Michael Eugene Vosburgh, 56, of Ely died Tuesday, June 15, 2004. Mike was
born in Berwyn, IL on July 11, 1947 to Clarence and Jeanne (Balducci)
Vosburgh and graduated from LaSalle High School in Peru, IL and Illinois
Valley Community College. He later attended the University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Mike was a founding member and past president of the “Who’s Counting Duck
Club.” In addition, he belonged to the Ely Antique Car Club.

In 1983 he opened the doors of Custom Cabin Rentals on Moose Lake. As the
owner and operator, Mike personally built and expanded his business from
three to 10 cabins over a 21-year period. He was also involved in real
estate sales with Trygg Land Office.

Mike came to Ely when he was six years old, working for his grandparents at
Kirk’s Lodge. As an avid fisherman and hunter, he guided many wilderness
trips through the Moose Lake Chain and Quetico areas.

Because of his love of the Moose Lake area and his reluctance to stray very
far from there, he earned the nickname “Ten Acre Mike.” Mike often said that
he started as a dock boy at six years of age and joked that he was still a
dock boy 50 years later. He called it “job security.” In recent years he
enjoyed his winters fishing and scuba diving in the Caribbean.

Mike is survived by: his wife, Betsy Harryman Vosburgh; son, Willy Vosburgh;
brothers, Tom (Lana) Vosburgh of Naperville, IL, and Jeff (Kim) Vosburgh of
Parkers Prairie, MN, and several nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents: Ruth and Bill Burley,
former owners of Kirks Lodge.

A memorial service officiated by Pastor William Fossum will be held at the
Vosburgh home on Moose Lake on Wednesday June 30, 2004 at 6:30 p.m.
Donations may be given to the American Heart Association.

Family services provided by Kerntz Brothers, A Bauman family funeral home of
Ely.
