STOKES, CLIFTON BRANON 
Clifton Branon Stokes, 83 years old, died Saturday, Dec. 10, 2005, at his
home in Hammond. He was born Monday, May 15, 1922, in Crandall, Ga. He was
a retired U.S. Marine and a masseur. He was also president of the Altoona,
Pa., Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He is survived by
two sisters, Janet Stokes Redicker of Florida and Carolyn Stokes Tyler of
South Carolina; and a brother, Charles T. Stokes of Tennessee. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Violet Brannen Stokes; parents, Robert R.
Stokes and Sally Turner Stokes; and four brothers, James Grady Stokes, F.C.
Stokes, Robert Stokes and John R. Stokes. Friends will be received at Harry
McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, on Monday, Dec. 12, from 5 p.m. to 
9 p.m., with service at 7 p.m. Graveside service at Holly Gardens Cemetery,
Hammond, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13. In lieu of flowers, please make

STOKES, EFFIE JEAN
Franklinton -- Effie Jean Stokes, 56, died Friday, May 7, 2004, at her home. 
She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church and a caregiver for the elderly. 
Survivors include her father and stepmother, Aubrey B. and Ruby Stokes of 
Kentwood; and five stepbrothers and stepsisters. She was preceded in death by 
her mother, Dewis Wilson Stokes. The Rev. Gene Simpkins conducted the funeral 
Tuesday, and burial was in Faith Tabernacle Church Cemetery. Crain Funeral Home, 
Franklinton, was in charge.

A resident of Atlanta and a native of Independence, she died at 6 a.m.
Friday, Dec. 12, 2008, at LSU Earl K. Long Medical Center. She was 46.

service at 3 p.m. Interment in Thomas Chapel Cemetery. Survived by two

STOKES, OTTO JR. 
Otto Stokes Jr., 67, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, in Atmore, Ala. He
was a native of Kentwood, a former resident of Pensacola, Fla., and a
resident of Century, Fla., for the past 16 years. He was retired from
Pensacola Parks and Recreation after 30 years of service. He attended
Chesbrough Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto
Stokes Sr. and Cora Lee Lebo Stokes. He is survived by his wife of 46
years, Barbara Lindsey Stokes of Century; three sons, Robert Earl Gafford
Sr. of Holt, Fla., J.W. Gafford of Century and Otto Stokes III of
Pensacola; two daughters, Barbara Ann Flowers of Pensacola and Ruby
Patricia Tolbert of Brewton, Ala.; two brothers, Aubrey Stokes of
Tangipahoa and Carley Stokes of Mount Hermon; five sisters, Annie Stokes
Jones, Laverne Stokes Wall and Margaret Stokes Magliolo, all of Hammond,
Dorothy Stokes Googe of Baton Rouge and Lexie Stokes Easley of Loranger; 13
grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visiting from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at Eastside Chapel Funeral
Home, Atmore. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at Eastside Chapel
Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gene Stokes officiating. Interment in Bay
Minette Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chris Tolbert, Robert Gafford Jr.,
Jamie Gafford, Otto Stokes IV, Joe Johnson and Ken Daniels.

Hammond. She was 83, born Sept. 15, 1928, in Lexie, Miss., and was a 
resident of Kentwood. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, 
Friday, Dec. 16, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until 
religious services at 1 p.m. Interment in Tangipahoa Cemetery, Tangipahoa. 
Survived by husband, Aubrey Stokes, Kentwood; five daughters, Pearl Steele, 
Kentwood, Sue Tucker and husband Kenny, Huntsville, Ala., Barbara Didone, 
Kentwood, Linda Baker and husband Don, La Porte, Texas, and Glenda 
Williams, Sugar Land, Texas; three sons, Frank Bedwell and wife Amy, 
Kentwood, Earl Didone and wife Barbara, Crosby, and Michael Bedwell and 
wife Christina, Marion Junction, Ala.; two sisters, Rose Carlin, Denham 
Springs, and Verlie Ann Reeves, Magnolia, Miss.; a brother, Preston 
Fairburn, Tylertown, Miss.; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. 
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jesse Didone Sr. and Frank 
Bedwell; daughter, Marie Coffin; parents, Quinton and Elizabeth Fairburn; 
brother, Jerome Fairburn; sister, Ola Bezar; a son, Eddie Didone; a 
daughter, Jean Stokes; grandson, Cory Didone; and great-grandson, Ryan
