Mrs. Anna B. Barton Buried At Sardis Saturday, Mar. 12

Mrs. Anna Bell Barton, 83, of Gilbert, La., died March 11, 1960, in a
Winnsboro clinic after a long illness.  She was a native of Winn Parish and
was the sister of W. T. Collins of Rt. 1, Winnfield.

Funeral services were held at Gilbert March 12, with burial in Brown Cemetery,
Sardis.

Survivors include her husband, J. E. Barton, Gilbert; four sons, Morgan
Barton, Baton Rouge, Elmer Barton, Winnsboro, Johnnie Barton, Gilbert, Thomas
Barton, Gilbert; two daughters, Mrs. Warren Flowers, Gilbert, and Mrs. Harvey
McGlaughlin, Gilbert; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two
brothers, R. F. Collins, Gilbert, and W. T. Collins, Rt. 1, Winnfield

Mrs. Anna Bell Barton
Death claimed Mrs. Anna Bell Barton, 83-year-old homemaker of Gilbert, in a local 
clinic at 12 noon Friday. Her final illness was lengthy.
Born November 21, 1876 at Winnfield, Mrs. Barton was a member of First Baptist 
church of Gilbert.
She is survived by her husband, J. E. Barton, Gilbert; four sons, Morgan Barton, 
Baton Rouge, Elmer Barton, Winnsboro, and Johnnie and Thomas Barton, both of 
Gilbert; two daughters, Mrs. Warren Flowers and Mrs. Harvey McLaughlin, both of 
Gilbert; 15 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; two brothers, 
R. S. Collins, Gilbert, and W. T. Collins, Winnfield.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Cecil Flowers, Lynn Barton, Billie Barton, 
Phillip Barton, Leroy Barton and Gary Don Barton.
Funeral services took place at 10 a.m. March 12 at First Baptist church of 
Gilbert. The Revs. J. T. Halley, Wilburn Hoglen and Joe Mongle officiated.
Interment was in Brown cemetery south of Winnfield.

Joseph H. Bryan
 
A native of Franklin parish who would have been 95 years old 
on his next birthday on April 16 died today.  Born the year 
the Civil War ended, Joseph H. Bryan of Sicily Island will be 
interred in Pine Hill cemetery after services at the Sicily 
Island Methodist church at 11 a.m. Friday, The Revs. J. W. 
Boyd and Robert Houston will officiate.  Survivors are four 
daughters, Mrs. M. Earl Denham and Mrs. S. Edward Trichel, 
both of Baton Rouge, Mrs. B. C. Glasgow, Akron, Ohio, and 
Mrs. W. R. Carter, Sicily Island; two brothers, Benjamin Bryan, 
San Antonio, Tex., and Ernest Bryan, Baton Rouge; a sister, 
Mrs. R. J. Prickett, Winnsboro; several grandchildren, great 
grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.  His wife, 
who died in 1953 was Mrs. Mamie Bennett Bryan.

Edward F. Byrnes, Sr.
Funeral services for Edward Fletcher Byrnes, Sr. 73, of route one, 
Wisner, were conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Central Baptist church. 
Officiating were the Revs. Tom Ratcliff, Joe Silvio and Enon Boyette.
Masonic services followed at the graveside in Central cemetery.
Mr. Byrnes, who died March 14 at his home, was born October 18, 
1886 at Wisner.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Ethel Byrnes; three sons, Edward F. Byrnes, Jr., 
Winnsboro, Sam Byrnes, Shreveport, and Bill Byrnes, Doyline; five daughters, 
Mrs. Carrie Carter, Doyline, Mrs. Jessie Mae Woodard, South Carolina, 
Mrs. Emma Blount, Mansfield, Mrs. Myrtle Rials, Wisner, and 
Mrs. James Hudson, Lake Providence.

Mrs. Ella Davis Day
 
A resident of Winnsboro since childhood, Mrs. Ella Davis Day 
died March 22 at 3 a.m. in a local rest home after a lengthy 
illness.  Funeral services were held at Wayside Pentecostal 
church at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. W. T. Hemphill 
officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. C. Boothe.  Interment was 
in Wayside cemetery.  Survivors are two sons, Raleigh Day, 
Winnsboro, and Marl Day, Oakland, Calif; two brothers, Coleman 
and Walter Davis, both of Winnsboro; four grandchildren and 
two great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers were D.Q. Liles, 
Jim Favors, Marvin Lupo, L. A. Scott, Holland Wollerson and 
Alton Wollerson.

Janie Dixon
Funeral services for Janie Dixon, 84-year-old resident of Winnsboro, 
were held at Lone Cedar Baptist church at 2 p.m. Wednesday. 
The Revs. C. W. Jones and Jesse Booth officiated.
Burial was in Lone Cedar cemetery.
A member of Lone Cedar Baptist church, Mrs. Dixon died Tuesday at 
Riley Nursing home. She was a native of Mississippi, having been 
born there on April 4, 1876.
Mrs. Dixon leaves a daughter, Mrs. Lena Keene of Winnsboro; a son, 
L. C. Dixon, Winnsboro; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Dixon, Winnsboro, 
and Mrs. Julia Jones, Minden Hall, Miss.; a brother, Ed Brown, 
Winnsboro; two grandchildren, three great grandchildren and 
several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Lonnie Polk, Earl Smith, Bubba Smith, 
Angles Myers, Clarence Riley and Ermon Riley.

