MARTHA ROBERTS, PIONEER, PASSES

Martha C. Roberts, native daughter of Jackson county who had lived her
entire life in this district, died early this morning at her home, 40
Crater Lake avenue, having been in failing health for the past few years.
The body is at Perl's Funeral Home pending funeral arrangements which will
be announced tomorrow with a complete obituary.

Mrs. Roberts was born in Jacksonville, November 4, 1866, her parents being
the pioneer James S. and Martha B. Howard. The Howards came to the county
in 1860, having made the trip by ox team.

Mrs. Roberts' only son, Bernard Roberts of Los Angeles, came to Medford a
few days ago to be with his mother.

MARTHA ROBERTS FUNERAL SERVICE AT 2 P.M. FRIDAY

Funeral services for Martha C. Roberts, 77, native daughter of Jackson
county who passed away at a local hospital Wednesday after a brief illness,
will be conducted from Perl Funeral Home Friday at 2 p.m. Rev. Harry
Hansen, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate, and
entombment will take place in the Medford Memorial Mausoleum. Friends are
respectfully invited to attend the services.

Pall bearers will be H. H. Pringle, V. W. Hammond, F. O. Stinson, Clem
Parker, N. A. Mead and G. A. Roberts.

Mrs. Roberts was born at Jacksonville on Nov. 4, 1866. Her parents were
James S. and Martha B. Howard, who came to Jacksonville by ox team and
covered wagon in 1860. The family moved to Medford in 1884. On Sept. 25,
1887, she was united in marriage to James E. Roberts, who passed away in
1933.

Joining the First Presbyterian church of Medford in 1886 when Rev. M. A.
Williams was pastor, Mrs. Roberts was one of the early members of the
group.

Besides a host of friends, she leaves one son, W. Bernard Roberts and two
grandchildren, Patricia and Robert Roberts.
