Blue, La., died Thursday, November 27, at 5:25 a.m.

She is survived by her husband, Nary P. Babin, sons, Lonnie Babin and wife Mary, 
Terry Babin and wife Lisa and Jody Babin and wife Helen; daughter, Willa "Deane 
or Dee" Tabor and husband Lester; grandchildren, Chasity Authement and husband 
Everett, Angela Robinson and husband Ed and Lauren Babin; and great-
grandchildren, Spencer Authement and Brandon Robinson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dailey and Angela Gros Lambert; and 
brother, Stanley J. Lambert.

Joachim "Jock" Anthony Benoit Jr., 59, a native and resident of Houma, La., died 
at 2 p.m. Friday, November 28.

He is survived by three sisters Hilda Pitre, Anna Luke of Houma and Shirley 
Duplantis of Bourg, La.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joachim A. Benoit Sr. and Stella Verret 
Benoit.

He was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Russell "Bobby" Joseph Bergeron, 86, a native of Schriever, La., and a resident 
of Houma, La., died at 7:15 p.m. Friday, November 28.

He is survived by one son, Glenn Bergeron of Houma; four daughters, Mary 
Chancey, Karol Freeman and husband Laddie, Shelley Ann Crain and husband Greg of 
Houma, and Kathryn Hammons and husband Roger of Lake Jackson, Tx.; four sisters, 
Myron Dimaggio of Covington, La., Ruby Cormier of Thibodaux, La., Pat Bergeron 
and Bonnie Jean Thibodeaux of Houma; seven grandchildren; and three great-
grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June Poirrier Bergeron; his parents, Dewey 
Bergeron and Laura Ann Boudreaux Bergeron; and one sister, Jackie Duhe.

He was a retired manager for Republic Supply and a U.S. Air Force veteran, 
serving during the Korean War and World War II. He was a parishioner of St. 
Gregory Catholic Church.

He was buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

Vernice Marie Vizier Brunies

Vernice Marie Vizier Brunies, 78, a native of Golden Meadow, La., and a resident 
of Grand Isle, La., passed away peacefully Thursday, November 27.

She is survived by her most beloved grandson, Richard Gary Brunies; two 
brothers, Harris and Curtis Vizier; one daughter-in-law, Theresa G. Brunies; two 
adopted granddaughters, Nikki B. Brunies and Dana B. Bernier; one adopted great-
granddaughter, Madison Brunies; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by the very recent loss of her only beloved and most 
cherished son, Gary William Brunies on Oct. 22; her husband, Richard H. Brunies 
Jr.; her parents, Felicien and Sylvia Esponge Vizier; and one brother, Adam 
Vizier.

Along with her family, she moved to Grand Isle at age 2 and remained a resident 
of the island until her death. Vern, as she was most commonly referred to, will 
always be remembered for her love of flowers and the yard work that went into 
tending them, and also the joy and pride she took in the decorating and the 
upkeep of her home. She loved animals, especially dogs and Gary's horse Jimbo. 
She was a homemaker most of her married life, only briefly working outside the 
home. She was a loyal, loving, devoted and doting wife, mother, grandmother, 
mother-in-law, godmother, aunt and friend. She whole-heartedly believed and 
trusted in her God and her Catholic faith. She will be greatly missed and always 
remembered.

She was buried at Our Lady of the Isle Catholic Church Cemetery.

Calvin "Sonny" Crochet, 71, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, La., died 
Wednesday November 26.

He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda Bourg Crochet; three 
children, Mark Allen Crochet and wife Susan of Houma, La., Stacy Crochet of 
Thibodaux, La., and Chad Michael Crochet of Morgan City; four grandchildren, 
Kristen Bergeron, Sadie Crochet, Cody Crochet and Carlie Crochet; his mother, 
Laura Guillot Crochet of Thibodaux; three sisters, Loretta Richard and husband 
Hilary, Catherine Naquin and husband Thomas and Madelyn Crochet; his brother-in-
law, Wayne Bourg and wife Agnes of Houma; and his sister-in-law, JoAnn Bourg 
Harrison and husband James of Victoria, Tx.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lamry "Pete" Crochet of Thibodaux; 
paternal grandparents Rosalie and Ferdinand Crochet of Stephensville, La.; and 
maternal grandparents Emily and Evariste Guillot of Morgan City.

He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where he served has a 
lector/commentator and extraordinary Eucharistic minister. He was a past Grand 
Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1373. He was a member of AARP and 
the U.S. Army National Guard, Company 1, BG. 156th Infantry. He was a valued 
employee of Frank's Motor Company for 42 years and Courtesy Motor Group for 6 
years. He was everyone's favorite mechanic. He will be dearly missed by all who 
knew him.

