Mr. Ward died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Fort Worth. He was born March 22, 1925,
at Maxwell, Okla.

Survivors include his wife, Nadine Ward, of the home; one son, Michael Ward
and wife Karen, Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Glenda Jolene Lee and husband
Kenneth, Iowa Park, and Patricia Ann Geer and husband Leo, Westminster, Texas;
one sister, Joyce Gish and husband Berlin "Okie," Oklahoma City; five
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren.

MARIAN JACOBUS

ADA — Memorial services for Marian Francis Jacobus, 94, Ada, will be held in
California.

Mrs. Jacobus died May 26, 2004, at Ada. She was born July 11, 1909, at
Lemoore, Calif. to Burton and Francis Rhinehart Moyer.

She graduated from Lemoore High School and San Jose State College with a B.S.
degree.

She taught school at Hanford, Calif., for 37 years. She played the piano at
Hanford First Methodist Church, where she was a member. She moved to Ada from
Santa Clara, Calif., in 2002.

She married Gerald L. Jacobus in 1932 at Lemoore. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by a sister.

Survivors include two sons, Burton Leland Jacobus, Hanford, and James Allen
Jacobus, Santa Clara; a daughter, Barbara Arrington, Ada; five grandchildren;
and seven great-grandchildren.

BOOKIE BALLARD

ADA — Services for Bobby Deon "Bookie" Ballard, 69, Ada, are 11 a.m. Wednesday
at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. George Vance and Mrs. Mickey Rice

p.m. today at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Ballard died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at his home. He was born May 18,
1935, at Ada to W. E. "Bill" and Flora Jones Ballard. He attended school at
Irving and Ada Junior High.

Mr. Ballard operated a grocery store in Ada, and in 1968, he and his wife Pat
were the co-administrators of Ballard Manor Nursing Home in Allen, and he
continued to be the vice president of Ballard Nursing Home Corp. until 1986.
Later, he was a truck driver for Delbert Taylor Produce and Tom E. Boggs until
his retirement.

He married Patricia Howell May 16, 1959. He was affiliated with the Church of
God.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Virgie Weems, Norma
Jean and Ruth Ballard.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Ballard, of the home; two sons, Michael Dean
Ballard and wife Robin, Tupelo, and William Edgar "Bill" Ballard and wife
Charlotte, Asher; one daughter, Deborah Ellison and friend Joe Mathis, Calvin;
three sisters, Willie Reed and husband Merle, Ada, Rita Park and husband Jim,
Sasakwa, and Yvonne Pruitt and husband, Dexter, Ada; one brother, Eddy Ballard
and wife Merle, Ada; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Bearers are Vonnita Lynn Ruiz, Michael Scott Ballard, Jacob Lee Ballard, Paul

KONAWA — Services for Essie Mae Emery, 80, Konawa, are 11 a.m. Saturday at

Mrs. Emery died May 31, 2004, at her home. She was born Feb. 11, 1924, at
Boswell, Okla. to Paul Whitehead and Clara Alfred.

She and Lincoln Emery were married Nov. 26, 1996, at Stonewall. He died May
26, 2000.

Mrs. Emery had resided in the Konawa area for 50 years and was retired from
Konawa City Hall where she worked as a secretary. She was a Baptist and a
member of Mount Zion Christian Church.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Geraldine
Osborne.

Survivors include three daughters, B.J. Potts and husband Billy, Konawa,
Bertha Dirk, Bethany, and Lynn Cofield and husband Freddie, Oklahoma City; her
mother, Clara Alfred, Konawa; a brother, Eugene "Lucky" White, Oklahoma City;
12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

KATY, Texas — Graveside services for Charlotte Herrin Scott, 73, Katy,
formerly of Ada, Okla., are 11 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery, the

Mrs. Scott died Feb. 1, 2004, at Houston. She was born April 14, 1930, at Ada
to Cyrus T. and Eitheal Caperton Herrin. She attended grade school at Ada and
was a graduate of Ada High School.

She and Robert D. Scott were married Feb. 22, 1957, at Wichita, Kan. He died
July 23, 1984, at Houston.

Mrs. Scott was employed in the real estate industry and was a member of Second
Baptist Church, Houston.

