Clancy, James B.
ALBANY James B. Clancy, died peacefully in his home on Thursday, October 7,
2004. Born in Peekskill, N.Y. on April 30, 1918, Jim was a graduate of
Mercersberg Academy in Pennsylvania and Fordham University in New York City.
He achieved the rank of captain in the U.S. Army Air Corp while stationed in
the Philippines during World War II and was awarded the American Campaign
Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was assigned to the War Crimes Investigation Detachment from 1944 to 1946
and served as adjutant to the defense counsel for General Yamashita at the
close of the war. After the war, Jim co-founded Paragon Press in Brooklyn and
later started Travel Inc. opening travel offices in East Orange, N.J.,
Ridgewood, N.J. and the Carlyle Hotel in New York City. He served as chairman
of the board of adjustment in the town of Ridgewood for many years until
retiring in 1980. Jim then moved with his family to New London, N.H. where he
was elected to the board of education and the planning board, serving in those
capacities for more than ten years. Jim was known for his prevailing gentle
humor, his discerning judgment and his kind and thoughtful nature. He
earnestly believed that life is to be enjoyed and he tried always to bring
everyone along with him on that adventure. He was particularly fond of jelly
beans, licorice sticks, baseball, the Millrose Games, mismatched clothes, all
things Irish and just simply, people. He traveled extensively, genuinely
welcoming the company of all peoples, and formed many, many lasting
friendships. He loved, most of all, being surrounded by his children and seven
grandchildren and his family continually and totally responded to that love.
He knew it was time to leave the people and the life he cherished, to find the
greatest loving...and he accepted that with the same trust and grace with
which he lived his life. The world has lost a true gentleman; he will be
forever missed by all that knew him. Jim was predeceased by his first wife,
Martha Ann Clancy in 1967 and is survived by his present wife of 35 years,
Suzanne. His devoted children and their spouses include Pamela and Dave Break

Clancy of Woodstock, Conn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
Monday at 5 p.m. at St. Lucy's Church, Grand St., Altamont. Burial will be in
Saratoga National Cemetery.
