COCKERHAM, ALBERTA STEPHENSON
A native of Alton and a resident of Tickfaw, she died Monday, March 12,
2007, in Landmark Nursing Center in Hammond at age 98. Mrs. Cockerham
retired from Hammond State School and was a member of Nesom Memorial
Methodist Church. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and
John Broussard; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Sandra Cockerham,
Jonnie and Jerrie Cockerham; daughter-in-law, JoAnna Cockerham; nine
grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; half sister and her husband, Billie
and Carter Williams; and half brother, McGuffy Fife. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Jonnie J. Cockerham; son, Alfred Cockerham; parents,
Samuel Lee and Mae Aline T. Stephenson; three brothers, two sisters, two
half brothers and a half sister. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely
& Son Funeral Home in Hammond on Wednesday, March 14, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
and on Thursday, March 15, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., with the
Rev. E. Rand Guy officiating. Interment will follow in the Colonial
Cemetery in Independence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to

A resident of Independence, he died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at North Oaks
Medical Center, Hammond. He was 68 and a native of Denham Springs.
Visitation at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 
10 p.m. Thursday. Visitation in the funeral home chapel from 8 a.m. until
religious service at 10 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. E. Rand Guy.
Entombment in Colonial Mausoleum. Survived by his wife, Joanna DeSalvo
Cockerham, Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Lynn Cockerham
Zayak and Randy Zayak, Independence; two sons and daughters-in- law, Thomas
Lamar and Karen Cockerham, Independence, and Kenneth Wayne and Leatrix
Cockerham, Watson; four grandchildren, Ashley and Jennifer Cockerham, Karis
Cockerham and Samantha Zayak; mother, Alberta May Stephenson Cockerham,

COCKERHAM, BERNICE KING
Bernice King Cockerham, 85, of Hammond, died Sunday, September 17, 2006, in
Hammond Nursing Home.  She was born November 21, 1920, in Poplarville,
Mississippi, daughter of the late William and Dolly Smith King, and wife of
the late Edward Cockerham.  Surviving are son, Glenn Cockerham; grandsons,
Evan and Bennett Cockerham; sisters, Eva Walker and Doris Freeman; and
brothers, David and Bobby King.  She was preceded in death by a son, Daryl
Cockerham; a sister, Mildred Lee; and four brothers, Clyde, Alvin, Clifton,
and Clayton King.  Friends will be received Wednesday, September 20, 2006,
at Harry McKneely & Son in Ponchatoula from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m.
Funeral Home Chapel service, conducted by Rev. Adriene Spikes.  Interment

Natalbany -- Bessie Mae Cockerham, 71, died April 16, 2004, at her home.  
She is survived by a daughter, Dianne Robinson Gaten of Natalbany; two 
brothers, Lavoice Webb of Cleveland and Frederick Webb of New Orleans; 
two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 
N.A. James Funeral Home today from 4 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Leroy Taylor 
will conduct the funeral Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Baptist Church, 
Hammond. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