Survivors include a brother, Mark Herrin, Houston; a nephew, Jason Herrin,
Houston; a niece, Lisa Vaquedano, Oklahoma City; a sister-in-law, Doris
Herrin, Cookson; and two cousins, Doris "Billie" Cole, Fort Scott, Kan., and

TERRY BLACKBURN

ADA — A memorial service for Terry Olney Blackburn, 62,  will be held at a
future date.

Mr. Blackburn died May 17, 2004, aboard ship in the Mediterranean between
Turkey and Crete. He was born Nov. 25, 1942, in Ada to J.B. and Jane Kerr
Blackburn.

He spent his childhood in New Jersey and attended Bucknell University and the
University of Illinois, graduating with a degree in structural engineering. He
served in the 8th Army as an ammunitions officer in South Korea and was
discharged in 1971.

He was employed by S.T. Peterson and Co. in New Jersey as an engineer and
draftsman. He opened his own business, Blackburn Engineering,  in Princeton,
N.J. After merging with an architectural firm, he renamed the business
Blackburn Engineering and Associates.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, of the home; a son, James Olney Blackburn,
and daughter-in-law, Diedra Carole Blackburn; a daughter, Donna Marie
Blackburn, and her husband, Dan McKay; a stepson, Cory Unkel, and his wife,
Carrie Unkel; and four grandchildren, Dustin, Jacob, Adam and Jessica.

ADA — Services for Doris Deen Rice, 74, Ada, are 10 a.m. Saturday at the
Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Mickey Keith and Bud Ross will

Mrs. Rice died  June 2, 2004, at her home. She was born September 22, 1929, at
Stonewall to Dewey "Med" and Lela Jones Wyche. She lived in this area most of
her life and was a graduate of McLish High School.

She and Olen "Dal" Rice were married Nov. 26, 1948, at Ada.

Mrs. Rice was employed as a Bottle Inspector with Brockway Glass Company,
retiring in December 1991, at the time of the company’s closing. She was also
a former employee of Blue Bell and was a member of the Evangelistic Temple.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ray Wyche and Tommy Wyche; and a
sister, Vonda Black.

Survivors include her husband, Dal Rice, of the home; a son, Jim Rice and wife
Rhonda, Ada; two daughters, Dana Smith and husband Gary, Ada and Carol Thomas
and husband Bud, Grayland, Wash.; a sister, Reba Wright, Woodward; three
grandchildren, Chad Smith, Frisco, Texas, Lindsay Watkins and Jamin Rice, both
of Ada; a stepgrandson, Brandon Chad Smith, Bixby; two great-grandchildren,

ADA — Services for Beulah Mae Smith McGalliard, 89, Ada, are 11:30 a. m.
Saturday at the Criswell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial follows at Rosedale

Mrs. McGalliard died Thursday at a local hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1914,
at Fitzhugh to John and Julia Kennedy Thomas. She had lived in the Ada area
all of her life.

She and Glenn S. Smith were married in 1933. He died in 1970. She later
married Odus McGalliard Feb. 10, 1973. He died June 23, 1991.

Mrs. McGalliard was active with the Chickasaw Senior Citizens Center and
received several awards for her volunteer work. She was a member of the
"Chickasaw Cats," the Good Sam’s Club and Ada Hobos Club.

She was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Kay McGalliard Tucker; two
sisters, Jewell Fields and Johnnie Cox; and a sister-in-law, Billie Smith.

Survivors include two sons, Glenn T. Smith and wife Martha, Albuquerque, N.M.,
and Eddie Smith and wife Debbie, Choctaw; a daughter, Anna Lee Langenberg and
husband Robert, Montgomery, Ala.; two stepchildren, Don McGalliard and wife
Elouise, Madisonville, Texas, and Jackie Henry, Sulphur; a stepson-in-law,
Delbert Tucker, Ada; three sisters, Mary Jo Green and husband J. L., Ada, Edna
Hernandez, Oxnard, Calif., and Betty Lionberger, Camarillo, Calif.; a brother,

WILLIAM BERGER JR.

VENTURA, Calif. — William Woodrow "Woody" Berger Jr., 71, Ventura, died May
21, 2004, at a Las Vegas, Nev., hospital. He was born May 29, 1932, at Vanoss,
Okla., to William Woodrow Berger Sr. and Vergie Mae Newby Berger. He moved
from Oklahoma to California in 1942 with his parents and they settled in
Ventura.

