Effie Mae Goff Raines, 84, of Powells Creek, died Saturday, Dec.  12, 1998, at 
Pikeville Methodist Hospital. She was born in  Pikeville, April 20, 1914, a daughter 
of the late Andrew  Jackson and Lady Alice Adkins Goff.  She was a homemaker and a 
member of the Grassy Freewill Baptist Church of Raccoon.  She was preceded in death by 
her husband, Bigger Raines, who  died in 1982; and one daughter, Phyllis Ann Raines.  
She is  survived by three sons, Howard Raines and Paul Raines, both of  Pikeville, 
Jack Raines of Chicago; eight daughters, Margie  Chaney, Dena McCown, Patty Hall and 
Judy Raines, all of  Pikeville, Ronda Hill of Powells Creek, Rita Pugh of Chicago, 
Sue Rogers of Morganton, N.C., Sylvia Daniels of Kingston,  Tenn.; three brothers, 
John Goff of Danville, George Goff of Indianapolis, Alden Goff of Shelbiana; 23 
grandchildren and 12great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. 
Tuesday, Dec. 15, at the  Grassy Creek Freewill Baptist Church with Herbert Goff and 
Brother Bostic officiating. Burial followed in Johnson Memorial  Park, Pikeville. 
Arrangements were under direction of Lucas & Hall Funeral Home of Pikeville.  
Pallbearers were Larence Hall,  Ira Hill, Arthur Pugh, Peter Raines, Nathan Raines, 
James  Darreyl Ratliff, Jeff Ratliff and Steve Stanley. 


Benjamin Harrison Auxier Jr., 72, of Stanford, died Tuesday, Dec.  15, 1998, at 
Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington.  He was born in  Pike County, a son of the late 
Benjamin Harrison and Roberta Gaines  Auxier.  He was a self-employed piano and organ 
technician and  a gunsmith, and was a member of the Danville Presbyterian Church. 
He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Kelly McCubbins Auxier.  He is survived by 
his ex-wife, Margaret Edmonds Auxier of Stanford;  two sons, Ben H. Auxier III of 
Nicholasville and George Daniel  Auxier of Stanford; one daughter, Roberta Auxier 
Adams of  Campbellsburg; one sisters, Marianne Auxier Kirby of Danville;  four 
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Private services were held.  Memorials may 
be sent to Shriners'  Children's Hospital of Lexington. 


Lee Adkins, 38, of Lebanon, Va., formerly of Pikeville, died  Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, 
at the Lebanon Medical Center, following  a three-year illness.  He was born Sept. 8, 
1960, a son of Roy  Lee Pinson of Bellview, Fla., and Priscilla Anderson of Pikeville. 
He was a truck driver.  He was preceded in death by Geneva Rice  and his grandparents, 
Harold and Mary Adkins.  He is survived by  his stepfather, Eldee Anderson; his wife, 
Ollie Marlene Adkins; one son, Brandon Lee Adkins of Lebanon; one daughter, Marlena 
Hope Adkins of Lebanon; one sister, Susie Stiltner of Grundy, Va.; four stepbrothers, 
Darrell Anderson, Bennie Anderson and Gregory Anderson, all of Kimper, James Anderson 
of Belfry; and  one stepsister, Connie Folley of Belfry. Funeral services will be held 
at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18, in the  Pike County Chapel with Dean Lyons and Randall Good 
officiating.  Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery at East Shelbiana. 
Arrangements are under direction of Justice Funeral Services - Pike County Chapel of 
Zebulon. 


Jimmy Justice, 47, of Wyandotte, Mich., died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at the 
Cleveland Clinic.  He was born in Pikeville, July 3, 1951, a son of William and Ruby 
Ratliff Justice of Clay City. He was employed by the Chrysler Corporation, Trenton 
Engine Plant for 30 years and was a member of the Church of Christ. He is survived by 
his wife, Sara George Justice; two sons, Jimmy Justice Jr. of Alabama and Dwayne 
Justice of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Justice of the home; one brother, Billy 
Jack Justice of Clay City; one sister, Helena Justice of Clay City; and two
grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the Stark 
Funeral Service Moore Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery. 
Arrangements are under direction of Stark FuneralServices of Ypsilanti, Mich. 


