Becker, Loretta M.   
June 7, 2005 Loretta M. Becker, 80, of Jordan, died Tuesday in Van Duyn Home
and Hospital. She was a life resident of Jordan and a 1942 graduate of Jordan
High School. Mrs. Becker was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Jordan.
She was formerly employed at Jordan Wire & Cable Co. and the General Electric
Corp. Mrs. Becker also provided home care to several people in the
Jordan-Elbridge area. She was predeceased by her husband George O. in 1999,
sons George N. in 2000 and Philip J. in 2004. She was also predeceased by
sister Mabel Arnold and brother Philip Albert DiRisio. Surviving are her
daughter, Loretta Ann Stetson of Weedsport; son, Gregory E. (Robin) Becker of
Syracuse; two daughters-in-law, Cheryl Becker of Elbridge and Connie Becker of
Syracuse; brothers, Louis DiRisio of Auburn and James DiRisio of Fla.;
sisters, Helena Burkinshaw and Rose (John) Crim, both of Jordan; 10
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be offered 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's Church.
Burial will be Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at

Denslow Sr., James E.   
June 9, 2005 James E. Denslow Sr., 66, of Hastings, died Thursday, June 9,
2005, at Home. Born and raised in Syracuse, he's lived in Hastings for 33
years. Mr. Denslow was a laborer for Prestolite in Syracuse for 20 years. He
was a member of the D.A.V. Chapter #30, Eliminators' Motorcycle Club, and the
Push Rods Auto Club. Jim was an avid bowler and a custom car and motorcycle
painter. He also was a Marine Corps veteran. Surviving him are his wife of 35
years, the former Dale C. Allen; four sons, James E. II, Shawn (Rae) H., Jesse
D., and Brian F. Denslow; two daughters, Donna L.(David) McLoud and Julienne
(Thomas) Gordon; two grandsons, Thomas Denslow and Zachary McLoud; three
granddaughters, Kristyna, Nicole, and Kimberly Gordon; a great-granddaughter,
Alyson Denslow; and two brothers, Leafeo "Bill" Jr. and Thomas D. Denslow.
Services will be Monday, June 13, 2005, at 10 a.m. at the Watson Funeral Home,
Inc., 631 S. Main St., Central Square, with burial in Hillside Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2005, at the

June 8, 2005 Meta L. Domick, 79, died after a brief illness. She was born in
Schwetzingen, Germany, and resided in East Syracuse. She retired after two
careers, first with Syracuse China, and later with Onondaga County Resource
Recovery Agency. She is survived by a son, Donald Domick of Wethersfield, CT;
a grandson, Timothy Domick of Netcong, NJ; a granddaughter, Keliane Wicks of
Syracuse, NY; four great- grandchildren, Christopher, Kaylah, Jake and Zeke;
and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial event will be scheduled by the

Fries, Richard C.
June 7, 2005 Richard C. Fries, age 78, of Lansdale, PA, formerly of
Cincinnati, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at Lankenau Hospital in Wynnewood, PA.
He was the husband of Sonia L. (Jessee) Fries for 52 years. Born and raised in
Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of the late Rainer H. Fries Sr. and Lillian
(Hettesheimer) Fries. He graduated from Elder High School in 1944 before
serving in the U.S. Army from June 1945 until December 1946. Following his
service in the Army, he attended Xavier University in Cincinnati and graduated
with a B.S. degree in chemistry in 1950. The majority of his working life was
spent with the General Electric Company where he worked as an engineer for 38
years. During his career at G.E., Mr. Fries' work brought him to many
locations throughout the country. After starting in Cincinnati, from where he
worked for a time at the site of the nation's first nuclear reactor at the Oak
Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee, he moved with his family to Syracuse,
NY, where as a senior engineer he continued to build on his experience in the
field of nuclear effects testing and design of radiation resistant materials.
After moving again and working for one year in Oklahoma City, OK, he returned
to Syracuse where he remained for another 11 years before he came to work at
the G.E. Aerospace Division in King of Prussia, PA, until his retirement in
1990. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lansdale, PA. Mr.
Fries was a devoted husband and father who never hesitated to work and
sacrifice on behalf of his family. Gardening and working outdoors were among
his small pleasures in life. He was also a talented handyman who enjoyed using
his skills on home projects of all sorts, and often volunteered his time and
efforts to help with community projects for his church and its affiliated
schools. In Syracuse, he served for a time as president of the Onondaga Hill
Community Association and was presented a service award "with deep
appreciation in honor of faithful and valuable service." In addition to his
wife, he is survived by a daughter, Susan L. Sullivan and her husband Patrick
of Syracuse, NY; two sons, Jeffery C. Fries of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and
Eric R. Fries of Hatfield, PA; two grandchildren, Calleen O. Sullivan and Amy
T. Sullivan of Syracuse, NY; three brothers, Rainer H. Fries Jr. and his wife
Darlene of Orlando, FL, Donald R. Fries and his wife Shirley of Cincinnati,
OH, John H. Fries and his wife Betty of Florence, KY; and many nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lillian O. Fries, of
Cincinnati, OH. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Mass
Saturday, June 11, 12:30 p.m., at St. Stanislaus Church, E. Main St. and
Lansdale Avenue, in Lansdale, PA, where the family will receive friends from

