June 7, 2005 Loretta M. Becker, 80, of Jordan, died Tuesday in Van Duyn Home and Hospital. She was a life resident of Jordan and a 1942 graduate of Jordan High School. Mrs. Becker was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Jordan. She was formerly employed at Jordan Wire & Cable Co. and the General Electric Corp. Mrs. Becker also provided home care to several people in the Jordan-Elbridge area. She was predeceased by her husband George O. in 1999, sons George N. in 2000 and Philip J. in 2004. She was also predeceased by sister Mabel Arnold and brother Philip Albert DiRisio. Surviving are her daughter, Loretta Ann Stetson of Weedsport; son, Gregory E. Mr. Denslow was a laborer for Prestolite in Syracuse for 20 years. He was a member of the D.A.V. Chapter #30, Eliminators' Motorcycle Club, and the Push Rods Auto Club. Jim was an avid bowler and a custom car and motorcycle painter. He also was a Marine Corps veteran. Surviving him are his wife of 35 years, the former Dale C. Allen; four sons, James E. II, Shawn (Rae) H., Jesse D., and Brian F. She was born in Schwetzingen, Germany, and resided in East Syracuse. She retired after two careers, first with Syracuse China, and later with Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency. Fries, age 78, of Lansdale, PA, formerly of Cincinnati, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA. He was the husband of Sonia L. (Jessee) Fries for 52 years. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Rainer H. Fries Sr. and Lillian (Hettesheimer) Fries. He graduated from Elder High School in 1944 before serving in the U.S. Army from June 1945 until December 1946. Following his service in the Army, he attended Xavier University in Cincinnati and graduated with a B.S. degree in chemistry in 1950. The majority of his working life was spent with the General Electric Company where he worked as an engineer for 38 years. During his career at G.E., Mr. Fries' work brought him to many locations throughout the country. After starting in Cincinnati, from where he worked for a time at the site of the nation's first nuclear reactor at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, he moved with his family to Syracuse, NY, where as a senior engineer he continued to build on his experience in the field of nuclear effects testing and design of radiation resistant materials. After moving again and working for one year in Oklahoma City, OK, he returned to Syracuse where he remained for another 11 years before he came to work at the G.E. Aerospace Division in King of Prussia, PA, until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lansdale, PA. Mr. Fries was a devoted husband and father who never hesitated to work and sacrifice on behalf of his family. Gardening and working outdoors were among his small pleasures in life. He was also a talented handyman who enjoyed using his skills on home projects of all sorts, and often volunteered his time and efforts to help with community projects for his church and its affiliated schools. In Syracuse, he served for a time as president of the Onondaga Hill Community Association and was presented a service award "with deep appreciation in honor of faithful and valuable service." In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susan L. Sullivan and her husband Patrick of Syracuse, NY; two sons, Jeffery C. Fries of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Eric R. Fries of Hatfield, PA; two grandchildren, Calleen O. Sullivan and Amy T. Sullivan of Syracuse, NY; three brothers, Rainer H. Fries Jr. and his wife Darlene of Orlando, FL, Donald R. Born in Rochester, she was the daughter of Elizabeth and Walter Stratton and the last survivor of the four Stratton children. To her family and friends, Betty was an inspiration and all that is good and kind, the best possible wife, mother, and friend. Memories of her love, courage and remarkable sense of humor will be cherished always. Betty was an avid gardener, pastry chef, cake decorator, seamstress and enjoyed traveling, including trips to visit relations in Ireland. This was the homeland of her beloved mother and Betty was always proud of her Irish heritage. She and her husband John, for many years, were active in local politics. Betty also was an active member of the local TOPS Club. He was the husband of the late Joyce Cook Hardy Scaia who died in August 4, 2000. Born January 10, 1922, in Solvay, NY, he was the son of the late Frederick Anthony Scaia Sr. and the late Florence Lyons Scaia. Fred was a retired bus driver for Syracuse and Oswego Bus Lines and had volunteered at Virginia Baptist Hospital and Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 16 and the Exchange Club, all in Lynchburg, and the Solvay Tyrol Club in Solvay. He was a former member of Toastmasters, and American Legion Post 41, both in Syracuse. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.