Debra Lynn Estes, 42, a resident at the Phelps Nursing Home in Phelps, died Wednesday, 
Dec. 16, 1998, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital. She was born in Pike County, March 16, 
1956, a daughter of Dorothy Stiltner Reynolds and the late Lonnie Harrison Reynolds. 
She was a homemaker and member of the Woodland Baptist Church, Winston-Salem, N.C. She 
is survived by one daughter, Jessica NicoleRobinson of Winston Salem; three brothers, 
Lonnie Randall Reynolds of Elkhorn City, Dallas Gene Reynolds and Jessie Lee Reynolds, 
both of Grapevine three sisters, Loretta Reynolds, Nyoka Casey and Lisa Dillard, all 
of Winston Salem; and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. 
Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at the Upper Grapevine Church of Christ with Willie Abshire 
and Howard Pugh officiating. Burial will follow in the Reynolds Cemetery at Phyllis.

Clyde C. (Mounts) Raines, 64, of Lester, W.Va., formerly of the Freeburn area, died 
Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, at the Columbia Raleigh Hospital in Beckley, W.Va. 
He was born in Pike County, Feb. 22, 1934, a son of the late Mitch Mount Jr. and 
Leatha McClanahan Layne. He was of the Apostolic Faith. He is survived by one 
daughter, Evelyn Gail Stanley;and one brother, Arnold Mounts. Graveside services will 
be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Barn Hollow Cemetery at Freeburn. 
Arrangements are under direction of Phelps Funeral Services of Phelps. 


Minerva Stallard, 98, of New Carlisle, Ohio, formerly of Williamson, W.Va., died 
Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at the Heartland of Beaver Creek Health Care Center, Dayton, 
Ohio, following an apparent stroke. She was born June 3, 1900, a daughter of the late 
Howard and Ollie Bevins Hatfield.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in
Williamson, W.Va.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter David Stallard, 
who died April 4, 1978; and three children who died in infancy. She is survived by 
seven sons, Walter Stallard Jr. of Lake Wylie, S.C., Douglas Lawson Stallard of 
Kettering, Ohio, Herbert Stallard and Ronnie Lee Stallard, both of New Carlisle, Ohio, 
Glen Stallard of Xenia, Ohio, Howard Stallard of Williamson, W.Va., Bernard Parker
Stallard of Central, Utah; five daughters, Mable Virginia Dague of New Carlisle, 
Florence Clementine Pohl of LeHigh Acres, Fla., Iris Anne Gooslin of Williamson, Ollie 
Sue Scott of Belfry, Ruth Aileen Bevins of Waterford, Mich.; one sister, Mildred 
Burris of Frankfort;31 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and six great-great-
grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, in the

Cora Johnson, 83, of Elkhorn City, formerly of Marrowbone, died at 9:44 a.m. Saturday, 
Dec. 26, 1998, at Pikeville Methodist Hospital.  She was born at Yeager, Oct. 23, 
1915, a daughter of the late Fabe and Virgie Gibson Brown.  She was a homemaker and 
member of the Church of Christ.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert
Johnson.  Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, in the Justice 
Chapel with James Branham officiating. Burial followed in Johnson Memorial Park at 
Pikeville. Arrangements were under direction of Justice Funeral Services of Pikeville. 


Martin Columbus Adams, 80, of Lebanon, Va., formerly of Elkhorn City, died Saturday, 
Dec. 26, 1998, at the Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.  He was born in Pike 
County, July 17, 1918, a son of the late Babe and Ollie Mae Fleming Adams. He was a 
retired coal miner and a World War II Army veteran. He is survived by his wife, Jessie 
Levall Baker Adams; four sons, Martin Roy Adams and Billy Louis Adams, both of 
Addison, Ill., Robert Eugene Adams of Hanover Park, Ill., Danny Gene Adams of Lebanon; 
three daughters, Marilyn Beuse of Franklin Park, Ill., Linda Kay Pahnke of Machesney 
Park, Ill., Ollie Irene Adams Parks of Lebanon; one sister, Opal Marie Adams Frank of
Hartville, Ohio; and 15 grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, 
Dec. 29, 1998, at Sweet Home Regular Baptist Church with Dallas Ramsey officiating. 
Burial followed in the Elkhorn City Cemetery at Elkhorn City. Arrangements were under
direction of Bailey Funeral Home of Elkhorn City. 