Interment was at Morgan City Mausoleum.

Leo Paul Dumas

Leo Paul Dumas, 90, a native and resident of Vacherie, La., died Wednesday, 
November 19, at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center in Thibodaux, La

He is survived by his son, Thaddeus Dumas; his wife, Brenda Dumas; two brothers, 
Russell and Anthony Dumas; two sisters, Mary Jane Freeman and Celeste James; 
five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rose Osborne Dumas; his first 
wife, Nelva O. Dumas; his second wife, Madelyn Schexnyder Dumas; four brothers, 
Harry, John, Hayward and Whitney Dumas Sr.; and three sisters, Agnes Wooden, 
Victorine Simon and Wilborine Steib.

A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he retired as a master sergeant 
after a 26-year career in the U.S. Army. He served in the invasion of Normandy, 
France, during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 565.
He was buried with full military honors at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church 
Cemetery in South Vacherie.

Linda Quebedeaux, 66, a native of Houma, La., and a resident of Morgan City, 
La., passed away Wednesday, November 26, in Morgan City.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Quebedeaux of Morgan City; three children, 
Robert Quebedeaux and wife Pamela of Labadieville, La., Melanie and husband 
Wayne Lemonier of New Orleans, La., and Timothy Quebedeaux of Morgan City; four 
grandchildren, Matthew Quebedeaux, Luke Lemonier, Lauren Lemonier and Marcus 
Bascle.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Kate Pitre.

She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the St. Mary Parish, AARP and 
Teche Regional Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary. Linda will always be remembered 
as a very loving wife and mother. She loved her family and was happiest when 
taking care of their needs. The sacrifice of doing for others was her true joy. 
Linda will be sadly missed by all those who loved this wonderful lady.

She was buried at St. Francis Mausoleum.

died Thursday, December 4, at 7:40 p.m.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Galjour Cheramie; parents, Leoca and 
Euziede Adams Cheramie; brothers, Andrew A. Cheramie and Mark J. Cheramie; and

He was a former oil worker, state trooper, hardware store owner, president of 
Cheramie Marsh Buggies for 54 years, and served on the board of directors for 
Citizens Bank, First Interstate Bank, Argent Bank and Hibernia Bank. He was a 
member of the Cattleman's Association and enjoyed raising cattle, hunting, 
fishing and gardening. He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in 
Cut Off.

Church and a member of the Holy Name Society.

Thibodaux, La., died Saturday, December 6.

He is survived by one daughter, Jo Ann Delaune Faslund and husband John; 
grandchildren, Dionne Faslund Smith and husband Brian and Brent Anthony Faslund 
and wife Michele; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Brittany and JoLee Faslund; and 
step-great-grandchildren, Alexis Kraemer and Austin Naquin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie Richard Delaune; his parents, 
Joseph Delaune and Victoria Clause Delaune; one great-grandchild, Blaine Michael 
Faslund; and four sisters, Hilda D. Reed, Nora D. Guillot, Alice D. Prendergest 
and Jeanne D. Boudreaux.

He was owner/operator of Delaune's Mobil for 23 years. He will be missed by 
family and friends.

Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 10, at Christ the 
Redeemer Catholic Church with mass to follow. He will be buried at St. Joseph

Amanda Rita Ellender Hummel, 87, a native and resident of Pointe-Aux-Chenes, 
died at 5:00 p.m. Friday, December 5.

She is survived by four sons, George A. Hummel Jr., and wife Shirlene, Paul A. 
Hummel and wife Iliana, Thomas A. Hummel and wife Susan and Timothy A. Hummel 
and wife Sheri; one daughter, Diane H. Taub and husband Leon; one sister, Wilma 
E. Brown; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, George A. Hummel Sr.; her 
parents, Harrison Ellender and Margueritte Guidry Ellender; one son, Gerald 
Hummel; one brother, Harrison "Dooney" Ellender; and one sister, Hilda Ellender.

She retired in Pointe-Aux-Chenes 30 years ago in her parents home. She was a 
retired registered nurse and a graduate of Charity Hospital in New Orleans, La. 
She also helped serve as a nurse to family and friends all her life. She was a 
member of the Lions Club, a Eucharist Minister, a Lector, a religion teacher in 
her parish and a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic 
Church.