He attended school in Oklahoma City,Okla., and various schools in Ventura,
graduating with the Ventura High School class of 1951. While at Ventura High,
he was junior class president and a member of the track team.

In 1951 Mr. Berger enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country as an
airman on board the USS Philippine Sea during the Korean conflict, becoming a
member of the Golden Dragons. He was honorably discharged in 1954.

After returning to Ventura after his military service, he worked for Arden
Dairy, Domestic Cleaners and Unique Cleaners. After completing airline
training in 1961, he moved to Las Vegas and remained there for his entire
airline career with Western Airlines, followed by Delta Airlines when they
merged. He worked as a special agent and retired in 1994 after 32 years with
the airlines.

He married Melba "Millie" Moffitt June 15, 1972. She died in 1980.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Vergie Berger; his
sister Joyce Berger Eck in 1969; and his grandparents, former Vanoss shop
owners Charles L. and Ida Lee (Hill) Berger; and former Ada residents and
farmers in Galey, Jesse "Mage" Robert and Bertha White Newby.

Survivors include his brother, Jerry Berger; his girlfriend Lidia, Ventura;
his sister Roberta Berger Traylor and husband Hays, Ventura; brother-in-law
Bob Eck and wife Carole, Palm Springs; aunts Christine Berger Dacon, Oklahoma
City, and Cleva Berger, Ventura;  nephews and nieces, Dave Eck and wife
Dorothy,Villa Park, Karen Eck Stone and husband Dave, Newport Beach, Brad Eck,
San Diego, Melissa Cameron Gooch and husband Bill, Newbury Park, Dyer Cameron
and wife Dianna, Phoenix, Ariz., Debbie Berger, Oak Park, Jim Berger, Ventura,
Jennifer Griffith Moore and husband Jonathan, Ventura, Joy Griffith Stanford
and husband Michael, Oxnard, John Griffith and wife Victoria, Ventura, and
Pfc. Matthew Traylor, U.S. Marine Corps, currently serving in Okinawa, Japan;
and many grand-nieces, grand-nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

A celebration of his life was held June 5 at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura,
with the Rev. Jim Wells officiating. Private inurnment will take place at Ivy
Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.

of the American Cancer Society, 250 W. Citrus Grove Lane, Suite 200, Oxnard,

BERTIE CLARK

Services for Bertie Mae Clark, 84, Konawa, were June 5 at Church of Christ in
Konawa, Richard Winters officiating.

Mrs. Clark died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Konawa.

She was born May 22, 1920, at Vian, Okla., to William and Sadie Ross Bolin.

Mrs. Clark worked for several years at Konawa Public Schools as a custodian,
and at Blue Bell in Seminole as a seamstress.

She was a member of Church of Christ in Konawa.

She married George William "Bill" Clark March 29, 1941, at McCurtain. She was
preceded in death by her husband, George "Bill" Clark in 1989; a son, David
Clark, and a grandson, Phillip Scott Clark, both in 1997.

Survivors include sons George Clark Jr, and Herman Clark, both of Konawa; and
Ernest Clark, Nashville, Tenn.; daughters Shirley Boren and Juanita Moore,
both of Konawa, and Sadie Villines, Wolf; and brothers Mitchell Boren, Marble
City; Richard Bolin, Fort Smith, Ark.; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-
grandchildren.

JUNIOR SCROGGINS

ADA — Services for Junior L. "Doc" Scroggins, 78, Ada, are 10 a.m. Monday at
Trinity Baptist Church, Dr. Rusty Fuller and the Rev. David Gray will
officiate. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 3 to 5
p.m. at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mr. Scroggins died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born
Sept. 28, 1925, at Ada to Robert Lee and Irene Bingham Scroggins. He lived in
the Ada area all of his life. He attended Cedar Grove Elementary School and
Francis High School.

He married Betty Gale Oct. 9, 1948, at Ada.

Mr. Scroggins was a service repairman for OG&E, retiring in 1980 after 36
years of service. He was also a volunteer fireman with the Ada Fire
Department, retiring after 20 years of service.

He was affiliated with Trinity Baptist Church. He was also a member of the
OG&E Pioneer Club. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed camping and playing
dominoes. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Betty, of the home; two daughters, Janet Murray
and husband Paul, Fort Worth, Texas, and Karen Helton, Pauls Valley; four
grandchildren, Angi Rogers and husband Kelvin, Melissa Knight and husband
Ethan, all of Fort Worth, Kim McCoy and husband Eric, and Zechariah Shippey,
all of Pauls Valley; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous other family and
friends.