Jack Looney, 71 of Hellier, died at 2:31 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Central 
Baptist Hospital in Lexington.  He was born in Pike County, March 12, 1927, a son of
the late Miles Fenis and Mary Bowling Looney.  He was a retired coal miner. He is 
survived by two sons, Bobby Looney of Little Creek and Herbert "Rick" Looney of 
Indianapolis; one daughter, Kathy White of Cynthiana; one sister, Clara Wright of 
Caney Highway; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will 
be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the Samaria Old Regular Baptist Church,
Wolfpit, with Old Regular Baptist ministers officiating and burial following in the 
Childers Cemetery at Bowling Fork. Arrangements are under direction of Bailey Funeral
Home of Elkhorn City. 



Thomas Duty, 68, of Lookout, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at his home.  He was born in 
Pike County, June 2, 1930, a son of the late Delvy and Noma Adkins Duty.  He was a 
coal miner.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Roxie Rowe Duty. He is survived by 
two sons, Keith Duty of Hellier and Mike Duty of Mouthcard; two daughters, Teresa 
Justice of Lookout and Lisa Blankenship of Johns Creek; three brothers, Kenneth duty 
of Toledo, Ohio, Herbert Duty of Winchester, Danny Paul Duty of Rockhouse; one sister,
Diana Earl of Toledo; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Funeral 
services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 28, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with 
Gurney Bartley, Dallas Ramsey and Harold Ramey officiating. Burial followed in the 
family cemetery at Lookout. Arrangements were under direction of Bailey Funeral 
Home of Elkhorn City. 


Delores Ann Frazier, 57, of Phelps, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the Appalachian 
Regional Hospital in South Williamson.  She as born May 28, 1941, a daughter of the 
late Elijah and Rebecca Mounts Chapman.  She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Raymond 
Frazier; six sons, Carl R. Frazier, Bill Frazier, and Jimmy Frazier, all of Phelps, 
Charlie Frazier and Emerson Frazier, both of Columbus, Ohio, Troy Frazier of 
Greenbrier, W.Va.; six daughters, Rita Cook of Groveport, Ohio, Roberta Daniels of 
Freeburn, Debra Sincell and Para Blankenship, both of Phelps, Amanda Sullivan of 
Sevierville, Tenn., Helen Cook of Raysal, W.Va.; two brothers, Jimmy Chapman and Ervin 
Chapman, both of Phelps; and five sisters, Gertrude Scott and Madaline Dotson, both of
Elyria, Ohio, Betty Mounts and Mildred Chapman, both of Phelps, and Helen Norman of 
Freeburn. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the Phelps 
Free Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Darius Casey, Dewitt Furrow, Kenneth Chapman
and William Cornn officiating and burial following in the Chapman Cemetery, Bones 
Branch of Phelps. Arrangements are under direction of R.S. Jones & Son Funeral Home of 
Virgie. 



Ida Calhoun Belcher Johnson, 71, of Orland, Ind., formerly of Jonancy, died Friday, 
Dec. 25, 1998, at her home in Indiana.  She was born Sept. 2, 1927, a daughter of the 
late Enoch and Martha Sarah Calhoun.  She was retired in 1983 from Cover-All Rental in 
Fort Wayne, Ind.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Belcher, who died in 
1962, and her second husband, Hartman Johnson, in 1983.  She is survived by one 
daughter, Ann Jensen of Orland; three stepdaughters, Fern Tackett and Mary 
Williquette, both of Michigan, Brenda Ratliff of Fort Wayne; three brothers, McKinley 
Calhoun of Pikeville, Troy Calhoun of Fort Wayne, Charles Calhoun of New Haven, Ind.; 
four sisters, Virgie Magner and Letty Johnson, both of Fort Wayne, Braska Winters of 
Angola, Ind., Lois Adams of Virgie; one half-sister, Jean Fluharty of Wellsburg,
W.Va.; four grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. 
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, in the R.S. Jones & Son Funeral 
Home Chapel with Elder Carson Wright and others officiating. Burial followed in
Johnson Memorial Park at Pikeville. Arrangements were under direction of R.S. Jones & 
Son Funeral Home of Virgie. 


