Barry County, Missouri Biographical Sketch - William A. Williams

William Allen Williams 1870-1948

William Williams was born February 4, 1870 in Cassville (Barry County)
Missouri. He was the fourth child and first son of John Allen Williams, a
North Carolina native and Hester Ann Benton of Missouri. John A. Williams
had fought for the Confederacy under Gen. Sterling Price at the battles of
Pea Ridge and Wilson's Creek.
William Williams married Sara Alice Davenport of Pleasant Hope (Polk County)
Missouri in 1897 and their first three children were born there. Mr.
Williams operated, for a time, a water well drilling operation and this
eventually took he and his family back to Barry County where the next three
children were born.
In 1911, Will and Sara Williams brought their family to Barton County in the
vicinity of the Oakton community and there purchased a farm; the last two
Williams children were born there.
Mr. Williams was a member of the Oakton Baptist Church and, after he retired
from farming, purchased a house just to the north of the old church.
He passed away June 10th, 1948 and is buried along with his wife in the Oak
Grove Cemetery, Oakton, Missouri.
