  JENKINS
  
  George Marion Jenkins, 87, Rockwood, died Arpil 28, 1986, in Somerset
  Community Hospital.  Born March 23, 1899, in Bellevue, Ohio, son of the
  late Arthur M. and Mary (German) Smallwood.  He was adopted at the age of 5
  by his stepfather, Charles H. Jenkins.  Survived by his widow, the former
  Marie Wood; two children: David M., married to the former Anne R. Payne,
  Merysdale; and Mary G., wife of Robert L. Martin, Fort Leonardwood, Mo.;
  seven grandchidren.  His death ended a marriage union of 44 years. Member
  of the Eight Ohio Volunteers in 1916 and served on the Mexican Border under
  Gen. John J. Pershing; served in the U.S. Army during World War I.  After he
  was discharged in the 1919, he became a professional musician.  In the
  mid-1920's he made two U.S. tours with the John Philip Sousa Band.  He
  enlisted in 1930 in the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, D.C.  Member of that
  band for 25 years.  Member of the F.& A. M. Lodge 83, Akron, Ohio; Scottish
  Rite of Washington, D.C.
  
  Life member of the Alman Shrine, Washington, D.C. Member of the Fleet
  Reserve Association and the S.A.R. Life member of the 37th Divison Veterans
  Association; member of the Meyersdale American Legion and the Rockwood
  V.F.W.  Member of the Musicians Local 161 of Washington D.C.  Member of
  several genealogical societies.  Descendant of Col. James Smallwood who
  first came to Maryland in 1664.  Also a Mayflower descendant.  Friends will
  be received in the Leckemby Funeral Home Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. Masonic
  service at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  Graveside service Thursday at 1
  p.m. in Arlington National Cemetery.