In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, December 8, at Chauvin Funeral Home 
and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass

Joseph Norbert Himel, 83, a native of Chackbay, La., and a resident of 
Thibodaux, La., died at 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, December 9.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ethel Barrilleaux Himel; two 
daughters, Vicki Himel Hebert and husband Emile Jr., and Kathi Himel Melancon; 
four grandchildren, Joey Nicole Hebert, Brent Joseph Melancon, Jeri Hebert 
Austin and husband Jeremy and Jennifer Melancon Naquin and husband Clint; one 
great-grandchild, Chaz Thomas Daigle; and two sisters, Beatrice H. Easley and 
Doris H. Aucoin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Clement Himel and Walter Himel; 
four sisters, Elva H. Chiasson, Anna Moe H. Raziano, Delores H. Porrier and 
Gertrude H. Owens; two brothers, Edward Himel and Norman Himel; and one son-in-
law, Harold "Moon" Melancon.

He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Breton during World War II and was a 
member of the Thibodaux Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American 
Legion. He was a member of West Thibodaux Fire Company.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Disabled American 
Veterans or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, December 12, at St. Joseph Co-
Cathedral in Thibodaux with mass to follow. Burial will be at the church

He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Laurella Duplantis LeCompte; two

John P. Levron Sr.

John P. Levron, Sr. passed away Wednesday, December 10, at the War Veterans Home 
in Reserve, La., at the age of 82.

John was a life long resident of Schriever, La. He served in the Army for 10 
years and was a sergeant at the end of his tour. He was a World War II veteran 
and received several Medals of Honor while serving.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Eunice Simoneaux Levron. Together they 
have four children, John Peter Levron, Jr., husband of Katrina B. Levron, Linda 
L. Blanchard, wife of Larry Blanchard and Alice L. Blanchard; one brother, 
Rodney Levron; one sister Stella Peltier; eight grandchildren; and four great 
grandchildren.

Mr. Levron was preceded death by his son Larry Levron; his parents; four 
brothers; and one sister.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday December 13, at St. Joseph Co- 
Cathedral in Thibodaux, La., with mass to follow. Burial will be at St. Bridget

Tiges J. Martin, 82, a native of Golden Meadow, La., and a resident of Larose, 
La., died at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, December 9.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lois Ledet Martin; two sons, Murphy 
Martin and Michael Martin; one daughter, Mary Loupe and husband Vern; three

He was a retired Lafourche Parish employee and a U.S. Army veteran of World War 
II. He received the Purple Heart and Silver Star and was a member of the V.F.W., 
American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and 
traveling and was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church.

Alexie J. Plaisance Jr., 71, a native and resident of Golden Meadow, La., died 
Wednesday, December 10, at 10:40 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene I. Plaisance, sons, Alexie and Richard 
Plaisance; daughters, Desiree Plaisance, Gert Gallier, Lisa Trosclair, Denise 
Higgins, Jessica Plaisance and Stephanie Costello; 24 grandchildren; and 14 
great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexie Sr. and Gertrude D. Plaisance; 
brothers, J. Wayne Plaisance and Kip J. Plaisance Sr.; and grandchild, Ashley 
Costello.

He was the owner/president of John Plaisance & Sons Wetlands Management and Fur 
buying firm founded in the 1920's by his grandfather. He was a member of the 
Knights of Columbus and a former member of the Millennium Port Commission. He 
was a past president of Restore or Retreat Inc., the Louisiana Land Owners 
Association, the Louisiana Intracoastal Seaway Association, Nicholls Alumni 
Federation, Nicholls Student Government Association, and the Golden Meadow Lions 
Club. He was a former zone chairman for the Lions Club International, and a 
former director of the Lafourche Parish Chapter of the American Red Cross. He 
served with the Lafourche Parish Police Jury in 1966 and 1967 and the Lafourche 
Parish School Board 1966-1972.

He had a great love and passion for our wetlands and dedicated himself to 
seeking restoration solutions and funding. In particular he was one of the 
founders of "Restore or Retreat" an organization of individuals working on the 
development of the "Third Delta Channel" which would rebuild our valuable 
wetlands. It has been his dream and prayer that this be accomplished.

He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in Golden Meadow.

Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, December 15, at Our Lady of Prompt 
Succor Church with mass to follow. Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Josephine "Nanny" Junot of Houma, Nellie Giblaint of Mobile, Al., and the late 
Beaulah Toups; grandmother of George Falcon Sr., Stacie Kilgore, Gretta Jo 
Calongne, Jaime Stuart, Stephani Siddon, Sarah Guidroz, Sheri Guidroz, Erika

Her greatest legacy was the love of her family and her deep and undying faith

Catholic Church. She was the former President of the St. Francis Ladies Alter 
Society and member for 30 years. She was also a member of the American Legion 
Society The F.O.P. Auxiliary. She was the recipient of the Bishop's Medal for 
her dedication to the Catholic church. She was salutatorian of her graduating 
class at St. Francis de Sales Academy in 1933. She graduated from South 
Louisiana Business College in New Orleans in 1934.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian 
Burial at 11 a.m. Monday, December 15, at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral in 
Houma. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday December 14, at Chauvin

Beatrice Darcey Babin,

Beatrice Darcey Babin, 97, died peacefully at Heritage Manor of Houma, La., 
Tuesday, December 9.

