ROBERTINE COBB

Following a private family graveside service at Rhymes Cemetery, a memorial 
service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Rayville 
United Methodist Church for Robertine Rhymes Cobb. Visitation will be from 
10:00-11:00 A.M. in the church Fellowship Hall.

Robertine was born September 6, 1920 and passed away on January 11, 2016 after a 
brief illness at the age of 95. She attended Rayville Elementary and High School 
graduating from Gulf Park preparatory school in Gulfport, Mississippi then from 
Sophie Newcomb College and Tulane University law school in New Orleans in 1942. 
After practicing law a short while, she was married to Dr. Ben Cobb in 1943. 
After the war ended and Dr. Cobb finished his surgical training they came home 
to Monroe to practice surgery. During this time they became the parents of 5 
daughters. At this point Robertine was active in the medical auxiliary and she 
and Mrs. Burchall Liles helped Dr. Cobb and Dr. Liles to start NLU's school of 
nursing. Always, Robertine's love of farming kept her headed daily for the farm. 
After the death of her father, Robert Ray Rhymes in 1960, she and her sister 
Jane Rhymes Oliver managed the farm until their mother's death in 1982. After 
Dr. Cobb retired from the practice of surgery, the Cobbs moved to live in the 
family home on Boeuf River and Robertine continued to farm. Robertine was on the 
ground floor of the planning for the restoration of the Rhymes Library. This 
library is the oldest parish library in the state of Louisiana and is on the 
National Register of Historic Places. She served on the board of trustees since 
its formulation and also served on the board of trustees for the Richland Parish 
Library. She was a member of the Rayville United Methodist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert R. and Pearl Roark Rhymes, her 
husband Dr. Ben B. Cobb, her sister Jane Rhymes Oliver, her daughter Amanda Cobb 
Mott and grandson Joe Block Barham.

She is survived by her daughters- Roberta Joseph and husband, Colley, Janie 
Barham and husband, Andy, Bibb Ingram and husband, Carlos, Caroline Boggs and 
husband, Drexell; fourteen grandchildren-Cobb Morgan and wife, Shawn, Marlowe 
Barham and husband, Preston, Amiee Morgan, Benjamin Joseph, David Joseph and 
wife, Jamie, Joshua Joseph, Will Barham and wife Sara, Amanda Jane Vaughan and 
husband, Scott, Micah Barham and wife, Alex, Katie Rob Ambrose and husband, Wes, 
Stewart Ingram, Hunter Boggs and wife, Jackie, Walker Boggs and wife, Natalie, 
Thomas Boggs and wife Julie; fifteen great grandchildren and one great, great 
grandchild.
