James L. Graham Fairview Republican, Feb. 5, 1909 Friday evening, January 22, the people of Isabella and Dane were shocked to hear of the sudden death of Rev. James L. Graham. Rev. Graham was an old resident of Oklahoma, having come here near the time of the opening. He located at Tivoli where he lived for some time after which he moved to Isabella and from there to Phoenix, Arizona, where he served as circuit minister for about four years, and about one year ago he moved to Hutchinson, Kansas. Some two months ago he left his family and came by request of friends, to Isabella to assist Rev. Cornish in a revival meeting, when the meeting was closed here they went to Dane, after working about four weeks he said he felt his was finished here. Rev. Cornish took him to Isabella Friday morning. A fire had gotten out from the railroad and Rev. Graham with others was fighting fire when a flame struck his face and the heat reached his lungs. He went to his daughter's home and died within an hour. His family arrived Sunday. The funeral service was held at Isabella Sunday morning. The remains were taken to Dane and funeral services held there Monday conducted by Rev. Cornish and Henry Isbell. He was laid to rest in the Bethel cemetery by the side of his daughter to await the Resurrection morning. Rev. James L. Graham was born near Springfield, Missouri, March 3, 1854, he was married to Miss Amanda Crump July 17, 1881, he was the father of six children, two boys and four girls, two of which have preceded him to the Glory world. He leaves a wife and four children, a mother, two brothers and two sisters, also a host of friends to mourn his death. Bethel Cemetery: As stone reads: Graham, Amanda E. 1858-1945 Graham, James.