June 8, 2005 David W. Hitchcock, 94, of South Seneca St., Weedsport, died June
8, 2005, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester. Mr. Hitchcock was born in
Port Byron on February 22, 1911. He was the son of late John and Lettie
Rancier Hitchcock. David owned and operated R.N. Hitchcock Company of Port
Byron for over 55 years. He was an avid reader and sports enthusiast,
particularly motor racing. Mr. Hitchcock is survived by his wife of 62 years,
Estella Smith Hitchcock; two children, Gary Hitchcock and his wife Diane
Leedle of Hollywood, Fla., and Joyce Biss and her husband Chuck of Auburn; six
grandchildren, Elizabeth Hitchcock of Meriden, CT, David Biss of Brighton, MA,
Andrew (Mary Margaret) Biss of Skaneateles, Rebekah Biss of Auburn, Matthew
and Samuel Hitchcock of Hollywood, FL; one brother, Robert (Jean) Hitchcock of

June 8, 2005 Carol A. (LaFlamme) Jeffery, 58, of Endicott, passed away
Wednesday morning, June 8, 2005, at her home after struggling with an
unforgiving illness - cancer. She was predeceased by her mother, Bernetta
LaFlamme. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Daniel; her two sons and
daughters-in-law, Daniel and Ann Marie, Endwell, and Mark and Megan,
Binghamton, who were the pride and joy of her life; and her father, Charles
LaFlamme, Syracuse. Carol was an employee of J.C. Penney. As requested by

Schenectady, he attended high school at St. Joseph's Academy and was a
graduate of the GE apprentice program. He retired in 1980 after 43 years with
General Electric. He was a communicant of St. Joseph the Worker Church. He is
survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret "Peg" Kuder Jordan; son, Eugene P.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Corradino)
Reitz. She was the credit manager for Montgomery and Ward for 15 years. She
retired as payroll clerk at Hillcrest Nursing Home. She was an avid bingo
player and sports fan. Predeceased by her husband Leonard (Dirk) Nelson, a
brother James Reitz, two sisters, Betty Vincent and Mary-Margaret Bellinger,
and a grandson Lenny Nelson. Surviving are a daughter, Deborah (Bill) Barbeau

June 5, 2005 Gerald J. Osborne, 86, of Perryville Rd., Chittenango, died
Sunday at the Iroquois Nursing Home in Jamesville. Born in the town of Lenox,
Mr. Osborne was a life resident of Chittenango. He was employed as a mechanic
with Sears for 15 years, retiring in 1984, and previously was employed as an
auto mechanic at the former Pat's Chevrolet in Chittenango. He was a U.S. Navy
veteran of WWII. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Ethel F.
Trendel; a sister-in-law, Laura Striker of Florida; and several nieces and

June 8, 2005 Ethel Quigley, 83, of W. Elizabeth St., Skaneateles, died
Wednesday. Born in Ellesmere, England, she was a retired legal secretary. She
served with the English Women's Land Army during World War 2. She was a
communicant of St. Mary's of the Lake Church in Skaneateles, a member of the
Altar and Rosary Society, and sang with the Skaneateles Singing Seniors
Chorus. Surviving are her husband, John V.; sons, Michael of Auburn, John of
Skaneateles and Chris of Rochester; daughters, Terry Quigley of Albany, Pat
Cleaver of Auburn, Peg Dienhoffer of Moravia and Maureen Quigley-Klueber of

