FRANKFORT - Robert C. "Casey" Hollenbeck, 50, of Frankfort, died Thursday, July
22, 2004, at his home.
Casey was born on May 19, 1954, in Benzie County, the son of Robert R.
and Merry Kay (Nielsen) Hollenbeck. A lifelong resident of Benzie County, Casey
graduated from Frankfort High School.
He was a Department of Public Works employee for the city of Frankfort
for 16 years, having to retire earlier this year due to his illness. Casey was
a member of the Frankfort Fire Department for 29 years, serving as chief for
the past 16 years. He was a member of the Fire Department's First Responders
and the Water/Ice Rescue Team. Casey was also a member of the Fire
Investigation Team with the Benzie County Sheriff's Department. He served as
captain for the Relay for Life for the city of Frankfort. He was also a member
of the Sons of the American Legion and the Trinity Lutheran Church of
Frankfort.
Casey was the recipient of the 2003 Michigan Association of Fire Chiefs,
Fire Chief of the Year, an honor he truly coveted.
On May 19,1979, in Frankfort, he married the former Marianne F. Flynn,
who survives. Casey is also survived by his two sons, Brandon of Auburn Hills
and Chad of Frankfort; his parents; two sisters; Merry Leesa (Ron) Wilkins and
Brooke (Grant) Sowa, both of Frankfort; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Casey was preceded in death by a brother, in infancy.
Friends may call today, July 24, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Benzonia
Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July
25, 2004, at 2 p.m., from the Trinity Lutheran Church in Frankfort, with
Pastors Rick Stieve and S. James Petteys co-officiating. Private family
graveside services will be held at Crystal Lake Township Cemetery North.
The family has requested memorials, in Casey's honor, be directed to the
Frankfort Fire Department's equipment fund.