Albert Anderson Norman, 69, of McCarr, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the Appalachian 
Regional Hospital in South Williamson.  He was born in Pike County, Nov. 22, 1929, a 
son of the late John Anderson and Mary Pearl Blankenship Norman. He was a retired coal 
miner formerly employed by Rawl Sales.  He is survived by his wife, Lillian Coleman 
Norman; five sons, Albert Anderson Norman Jr. of Huntington, W.Va., Samuel Norman of 
Hendersonville, N.C., Christopher Norman of Edgarton, W.Va., Jessie Norman of Matewan,
W.Va., Fritz Allen Norman of McCarr; three daughters, Barbara Blankenship and Barbara 
Blankenship, both of Red Jacket, W.Va., Debbie Blankenship of Edgarton, W.Va.; two 
brothers, Paul Norman and Eugene Gross, both of Freeburn; three sisters, Virgie Fisher 
of Ohio, Joan Norman of Pikeville, Sylvia Farley of Catlettsburg; 11 grandchildren and 
one great-grandchild.  Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, in the

Velvia Justice Kidd, 76, of Harold, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Rockcastle 
Hospital in Mount Vernon.  She was born at Grethel, Jan. 4, 1922, a daughter of the
late D.P. and Virginia Hall Hamilton.  She was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death 
by her first husband, Greenbury Justice; and her second husband, Charlie Kidd. 
She is survived by four sons, D.P. Justice of Forest, Ohio, Ralph Justice and Ray 
Justice, both of Harold, Willard Kidd of McCarr; six daughters, Lora Johnson, Yvonne 
Carroll and Glenda Rogers, all of Harold, Dorothy Ratliff of Pikeville, Diana Hamilton 
of Prestonsburg, Tammy Hall of Stanville.  Two brothers, Antney Hamilton of Grethel 
and Bill Hamilton of Pikeville; two sisters, Maggie Mitchell of Grethel and Pearl 
Justice of Harold; one half-brother, Junior Hamilton of Grethel; two half-sisters, 
Bonnie Sue Martin of Grethel and Martha Ray of Michigan; 30 grandchildren, numerous 
great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held 
at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at the Upper Toler Church of Christ with Church of Christ
ministers officiating. Burial followed in the Justice Cemetery at Harold. Arrangements 
were under direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Martin. 


Eva Anna Mitchell Furman, 88, of Betsy Layne, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at her 
home.  She was born in Jennings, Mich., Jan. 2, 1910, a daughter of the late John 
Calvin and Edith Sarah Moyer Mitchell.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Mount 
Olive Missionary Church in Peoria, Ill.  She was preceded in death by her husband, the 
Rev. Clarence Hamilton Furman.  She is survived by four daughters, Mariedith Joy 
Meade, Elizabeth Susan Furman and Christine Furman, all of Betsy Layne, Mary Anna 
Blevins of Clyde, Ohio; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Funeral 
services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at the Pikeville Wesleyan Church with 
the Rev. Keith Biddle and the Rev. Tracy Patton officiating. Burial followed in 
Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel. Arrangements were under direction of Nelson-Frazier
Funeral Home of Martin. 


