     Gloria Walker Wood, 84, a resident of Hood River, died at Hood River Care 
Center, surrounded by her family, on Monday, Nov. 8, 2004.
     She was born July 5, 1920, in Nampa, Idaho, the only child of George W. 
and Alma Beth (Firkins) Walker. She grew up in Nampa, La Grande and Boise. 
During her high school years, she enjoyed working beside her father raising 
and showing Irish Setters, including a favorite, named Lady. She graduated 
from St. Theresa Academy in 1938.
     She married Robert R. Wood on April 24, 1940, in Boise, and they moved to 
Portland where he worked in the shipyards. He enlisted in the service, and she 
returned to Boise.
     After the war she and her family lived in various cities throughout 
Oregon, Idaho and Nevada. They eventually settled in Stockton, Calif., where 
they owned and operated a motel. Upon retirement they moved to Lincoln City, 
and in 1995, settled in Hood River to be with family.
     She enjoyed reading, baking and caring for those around her. She was a 
consummate hostess. Most of all, she loved being surrounded by family and 
friends. She was a member of Riverside Community Church.
     She is survived by her husband Robert, son Leonard and his wife Janet, 
granddaughters Julie Wilson and her husband Shane, and Jennifer Wood, all of 
Hood River.
     Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 16, at Riverside Community 
Church with Rev. Susan Princehouse officiating. Private cremation was held at 
The Dalles Win-quatt Crematory with Spencer, Libby and Powell Funeral Home in 
care of arrangements.