Julia Minette Fowler
 
Julia Minette "Judy" Fowler ill with systic fibrosis all of 
her brief life, died in a Monroe hospital at 5:25 p.m. Friday.  
Just seven years old, Judy was the daughter of Mr. and 
Mrs. J. D. Fowler of Winnsboro, and a second grader at 
Winnsboro school.   Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. 
Saturday at First Baptist church.  The Rev. Clarence Young 
officiated.  Interment was in Ogden cemetery.  In addition 
to her parents, Judy leaves a younger sister, Jennie, Winnsboro; 
paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Y. Fowler, Winnsboro; 
materal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Gill, Winnsboro; and 
a number of aunts and uncles.  Pallbearers were Albert Hill, 
Earl Grayson, Newt Winters and James Osborn.

Mrs. Tobiatha Ann Fowler
 
Mrs. Tobiatha Ann Fowler, resident of Liddieville community 
since 1918, died this morning at the home of her son, Ervin, 
in Tallulah,  She was 86 years old, having been born August 22, 
1874 in Caldwell Parish.  A Methodist, Mrs. Fowler is survived 
by four sons, W. L. , J. Y., and Ellzey P. Fowler, all of 
Winnsboro, a sister, Mrs. Fannie Tullos, Monroe; two brothers, 
A. L. Bannister, Brookhaven, Miss., and J. T. Bannister, 
Oak Grove; 18 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a 
host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Funeral 
arrangements had not been completed when the Sun went to 
press this noon.

Katie Elizabeth Graney
 
Mrs. Katie Elizabeth Graney, Winnsboro homemaker, died Monday 
at Rogers clinic.  A native of Franklin parish, she was 88 years 
old.  Funeral services were held at Lone Pine Baptist church 
at 3 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Sardis Bever officiating.  
Interment was in Crowville cemetery.  Mrs. Graney is survived 
by three sons, W. K. Graney and C. D. Graney, both of Winnsboro, 
and J. W. Graney, Magnolia, Ark,; six grandchildren and 11 
great-grandchildren.  Pallbearers were Oliver Poland, B. T. Spell, 
Coleman Killian, Lawrence Shivers, Otis Shivers and Clarence Clark.

W. Brown McLemore Sr.
 
William Brown McLemore, Sr., prominent planter and livestock 
dealer of Gilbert, died at his home at 4 a.m. March 29.  
His final illness was lengthy.  Born February 14, 1900 at 
Kirby, Miss.,  Mr.  McLemore had made his ;home at Gilbert 
for about 40 years.  He was a member of the First Baptist 
church of Gilbert.  Final rites for Mr. McLemore were conducted 
at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist church in Gilbert, with 
the Revs. R. L. Cook and J. T. Halley officiating.  Interment 
in Oakley cemetery followed.  Surviving Mr. McLemore are his 
wife Mrs. Maurice. McLemore, Gilbert; a son, W. B. McLemore, Jr., 
Gilbert; two brothers, Kirby McLemore, Monroe, and Richard 
McLemore, Gilbert; his stepmother, Mrs. Amanda Halford, Gilbert.  
Pallbearers were E. L. Tackel, Travis Trapp, D. Johnson, 
O. S. Newman, S. C. Corbin, Allen Cupit, Ed Cupit and James Monroe.

Mrs. Melissia B. Milby
Mrs. Melissia B. Milby, resident of Lone Cedar community since childhood, 
died at 9:05 a.m. March 11 in a Monroe hospital. She had been ill about 
a week with pneumonia.
Born April 3, 1886 at Winnfield, Mrs. Milby was 73 years old. She was a 
member of Lone Cedar Baptist church, where funeral services took place 
at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Rev. Bobby Brown officiated at final rites. Interment was in Lone Cedar cemetery.
Survivors of Mrs. Milby are three sons, Ramage Milby and Claude Milby, 
both of Winnsboro; and Monroe Milby, Shreveport; two daughters, Mrs. C. A. Hammett, 
West Monroe, and Mrs. S. C. Stephenson, Baskin; a brother, Arnold Boyett, Baskin; 
two sisters, Mrs. Henry Jones, Fort Necessity, and Mrs. Ivy Broom, West Monroe; 
23 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were J. O. Smith, L. D. Burns, Clifton Lord, Bob Parker, 
Howard Leach and Luther Herring.