She is survived by one sister, Lucille Cunningham; two nephews, Ronald 
Cunningham and Kenneth Darcey; two nieces, Carol Cunningham and Jeanette Darcey 
Savoie; as well as several beloved great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip Babin; her parents, Jules and 
Julia Darcey; three brothers, Vesta, Milton and Nolan Darcey; one nephew, 
Charles Cunningham; and one great-nephew, Craig Cunningham.

In 1943, Bea and her brother Nolan bought Bob's Cafˇ on Main Street in Houma. 
Bea took on the task of doing all the cooking. As World War II raged on, 
servicemen from nearby military bases frequented Bob's Cafˇ for delicious and 
economical plate lunches. Because of her soft heart and charitable nature, a 
request for something to eat was never refused to those who could not pay. After 
her marriage, her husband, Philip, helped manage the cafˇ with her. Little Bea 
stayed with the work she loved until failing health forced her to give it up in 
her mid-80s. Beatrice will always be remembered for her generosity and kindness 
to others. She will be sorely missed by the family she leaves behind.

Private funeral services for family and friends will be at a later date.

VFW, Auxiliary No. 5097 and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, National Unit. 
She was Catholic and a parishioner of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church where 
she was an honorary member of Christ the Redeemer's Ladies Altar Society. She 
was a BISCO Leader and recipient of the Angel Award.

Odette Breaux

Miss Odette Breaux, 99, was called home by the Lord Monday, December 15, after 
suffering a stroke at St. Martin's Home in Baltimore, Md.

She was born in Mathews, La., and lived in Lockport, La., and New Orleans, La., 
where she was a medical technician for Dr. Perret and Dr. Nix. After retiring, 
she lived at Peace Lakes Towers and then at Mary Joseph Residence. Following 
Katrina, she lived in Baltimore where she was lovingly cared for by the Little 
Sisters of the Poor.

Miss Breaux is survived by her brother, Henry Anthony Breaux and numerous nieces 
and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Octavia Olivia Dalferes and Henry 
Joseph Breaux; and her sisters, Annette Bertaut, Bertha Hauck, Ursula Chauvin, 
Argentine Zeringue and Eleanor Thuer.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Little Sisters of 
the Poor, 601 Maiden Choice Lane, Baltimore, Md. 21228-3698.

She was a parishioner of St. Gertrude Catholic Church.

She was buried at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Des Allemands.

Larson J. "BaBa" Toups

Larson J. "BaBa" Toups, 78, a native and resident of Golden Meadow, La., died 
Saturday, December 27, at 12:18 a.m.

He is survived by his wife, Elma Crosby Toups; son, Terry "Poncho" Toups; 
daughters, Susan Ann Toups Frierson and Jennifer Anne Toups Barbour; step-
daughters, Charlotte St. Pierre Lee, Sherry St. Pierre Edwards, Kathy St. Pierre 
Collins and Gail Cline Allemand; sister, Nelda Toups Cheramie; 13 grandchildren; 
and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eloi and Elmire St. Pierre Toups; 
brothers, Paris, Lorris, Rene, Antoine Waldo, Constant Tony and Velton Toups; 
and sisters, Cherita Toups Vizier, Gosta Toups Griffin and Velma Toups.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, OLPS Holy Name Society. He enjoyed 
fishing, hunting, Cajun music and casinos. He loved his family and enjoyed all 
his grandchildren. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in 
Golden Meadow.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, December 29, at Our Lady of Prompt 
Succor Church with the funeral service to follow. He will be buried at Williams 
Cemetery in Golden Meadow.

Joan Boudreaux Posadas

Joan Boudreaux Posadas, 60, a native and resident of Houma, La., died Friday, 
December 26, at 6:36 a.m.

She is survived by her mother, Gertrude Chauvin Byrd; daughters, Daisey 
Moncivais and Marika Boudreaux; and sisters, Elaine Tabor, Judy Benoit and 
Laurie Naquin.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wester J. Boudreaux and wife Peggy; and 
step-father, Mantell H. Byrd.

No services are scheduled.

Samart Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of the arrangements.