Walter K. Ayers, 61, of Rowlett, Texas, died at 7:19 a.m. Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at a 
medical center in Dallas, Texas.  He was born in Dewitt, Ark., Jan. 19, 1937, a son of
Opal Laney Ayers Kraft of Bowling Green and the late Walter R. Ayers. He was a 
Southern Baptist evangelist for 42 years and a member of the First Baptist Church in 
Sachse, Texas.  He is survived by his wife, Janice Moss Ayers; one son, Dixon Ayers; 
two daughters, Angel Thomas and Melody Walker; one brother, Floyd Ayers of Germany; 
one sister, Bonnie Ayers of Novak, Ark.; two half-brothers, Raymond Gaddis of Kentucky 
and John Gaddis of Mississippi; and nine grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at 
1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, at the First Baptist Church in Sachse. Arrangements were under

Roland Robinette, 67, of Road Fork Road, Hatfield, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at the 
Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson.  He was born in Pike County, Sept. 
3, 1931, a son of the late Elbert and Bertha Canada Robinette.  He was a heavy 
equipment operator and a member of the Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church. 
He is survived by his wife, Lucy Ella Young Robinette; two sons, Condar Robinette and 
Ronald Robinette, both of Hatfield; two daughters, Bertha Jean (Mrs. Danny) Reed of 
Turkey Creek and Linda (Mrs. Roger) May of Hatfield; one brother, Earl Robinette of 
Brushy; four sisters, Allie Mae Walters of Hatfield, Lucille McCoy of Texarcana, 
Texas, Eunice McCoy of Grand Prairie, Texas, Lizzie Blackburn of Canada; and six 
grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at the 
Pilgrim Home Old Regular Baptist Church with Regular Baptist ministers officiating. 
Burial will follow in the Robinette Cemetery at Brushy Creek. Arrangements are under

Patricia Ann Miller Skeens, 32, of Feds Creek, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at the 
University of Louisville Hospital.  She was born Sept. 14, 1966, a daughter of Hazard 
Miller of Feds Creek and Lois Taylor Ramey of Phyllis.  She is survived by her 
husband, Ronnie Dale Skeens of Feds Creek; her stepmother, Brenda Miller of Feds
Creek; her stepfather, Gary Ramey of Phyllis; one son, Lucus Cody Smith of Hurley, 
Va.; two daughters, Amanda Taylor of Mouthcard and Rhonda Little of Feds Creek; one 
brother, Greg Miller of Feds Creek; three sisters, Lisha Prater of Regina, Lisa 
Justice of Phyllis, Teresa Branham of Dorton; her paternal grandmother, Effie Miller 
of Feds Creek; and her maternal grandfather, Virgil Taylor.  Funeral services will be 
held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, in the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Nando
Mullins Jr. and Hollis Ratliff officiating. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery at

Dottie Ann Wilson, 65, of Coal Run, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at her home, following 
a sudden illness.  She was born in Pike County, Aug. 19, 1933, a daughter of the late 
Ernest and Gertrude Tackett Cheeks.  She was employed as the city clerk at Coal Run 
Village.  She is survived by two sons, Melvin H. Wilson Jr. of Pikeville and Mark 
Wesley Wilson of West Liberty; two brothers, Dusty Cheeks of Millard and Pete Cheeks 
of Wheelersburg, Ohio; and two sisters, Peggy Williamson of Flatwoods and Ernestine 
Huffman of Pikeville.  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, in 
the J.W. Call & Son Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in the Annie E. Young 
Cemetery at Shelbiana. Arrangements are under direction of J.W. Call & Son Funeral 
Home of Pikeville.   Pallbearers are Joey Huffman, Chuck Huffman, Kevin Hamilton, 
William J. "Bill Jack" Huffman and Dustin Cheeks.  Honorary pallbearers are Mike

Fred Delano Martin, 61, of Virgie, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at Pikeville Methodist 
Hospital.  He was born at Robinson Creek, Feb. 7, 1937, a son of the late Seward 
"Butch" and Beatrice Fields Martin.  He was a retired school teacher employed by the 
Pike County Board of Education, a member of Thomas C. Cecil Masonic Lodge #375 F&AM, a 
Shriner, a member of DeMolay, Annie D. Young Chapter #28 Order of Eastern Star, and 
the Methodist Church.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Fred Martin Jr. and 
Donnie Martin; and one daughter, Connie Martin.  He is survived by his wife, Janet 
Faye Six Martin; one son, Russell Seward Martin of Robinson Creek; and three sisters, 
Mary Louise Davis and Betty Sue Martin, both of Robinson Creek, and Audrey Martin 
Stringer of Texas.  Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Dec. 31, in the 
Lucas & Hall Funeral Home Chapel with Kaminski Robinson and Dennis Love officiating.

direction of Lucas & Hall Funeral Home of Pikeville.  Masonic services will be held at 
7 p.m. Wednesday.  


