Jersey and was a veteran of the U.S. Army with the Army Nurse Corps as
   a  1st Lieutenant during WWII. She is preceded in death by her husband
   of 48 years, Tex B. Lanier and great- grandson, Michael Winslett. Mrs.
   Lanier  is  survived  by  her  daughters,  Merene  Davidson  and Karen
   Charlton;  son, Tex D. Lanier and wife, Joan; grandchildren, Lorraine,

   MIKAELIAN,  PETER  ANTHONY 45, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001. He
   was  a  longtime  resident  of  El  Paso,  a  school teacher at Benito
   Martinez  Elementary  School  in  the  SISD. He ws also a professional
   singer  and  comedian.  Survived  by  wife: Mary Mikaelian, daughters:
   Brittany   Mikaelian   and   Megan   Mikaelian,  brothers:  Soren  and

   WHIGHAM, MSG W.J. U.S. ARMY, RETIRED, 74, passed away Monday, April 9,
   2001 in El Paso, Tx. MSG Whigham had been a resident of El Paso for 30
   years  and  was  a memberof the Catholic Church. While on active duty,
   MSG  Whigham  served  in  the  Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict. He
   retired  after  more  than  25  years of service to his country. He is
   survived by his wife, Virginia Whigham. Step-daughter, Beth Parsley of
   Gonzalez,  Texas.  Sisters,  Leeda  Flowers, Geneva Baughmann, Francis
   Henry and Catherine Reimer. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 p.m. to 9

   Carter, Alva Byrd was born May 4, 1904, in Lake Arthur, Louisiana, the
   sixth  of  nine  children  of  Charles F. and Dora Ann Carter. He died
   Tuesday,  April  10,  2001. He was preceded in death by his wife of 78
   years,  Minnie  Lee Abbott Carter and a grandson, Daniel Curtis Black.
   He  is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Marie and her husband, Gordon
   Black  of  El  Paso.  His  grandchildren  include  Diana  Lee Black of
   Woodbridge,  Va.,  John  Carter  and  his  wife, Debra Black and Linda
   Louise  Black  of  El Paso. His great grandchildren include Shauna Lee
   and  her  husband,  Walter Bryant of Roanoke, Va., and Travis Hotop of
   Woodbridge,  Va.,  Jody Lynn Black of Austin, Texas, Paul Carter Black
   of  San  Marcus, Texas, Randall Curtis Black and Alanna Marie Black of
   El  Paso.  Cienna  Lee  Bryant  of  Roanoke  is  his  only great-great
   grandchild.  He  is  also survived by his sister, Mrs. Viola McCain of
   Richmond,  Tx.  And  his  sisters-in-law,  Helen Whitfield, Mrs. Joyce
   (Madie) Abbott of Houston, Tx. and Mrs. Patrick (Wilda) Abbott of Lake
   Charles, Louisiana. Also numerous nieces and nephews including, Elaine
   and  her husband, Claude Mitchell, Mrs. R.D. Carter (Dora), Bob Carter
   of Houston, Randall and Ruth Mayson, John and Kathy Mayson of Houston,
   Ross  and  Bob  Abbott  of  Houston,  Terry Don and Phyllis Abbott and
   Delwyn  Abbott. He was affectionately known to everyone as ''Cap''. At
   age 18 he became a ''roughneck'' in the oiields of Louisiana, but most
   of  his  working  life was with the Humble Pipe Line Company in Texas.
   When  he  retired,  he and Minnie moved to Anthony, TX. in 1958, where
   they  made  many good friends through their work and activities in the
   community,  especially  in  the  Anthony  United Methodist Church, the
   Order  of  the  Eastern  Star,  Chapter #37, the Rainbow Girls and the
   Anthony  Masonic  Lodge.  For  many  years  he  operated Western Hills
   Company in Anthony. Flying his plane was one of his greatest joys. The
   Canutillo  School  Board  honored  his work on their board by naming a
   street ''Cap Carter Drive''. In 1982, they moved into White Acres Good
   Samaritan Village where they entered into the activities and made many
   friends.  He  will  be greatly missed by those who lovingly called him
   ''Cap'',  ''Daddy'' and ''PawPaw''. The Anthony Masonic Lodge #48 AF &
   AM  held  a private graveside service. A Memorial Service will be held
   Monday,  April  16,  2001  at  11:00  A.M. at Anthony United Methodist
   Church,  Reverend  Curtis  Bentley  officiating.  In  lieu of flowers,

   DIAZ, MARIA M. 72, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2001 in El Paso. She
   was  a  resident of El Paso since 1956 and was a member of Our Lady or
   Sorrows Catholic Church. Mrs. Diaz is survived by her husband, Antonio

   will  be  Sunday  from  2  p.m.  to 9 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home -
   Carolina  Chapel. Recitation of the Rosary will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at
   Hillcrest Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady
   of  Sorrows  Catholic  Church.  Pallbearers will be Aonso Orozco, Juan
   Orozco,  Juan Benito Diaz, Antonio Diaz, Jr., Christopher Matthew Diaz
   and  Victor  Ernewayn.  Interment  will  be  in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

   HALL,  DAVID  LYNN,  SR., 63, passed away Wednesday April 11, 2001. He
   had  been  a resident of El Paso for 47 years. Mr. Hall was a U.T.E.P.
   Professor  of Philosophy and was recognized as a scholar and author of
   many  publications.  Survivors  include  his wife Stephanie Hall; sons
   Christopher B. Hall and David L. Hall; sister Julianne Navar. Memorial
   contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