Bearers are Floyce Lanier, Del Tollett, James Briggs, Paul Williams, Chester
Sneed III and Willie Dansby.

Honorary bearers are Kenneth Roberts, Charley Floyd and Cletis Waters.

ADA — Services for Ora Lee Plunkett Mettry, 89,  Ada, are 11 a.m. Thursday at
Criswell Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. J. T. Roberts officiating. Committal service
will be at 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery,  Ardmore.

Mrs. Mettry died June 6, 2004, at a local nursing facility. She was born May
19, 1915, at Scranton, Ark., to George Washington and Beulah Blake Colburn
Plunkett. She attended school at Weleetka, graduating from Weleetka High
School.

She received a degree in education and home economics from Northeastern at
Miami and received a master’s degree in education from Oklahoma University.
Mrs. Mettry taught third and fourth grade.

She and Charles R. Mettry were married July 9, 1946, at Paris, Texas. He
preceded her in death March 2, 1972, at Wilson.

Mrs. Mettry was a member of the United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern
Star, WMU,  the American Legion Auxiliary, a past president of the Parent-
Teacher Association, and a primary Sunday school teacher.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister; her parents; her husband; a
sister, Leeta Bryan; and nephew, Ralph "Sonny" Bryan.

Survivors include two sons, Dr. Charles Mettry and wife Laurie, Ada, and
Michael Lee Mettry and wife Denise, Oklahoma City; a daughter, Virginia
Dionisio and husband James, Tulsa; a twin sister, Cora Lee Johnson, Drumright;
10 grandchildren, Heather Mettry, Shelley Mettry, Charles IV Mettry, Justin
Mettry, Captain Matthew Mettry, Nicholas Mettry, Anthony Dionisio and wife
Kim, Timothy Dionisio, Jacob Dionisio and Dr. Paula Dionisio and husband
Brandon Johnson; a great grandchild, Anthony Dionisio Jr.; and a niece, Betty
Crook, Childress, Texas.

honors.  Visitation will be at the home, 1217 N. Bolton, from noon today until
service time Thursday. Wake service will be held at the home at 7 p.m. today.

Mr. Worcester died  June 7, 2004, at Ada. He was born Nov. 6, 1915, at
Wapanucka to Arlington and Nora Colbert Worcester.  He lived all his life in
the Ada area and attended school at Pontotoc.

He married Lillian B. Sealy. She died in 1965 at Ada.

Mr. Worcester was a laborer and a Baptist, and served in the U. S. Army during
World War II.

He was preceded in death by two sons, David D. Worcester in 2000 and Cleveland
Worcester in 2002.

Survivors include his  four daughters, Robin Fulsom, Della B. Myers, both of
Ada, Rosa Worcester and GenVena Worcester, both of Oklahoma City; six sons,

LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Graveside services for Larry Lee McKeel, 70, Las Vegas,
formerly Ada, Okla., are 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mr. McKeel died April 21, 2004, at Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 31, 1933, at
Perkins, Okla., to W. B. and Bess McKeel.

He and his family moved to Ada when he was in the sixth grade. He played
baseball in junior high and high school and also for East Central University
where he received a degree in physical education.

Mr. McKeel served in the U. S. Army, was a 50-year member of the Elks Lodge
and a past exalted ruler of the Ada Elks Lodge 1640.

In 1961, he moved to LasVegas to teach, retiring in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Gwen McKeel, of the home, three daughters, Patti
Cava, Las Vegas, Gayle Stephenson, Moab, Utah, and Marianne Betz, Idaho Falls,
Idaho; a brother, Bill McKeel, Tulsa, Okla.; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Nolen died June 9, 2004, at a Mesquite nursing facility. He was born June
27, 1924, at Francis, Okla., to Riley Warren and Virgie F. Gale Nolen. He

He married Toni Barker.

Mr. Nolen was employed with Arco Petroleum, later British Petroleum, as a
geophysical draftsman. He retired in 1983 with 25 years of service. He was a
Baptist and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II.

wife Trina, Cave City, Ark.,and Greg Nolen and wife Barbara, Mesquite; two

Mrs. Higdon died Friday, June 11, 2004, at a local nursing home. She was born

She and John Cecil Higdon were married Aug. 22, 1942, at Ada. He died June 6,
1989, at Ada.

