Beadel, Thomas Coster   
August 29, 2004 Thomas C. Beadel, 66, of Santa Barbara, CA, Murray Island, NY,
and formerly of Syracuse died Sunday at University Hospital. Born in
Philadelphia, PA, to Robert and Vera Beadel, he attended public schools in
Syracuse, NY. Mr. Beadel graduated fromDartmouth College in 1960, and received
his MBA from Syracuse University in 1971. Tom was employed as regional sales
manager in the family business, A.H. Pond Co. (Keepsake Diamonds) and served
on the board of directors until 1980. He was a member of Sedgwick Farms,
Limestone, and Northwood Tennis Clubs, and the Onondaga Golf and Country Club.
He and his wife, Caryl and son, Bob moved to Santa Barbara, CA in 1981.
Besides his wife and son, Tom is survived by his sisters, Louise Danforth,
Charlotte Yehle, and Frances Purcell. Services will be held at the Antique
Boat Museum, Clayton, New York at 4 p.m. Sunday, September 5. In lieu of
flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Broton, Barbara DePeyster Redhead   
Redhead Broton August 29, 2004 Barbara DePeyster Redhead Broton, 64, of Clay
died Sunday at Crouse Hospital surrounded by her family. Barbara was born in
Syracuse and was a life resident of the Syracuse area. She was formerly
employed by the US Post Officeand ran her own catering service called Ma's
Catering. Barbara was an avid bowler and golfer and was cook of the week for
the Post-Standard. Her first husband Rodney Redhead died in 1970; her father
Wilbur DePeyster and her brother Roy "Butch" DePeyster also predecease her.
Survivors: Her husband of 27 years Erwin Edwin Broton; daughters, Bonnie
Walker of Atlanta, GA, Sherry Redhead of Liverpool, Cindy Adams of Cicero,
Teri Knight of Albany and SueAnn Beck of Mechanicsville, PA; her mother, Mae
Gmyr; grandchildren, Jamie, Kristen and Robbie Walker; Kevin and Mike Adams;
Robyn Schmidt; brothers, Ron DePeyster and Rich Gmyr; sisters, Shirley
DePeyster, Sandy Shuster, Sue Draper, Janet, Debbie and Pam Gmyr; several

Cole, Leslie S.   
August 30, 2004 Leslie S. Cole, 87, of 116 Stanley Drive, Syracuse, died
Monday at Community General Hospital. Mr. Cole worked 38 years for Allied
Chemical, retiring in 1979. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church,
Fairmount, a Navy Veteran of WWII, and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars,
Post #2893. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former, Marian M.
Masterpaul; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be Friday 10 a.m.

Harrell, Stephen H.   
August 30, 2004 Stephen H. Harrell, 55, of Bridgeport, passed away Monday at
VA Medical Center. He was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War, a member of the
Bridgeport and Constantia VFW, and South shore Association of Oneida Lake.
Predeceased by his mother, Rita in 1998. Survivors: Wife, Arta; sons,
Christopher of SC and James of FL; daughters, Dawn (Charlie) May of
Fayetteville and Kellie (Joseph) Cullen of Jeffersonville; sisters, Patricia

Hill, William James   
August 29, 2004 William J. Hill, 65, of Liverpool, died Sunday at St. Joseph's
Hospital. Born in Bradford, PA, he was a graduate of Bradford High School. He
was employed by Syracuse Supply, Syracuse Fasteners, Albany Products of
Norwalk, CT as a BranchManager and Thruway Fasteners, retiring after 30 years
in 2003 as General Manager. He was a VJAA coach for football, basketball and
baseball, a referee and Founding Father for Independent Football Officials of
Onondaga County and an umpire for the NYS Umpires Association. He was an usher
at SU's Manley Field House in the "ZOO" and at the Carrier Dome. He was a
coach of West Genesee Babe Ruth, the voice of Babe Ruth tournaments at Griffin
Field and the Western NY Babe Ruth League Baseball District Commissioner. He
was an avid fan of SU, Notre Dame and Perdue athletics. William is survived by
his wife of 42 years, Mary Ann (Shipman) Hill; two sons, William T. (Kelly)
Hill of Manlius and David M. Hill of Camillus; two grandchildren, Bryan and
Brittany Hill. Services: Friday, 9 a.m. at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home,

Hungerford, Alice Jane   
August 28, 2004 Alice Jane Hungerford, 83, formerly of Fulton, died Saturday
at her home in Smyrna, Delaware, with family members present. Born in Fulton,
to the late Ella and Royal Yager, Jr., she lived in the area prior to moving
to Englewood, Florida in 1971with her husband. They later moved to Delaware in
1996 to be closer to their children. A homemaker most of her life, Mrs.
Hungerford raised six children and later ran her own drapery business. She was
a member of the Fulton First United Methodist Church. An avid music lover, she
was a self-taught musician who sang and performed music with various groups
for family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing and made a wide variety of
crafts, leaving a legacy of hand-made quilts and gifts for her family. She is
survived by her husband of 65 years, Charles S. Hungerford of Smyrna; two
sons, David Hungerford of California and Charles "Chip" Hungerford of
Pennsylvania; four daughters, Rhonda Hungerford of Baldwinsville, Susan Smith
of Syracuse, Nancy Halstead of Hilton and Sharon O'Neill of Delaware; 16
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at
Foster Funeral Home, Fulton. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be 5

