I used the existing cemetery books graciously loaned to me by township clerk, Beverly Greshaw, with the willing permission and participation of the Burr Oak Township Board. Also for this compilation, I used my own genealogical research to fill in where there were blanks from information I'd gathered at the county courthouse vital records, from obituaries printed in the now defunct Burr Oak Acorn, a weekly newspaper, obituaries collected over the years by my grandmother, mother and aunts as well as those collected and loaned to me by Mrs Shirley Elmer. Lastly, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge and give credit to the late Geneva Smith for the very important role she played in making our cemetery records as complete as they are today. I'm most appreciative of her work that came before all of us and am especially grateful to her daughter, Mrs. Shirley Elmer in allowing me to use her mothers papers to make this as complete a record as possible. He also was very active in community affairs, serving as Burr Oak village treasurer, fire chief, justice of the peace, St Joseph County commissioner, and chairman of the election board. Surviving are his wife; one son, Gary L Bordner, of Downers Grove, Illinois; three grandsons, Andrew Bordner of Japan, John Bordner of Sacramento, California, and James Bordner of Champagne, Illinois; one great grandson; one step son, Bruce Weaver of Charleston, Illinois; two step grand-daughters, Mrs Mark (Julie) Briggs and Mrs Greg (Michelle) Drake, both of Charleston; two step granddaughters; and one sister, Dorothy Holmes of San Diego, California. She was employed 22 years at the Kirsch Company and she attended the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her family, playing cards and reading. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs Thomas (Cindy) Bidwell, Sturgis; two grandchildren, Scott Mingus and Miki Mingus, both of Sturgis; three sisters, Mrs Elmer (Mary) Meyer, Goshen, Indiana, Helen Teadt and Mrs Bob (Betty) Davis, both of Burr Oak; three brothers, Don Maystead, Dick Maystead and Ron Maystead, all of Sturgis; one aunt, Merle Garner, Burr Oak; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Pam Bucknell; and one brother, Bob Maystead. There was no visitation and cremation was done. Graveside services were held at the Burr Oak Cemetery with Rev Terri Wallick officiating. Arrangements were handled by the Rosenberg-Schipper Funeral Home, Sturgis. He was born 16 August 1913, in Ovid, a son of Frank and Henrietta (Sears) Davidson. On 10 June 1935, he married Enid M Crum, In Coldwater. She died 17 July 1993. He was a California resident since February 1995. Before that, he had lived in Rancho Viejo, Texas, eight years, coming from Burr Oak where he had lived several years. He had owned and operated the Davidson Supermarkets in Burr Oak and Bronson and he also was in partnership with Clarence Snyder operating Laundromats in Centreville, Bronson, Coldwater, Sturgis in Michigan and Angola, Indiana until 1983. He was a member of the Los Fresnos United Methodist Church, Texas, the Burr Oak Eagles Lodge 124 F&AM, and the Bronson Rotary Club with more than 50 years of perfect attendance. He had received the Paul Harris Fellow and he was a former member of the Burr Oak United Methodist church. He enjoyed playing golf and bridge. Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Schmidt, Pomona California; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Susan Davidson, Burr Oak; three grandchildren, Lisa Davidson Jerome, Royal Oak, Mark Schmidt, Portland, Oregon, and Julie Schmidt, Rancho Cucamonga, California; one sister, Ruth Gwynn, Longview, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Sybil Kipp; and one brother, Jesse Davidson. There will be no vistation. Graveside services were held on Sunday at the Burr Oak Cemetery with Rev Millie Forward, Burr Oak United Methodist church. Burial will follow. Arrangements were handled by the Hackman-Foglesong Funeral Home, Sturgis. Memorials may be directed to the Bronson Rotary Club or Burr Oak United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Michael Davis, Grand Rapids, John Davis, Kalamazoo; one daughter, Mrs Charles (Nuyen, Sturgis; four grandchildren, Michael, Austin, Kaleena and Charles; one sister, Mary Horvath, Sturgis; two brothers, Richard Davis, Colon and Donald Davis, Wichita, Kansas; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Helen May and one brother, Theodore Davis. Cremation has taken place, no visitation.