Mrs. Higdon was a homemaker and affiliated with the Baptist church. She was
active at the Ada Retirement Center, and was known as the "Door Greeter" for
12 years.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Ray Higdon.

Survivors include two sons, Cecil Lee Higdon and wife Viola, and Clarie Earl
Higdon, all of Ada; two daughters, Mary Ann Moore and husband Bill, Texas, and
Sheila Christine Hays, Ada;  six grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

She was born Feb. 12, 1934, at McAlester to Everett and Elizabeth Holstead

College and received a bachelor of science degree in education from
Southeastern University in Durant.

Mrs. Taylor taught seventh and eighth grade math and science at Moyers for ten
years. She was a member of Southwest Church of Christ.

She and Clarence Carl Taylor were married in Gallup, N.M. He died May 20,
1990.

Survivors include four daughters, Dixie Lee, JoAnn Quinn, both of Detroit,
Mich., Jennie Berry, Ada, and Robin Taylor, Galey; a son, Arthur Ray Taylor,

United Methodist Church.

He and Mona Smith Watts were married at Stratford  Sept. 11, 1949.

He was preceded in death by a son, Keith Watts; and three brothers, Willie
Watts, Roy Watts and Herbert Watts.

Survivors include his wife, Mona Watts, of the home; five sons, Charles Arthur
Watts and wife Karen, Refugio, Texas, Arnold Ray Watts and wife Linda, Chris

1998.

She lived in Drumright with her husband until ten years ago  when they moved
to Muskogee.

Mrs. Stephens was a homemaker, member of the Order of Eastern Star in Allen
and various Home Demonstration Clubs throughout Oklahoma and was a member of
the Methodist Church, Drumright.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two brothers Marshall
and Walter Whitehead; a sister, Lorraine (Buckle) Whitehead; and two great-
grandchildren, Gabriel and Rachel Cowan.

Survivors include two daughters, Mona Watson and husband William and Marla
Salts and husband Olen, all of Muskogee; two sisters, Rommette Bryant and
husband Jack, Schulter, and Patty Cotton, Allen; a brother, Fred Whitehead and

Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Sweat in 2001.

Mrs. Young was employed at Southwest Bell Telephone, retiring after 40 years
of service. She was a member of  First United Methodist Church, Ada.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Butts and Audrey Moyer.

Goldie Stevens, Springdale, Ark.; a brother, Louis Haynes, Miami; three

She was a sales clerk and cashier/bookkeeper for Katz Department Store in Ada
for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Ada’s First Church of
the Nazarene in Ada, the Valley View Auxiliary and Gideon International prior
to moving to Tulsa in 1990.

She was married to Ivan L. Price. He died in 1952. She later married Furman
"Slim" Williams. He died in 1981.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Howard Jared
and Ralph Jared; and a sister Boda Sliger.

Survivors include two daughters, Billie Price Drake and husband Harley, Tulsa,
and Patricia Price Smith and husband James, Plano, Texas;  two brothers, T. J.
and Clive, Coweta; a sister, Betty McKenzie, Salem, Ore.; a sister-in-law,

ANNETTE ESCUE

ADA — Services for Jewel Annette Escue, 57, Ada, are 10 a.m. Tuesday at
Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church, the Rev. Frank Trent officiating. Burial
follows at Center Cemetery.

Mrs. Escue died June 18, 2004, at a Pauls Valley hospital. She was born June
16, 1947, at Wewoka to Paul and Wilma Jewel Ladd Neill. She graduated from
Wewoka High School and moved to Ada in 1966.

She received both a bachelor of arts and masters in education degrees from
East Central University.

She and Roger Escue were married June 16, 1967.

Mrs. Escue was a case manager for the Department of Human Services at Southern
Oklahoma Resource Center in Pauls Valley for 15 years. She was an active
member of Calvary Pentecostal Holiness Church and was the director of
children’s church.

Survivors include her husband, Roger Escue, of the home; a son, Brian Keith
Escue, Ada; and a sister, Judy Higgins, Regis, Mont.

Bearers are Boyd Pittman, Lucky Spooner, Jerry Lee, Greg Morrison, Bill Brady
and Derrell Moore.

Honorary bearers are Marvin Lee, Cliff Williams, Buck Owens, Leman Holloway
and Lance Bonner.