Alfred Eugene Moody
 
Alfred Eugene Moody, 40 year old resident of route one, Baskin,
 died Friday at Alexandria after a lengthy illness.  Surviving 
him are his wife, Mrs. Lola Belle Moody; six children, Glenda Faye, 
Bobbie Nell, Dixie Elizabeth, Alfred, Jr., Lola Dianne, and 
Kittie Irene Moody, all of route one, Baskin; three sisters, 
Mrs. Nettie Crout, Hodge, Mrs Edna Wise, Jonesboro, and 
Mrs. Nannie Fife, Baskin; two brothers, Edgar Moody, Urania, 
and George Moody, Forrest, Miss.,  The veteran of World War II 
was interred in Lone Cherry cemetery, Mangham, after funeral 
services at United Pentecostal church, Lone Cedar Road, at 11 am. 
Sunday,  The Revs. David Mayo and J. A. Hawthorne officiated.  
Pallbearers were Louis Fuller, Wilton Crawford,Hulen Crout, 
J. D. Brasher, Luther Watts, W. E. Moody, Frank Earl Rhinehart 
and Clyde Butler.

William Ludrick Oser
 
Funeral services for William Ludrick Oser of Fort Necessity were 
held at 2 p.m. today at Fort Necessity Baptist church, with the 
Rev. T. T. Edwards officiating.  Born October 7, 1896 at 
Liddieville, Mr. Oser had lived at Fort Necessity for 25 years.  
He was a farmer by occupation and a member of Boeuf River 
Baptist church.  He died March 30 at a local clinic.  Burial 
was in the Ogden cemetery.  Surviving Mr. Oser are his wife, 
Mrs.Bessie Oser, Oklahoma; three sons, Warren Oser, Fort Necessity, 
Bruce Oser, Oklahoma, and Darious Oser, Bastrop; seven daughters, 
Mrs. Ruby Bankston, Mrs. Minnie Bonner and Mrs. Lucille Jones, 
all of Fort Necessity, Mrs. Lyvonne Spence and Mrs. Billie Rice, 
both of Oklahoma, Mrs. Alice Page and Miss Barbara Oser both of 
Bastrop; a brother, Henry Oser, Columbia; and 32 grandchildren.

William Henry Smith
 
William Henry Smith, 63-year-old resident of Liddieville, died at the Winnsboro 
sanitarium Tuesday morning. He had been hospitalized about a week.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Smith were conducted at the Young's Funeral chapel at 2 p.m. 
Wednesday, with the Revs. Jimmy Hipp and L. F. LaPrairie officiating.
 
Interment followed in Ogden cemetery.
 
Surviving Mr. Smith are his wife, Mrs. Henrietta Smith, Liddieville; two daughters, Mrs. 
Cynthia DeBlieux, Winnsboro, and Mrs. Bernard Hastings, Newellton; three sons, William J., 
Wisner, Willie T., Oak Ridge, and Edward, Jonesville; two brothers, John W. Smith, Jena, 
and B. Taft Smith, Winnsboro; and seven grandchildren.
 
Pallbearers were Barney Cottingham, Aubrey Browder, Price Turnage, Garvis Bennett, O. S. Welch, 
and Claude Lupo.
 
The Ogden High school science fair, slated for Monday night, was called off after Mr. Smith's death. 
His daughter, Mrs. DeBlieux, is a teacher at the school.

T. J. Temple
 
Final rites for T. J. Temple, 66 year old resident of Egypt, 
were conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Magnolia Baptist church 
near Winnsboro, The Rev. Lavelle Enterkin officiated, assisted 
by the Rev. A. N. Baum  Burial was in Harris cemetery near 
Winnsboro.  Born March 31, 1893 at Laurel, Miss.,  Mr. Temple 
farmed during his lifetime.  He had lived at Egypt for 36 years, 
and was a member of Magnolia Baptist Church.  He died suddenly at 
his home Monday.  Mr. Temple is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma 
Welch Temple, Egypt; a son Ray Temple, Winnsboro; three 
grandchildren; three brothers, Lonnie, C. C. And D. F. Temple, 
all of Winnsboro; a sister, Mrs. J. B. Kimbrough, Winnsboro, 
and Mrs. B. A. Wright, Georgetown.  Pallbearers were J. B. 
Etheridge, Sr.,  Pete Etheridge, W. B. Reeves, Charlie Brent, 
Bill Ferguson, M. P. Welch.  Deacons of Magnolia Baptist church 
and Dr. Sam Carriere were honorary pallbearers.

Turnage infant
The infant of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Turnage of Baskin was interred in 
Pleasant Hale cemetery after brief ceremonies by the Rev. Bob Nobles.
The baby, born March 14 at Rayville, lived just three hours.
Survivors are the parents, a sister, Geneva L. Turnage, Baskin, and 
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Turnage and Mr. and Mrs. Lonzo Nobles, Mangham.

Mrs. Mary Urso
 
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Urso of Jeanerette, mother of 
Mrs. Joe Sontino of Winnsboro, were held this week.  Mr. and 
Mrs. Sontino and daughters, Mrs. Rita Kincaid and Mary Virginia, 
have returned home after attending the funeral.  In addition to 
Mrs. Sontino,  Mrs. Urso is survived by five daughters and a son, 
Mrs. Lena Miceli, Mrs. Pat Spencer, Mrs. Louis Amorelli, 
Charlie Urso, Mrs. James Bryant and Mrs. Sam Renaudo; and 
six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, 
Mrs. Phil Palastera; and a brother, Joe Viscuso.