Kukys, Richard B.   
August 30, 2004 Richard B. Kukys, 58 passed away at Crouse Hospital. He was
co-owner of We Can Do It, a graduate of ESM in 1964 after moving from Tully in
1962. Dick worked for 30 years as a Bartender at many bars around Syracuse and
was a loving fa-ther to Shaun. Survived by his son, Shaun Kukys; longtime
companion, Pam Stuper; brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Marie Kukys;
aunt, Mary Cieslewicz and several cousins. Funeral services are Friday at 9:30
a.m. at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home and at 9 a.m. in Blessed

August 30, 2004 Rosa Maggio, 91, died Monday in Auburn Nursing Home. She was a
communicant of St. Mary's Church and had been employed at Dunn & McCarthy Shoe
Co. and retired in 1970 from the H.R. Wait Co. She is survived by three sons,
Rocco and his wife, Laurie of Sodus, Joseph and his wife, Betty, Andrew and
his wife, Patti, all of Auburn; two daughters, Marie Sokernyk and Nikie Bolak
and her husband, Peter, all of Auburn; four brothers; two sisters; 22
grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

O'Sullivan, Denis "Danny"   
August 28, 2004 Denis O'Sullivan (Danny), died Saturday at Community Hospital.
He was born on August 15, 1924 in Ireland. He was one of nine children who
came to the United States in the early 1950's. He was a member of Bricklayers
Local 2 for fifty-three years. Some highlights of his career were the
construction of the Jerry Rescue and the Stone Throwers Monument. He owned and
operated The Old Rock Inn in the Split Rock area for twenty-one years. He was
an avid outdoorsman, a professional boxer, and a physical trainer with the
Royal Air Force. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Anastasia
(Quigley); sons, Jerald and Timothy; daughters, Mary Powell of Greeley,
Colorado, and Colleen of Crested Butte, Colorado; siblings in Canada, Ireland,
Australia, and England, and eight grandchildren. Services will be held
Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Edward J. Ryan & Son Funeral Home, 1628 W. Genesee
St. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at

Army Air Force veteran of WWII. Kent retired from Prestolite in Syracuse. He

Usher, Gladys W.   
August 31, 2004 Gladys W. Usher, 102, formerly of the Elizabeth Brewster
House, Homer, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2004 at the Kendal of
Ithaca. She was born August 7, 1902 in New York Mills, NY. She graduated
Cornell University in 1923. Gladys married Robert R. Usher in 1924. Together
they owned and operated a farm in Preble for many years. Following their
retirement Bob and Gladys enjoyed winters in Zephyr Hills, FL. Mrs. Usher was
very active in civic affairs; a longtime member of the Tully United Community
Church and the United Presbyterian Church in Cortland. She was a former member
of the Board of Trustees at the Cortland Memorial Hospital, a co-founder of
the Tully Community Council, a charter member of the Cortland Chapter of the
Cornell Women's Club and a member of the Tully Chapter #554; O.E.S. Survivors:
a son, Lynn D. (Andrea) Usher of Hadley, NY; three daughters, Carolyn U.
(Benjamin) Franklin of Ithaca, Ruth U. (Herbert) Wisner of Eugene, OR and
Janet U. (George) Stokoe of Homer. Also surviving are her 10 grandchildren and
seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Usher was predeceased by her husband, Robert
in 1982. Services: 4 p.m. Saturday at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, Inc.,
5016 N. Main St., Homer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home
on Saturday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Contributions: Charity

Vassar, Jeanette L.   
August 29, 2004 Jeanette L. Vassar, 45, of Mattydale, died Sunday at Cortland
Memorial Hospital. She was a 1976 graduate of Westside Catholic High School
and a graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing. At the time of her death,
she was em-ployed as a registered nurse at the Hutchings Psychiatric Center.
Jeanette was previously employed by the Onondaga County Dept. of Social
Services and the Onondaga County Dept. of Corrections. She was a member of the
Professional Employees Federation and a former member of C.S.E.A. Jeanette was
an avid Buffalo Bills fan and enjoyed traveling. Surviving are her daughters,
Elisabeth and Katherine and son, Charles Vassar, all of Mattydale; parents,
John and Myung Ja LaParo of Onondaga Hill; sister, Mona Hanuszczak of
Fairmount; former husband, Richard Vassar of Mattydale and several aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at
Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. Friends may call
Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenlawn
Cemetery, Warners.