June 8, 2005 Mary DeMaria Ranalli died Wednesday at Community General
Hospital. Born in Syracuse, she was a resident of Solvay for over 50 years.
Mary was a case worker for Onondaga Co. Dept. of Social Services, retiring in
1987. She was active in the Solvay community for many years. She was a
communicant of West Genesee Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter,
Betty (Duncan) Green of Camillus; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Mark)
Green-Whittenberg of E. Syracuse and Brian (Erica) Green of Solvay; two
great-grandchildren, Kaylin and Matthew Green; her sister, Theresa Soccocio of

Roycraft, Betty Stratton   
June 8, 2005 Betty Stratton Roycraft, of Camillus, passed away Wednesday at
home in the company of her family. Born in Rochester, she was the daughter of
Elizabeth and Walter Stratton and the last survivor of the four Stratton
children. To her family and friends, Betty was an inspiration and all that is
good and kind, the best possible wife, mother, and friend. Memories of her
love, courage and remarkable sense of humor will be cherished always. Betty
was an avid gardener, pastry chef, cake decorator, seamstress and enjoyed
traveling, including trips to visit relations in Ireland. This was the
homeland of her beloved mother and Betty was always proud of her Irish
heritage. She and her husband John, for many years, were active in local
politics. Betty also was an active member of the local TOPS Club. Surviving
are her husband John of 56 years; sons, Dave (Sue) Bradley of Hannibal and
Doug (Barbara) Bradley of Skaneateles; daughter, Gerry Roycraft of East
Syracuse; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 9:45 a.m. Monday at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee
St., Camillus and at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Warners

Scaia Jr., Frederick Anthony   
Scaia Jr. June 9, 2005 Frederick Anthony Scaia Jr., 83, of Evington, VA, died
Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of
the late Joyce Cook Hardy Scaia who died in August 4, 2000. Born January 10,
1922, in Solvay, NY, he was the son of the late Frederick Anthony Scaia Sr.
and the late Florence Lyons Scaia. Fred was a retired bus driver for Syracuse
and Oswego Bus Lines and had volunteered at Virginia Baptist Hospital and
Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Fort Hill United Methodist Church,
American Legion Post 16 and the Exchange Club, all in Lynchburg, and the
Solvay Tyrol Club in Solvay. He was a former member of Toastmasters, and
American Legion Post 41, both in Syracuse. He served his country honorably in
the U.S. Army during World War II. In addition to his parents and wife, he was
preceded in death by a son, Joseph F. Scaia; and by a brother, Lawrence Scaia.
He is survived by six children, Frederick A. Scaia, III, Mary Anne Scaia and
Cheryl L. Scaia, all of Syracuse, NY, David A. Scaia of Gulfport, Miss.,
Russell F. Scaia of Wichita, KS, and Ronald R. Scaia of Mulverne, KS; nine
brothers and sisters, Albert Scaia of Lynchburg, Pauline Caponiti of Phoenix,
AZ, Thomas Scaia of Hennesy, OK, Francis Scaia of Wichita, KS, Gloria Scaia
and Rose Mary Mills, both of Phoenix, AZ, Donald Scaia of Wichita, KS, Eileen
Cavanaugh of Clarkson, MI and Robert Scaia of Oklahoma City, OK; 10

White, Richard "Dickie"
June 8, 2005 Richard "Dickie" White, 72, passed away Wednesday at Veterans
Hospital. Dick was a life resident of Syracuse, and a Navy veteran of the
Korean War. He had a passion for singing and loved to go dancing with his
devoted companion, Jane Dyer. Dick was predeceased by his brother Bobby. He is
survived by two sons, Richard and Darrell White; two daughters, Michelle
(Jack) Pascarella and Jennifer Pitts; two brothers, Jack (Sylvia) White and
Darrell (Carol) White; a sister, Betty Jane (Paul) Becker; seven
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday
at 10 a.m. at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 3180 Bellevue Ave. Burial
will be in Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours will be
Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