Harold Dean "Snag" Tackett, 49, of Caney Highway, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at 
Pikeville Methodist Hospital.  He was born at Caney, Nov. 8, 1949, a son of Dixie
Roberts Tackett and the late Russell Tackett.  He was disabled, formerly a mine 
foreman at Odyssy Coal Company, and a U.S. Army veteran.  He is survived by his wife, 
Edna Newsome Tackett. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 1, at
the Caney Freewill Baptist Church with John Vance, Billy Joe Estep and others 
Officiating. Burial will follow in the Three-Mile Cemetery at Dorton. Arrangements are 
under direction of Lucas & Hall Funeral Home of Pikeville.  Special services will be 
held at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. 


Eula V. Jude Lowe, 84, of Meathouse Road, Canada, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at the 
Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, W.Va.  She was born at Martin, March 15, 
1914, a daughter of the late Elias and Edna Maynard Jude.  She was a homemaker and a 
member of Mount Pleasant Old Regular Baptist Church since Oct. 12, 1975.  She is 
survived by three sons, Charlie Lowe and Elias Lowe, both of Oak Hill, Ohio, Andy Lowe 
of Pilgrim; four daughters, Dinah Runyon Dotson of Hardy, Judy Lowe of Baltimore, Md., 
Delma Newton and Sarah Goff, both of Canada; one brother, Ferrell Jude of West 
Virginia; one sister, Laura Ward of Kansas; one special great-grandson, Cody Phillips 
of Canada; 41 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several 
great-great-grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec.
31,at Mount Pleasant Old Regular Baptist Church with Bobby Scott, David Crigger and 
Frankie Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Thornsbury Cemetery at Canada.
Arrangements are under direction of Rogers Funeral Home of Belfry. 
Special services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday. 


Roydon Earl Stuck, 72, of Slones Branch, died at 10:55  p.m. Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, at 
Pikeville Methodist Hospital.  He was born Aug. 22, 1926, a son of the late Edgar
Stuck and Annie E. Klink.  He was a retired mechanic, a World War II veteran and
member of the Pikeville United Methodist Church.  He is survived by his wife, Betty J. 
Stuck; two sons, Larry L. Stuck of Carmi, Ill., and Evan E. Stuck of Belvidere, Ill.; 
one daughter, Diann L. Stuck of Bowling Fork; one brother, Harold Stuck of Sandusky, 
Ohio; one sister, Darlene Stuck of Sandusky; seven grandchildren and two 
great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were incomplete at presstime and will be 
announced by Thacker Memorial Funeral Home of Pikeville. 


Katherine Estep Jackson, 73, of Hurley, Va., died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998, at the home 
of her son, Eddie Jackson, of Fenton, Mich., following an extended illness. She was 
born in Dickenson County, Va., a daughter of the late John Henry and Sarah Elizabeth 
Taylor Estep.  She was a homemaker, a former assistant cook for Heritage Hall Nursing 
Home, and a member of the Kelsa Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.  She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Glenn "Buddy" Jackson, who died April 5, 1982; and one son. 
She is survived by four sons, Rabon Jackson of Holly, Mich., Alton Jackson of Linden, 
Mich., Danny Dale Jackson of Hurley, Eddie Glenn Jackson; three daughters, Mrs. Juda 
Dorff of Linden, Mrs. Nadine Justice of Hurley, Mrs. Bolena Coleman of Fenton. 
Two brothers, John Henry Estep Jr. of Stopover and J.C. Estep of Hurley; three 
sisters, Margaret Greer of Cedar Bluff, Va. Shirley Daugherty of Cocoa, Fla., Lula Mae
Dotson of Paw Paw; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Funeral services 
will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at the Kelsa Chapel Freewill Baptist Church 
with the Revs. E.C. Honaker, Britt Jackson, Berlin Wolford and Bobby Jackson 
officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va.
