Last Rites For J. W. Johnson Held At New Hope

Last rites for J. W. Johnson, 70, who succumbed at his home in the Hudson
Community Friday after a long illness, were held at the New Hope Methodist
Church Saturday with the Rev. Mr. Pruett, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Lemmon,
officiating.

Born in Union County, Ark., July 14, 1862, Mr. Johnson came to Winn Parish
about 40 years ago.  He was married to Miss Kate White of this parish in 1906,
and they have nine children, all of whom survive.

He leaves his wife, six daughters and three sons.  His daughters are Mrs. A.
L. Dupont, Plaquemine; Mrs. W. R. Roberts, Chatham; Mrs. A. W. ______, Clarks;
Mrs. Woodrow Dark, Gaars Mill; and Misses Marie and Lois Johnson of Hudsons.
Sons, Pet and Bill, Hudson; and Roy Johnson in the U. S. Navy somewhere in the
Pacific.  He also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Sholars and Mrs. Alson
Jones, Dodson; and Mrs. J. S. Lucas, Mansfield; two brothers, Will of
Smackover, Ark., and Ben Hutto of Dodson; and 11 grandchildren.
