Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Tues. Jan. 19, 2010

Robert R. Nummer, aged 83, of Ionia, passed away Jan. 13, 2010.

He was welcomed into the family of Leon and Susie (Reid) Nummer on April 27,
1926 in Ionia. He attended Jefferson Elementary and Ionia High School but
decided to quit school in the 10th grade saying, “Things were tough in those
days and I went to work for the railroad as a painter.” Robert attained his GED
in 1972. At age 18 he joined the U.S. Army and was sent to Oklahoma for basic
training. Starting in 1944, he was deployed to Germany for 15 months. Although
he met his future wife, Dorothy Chapin, in high school, they did not start to
date until he returned home from the service. They were married in Stanton,
Mich., in February of 1947. She preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 1988. After
retiring from Cascade Metal Products, Bob had more time to devote to his many
hobbies. He loved to fish, bowl and golf. He was a member of the Ionia Moose
Lodge where he participated in euchre tournaments. He also enjoyed
woodworking. “I was a backyard mechanic, too. It sure came in handy when fixing
all the kids’ cars!”

Robert is survived by his children Suzanne (Ellis) King of Muir, Robert L
(Paula) Nummer of Ionia, Steven (Janice) Nummer of Ionia, Kathy (Thomas)
Kincaid of Ionia and Terri Nummer of Ionia; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Jan. 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Shiloh
Community Church with Rev. Kenneth Harger officiating. The family will receive
friends and relatives Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia. In lieu
of flowers you may make memorial contributions to the Belding V.F.W. Online
condolences may be made at www.lakefuneralhomes.com.
