J.T. PHILLIPS, 32, DIES AFTER OPERATION
Funeral services were held at Oaklawn chapel in Columbus, Wednesday morning at 
10:30 for J.T. Phillips, 32, well known former Schley countian, who died at a 
hospital there Monday night at 7 o’clock.  Mr. Phillips underwent an operation 
for appendicitis Friday night.  A native of Fellowship community in Schley 
county, Mr. Phillips was a farmer before going to Columbus several years ago 
to operate a grocery store.  His widow is the former Miss Mary Pilcher.  Mr. 
Phillips was a member of the Baptist church.  Survivors include his widow and 
one daughter, Marie; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Phillips of Lowe 
community; three sisters, Mrs. Otto Pilcher, of Ellaville; Mrs. L.R. Couch, 
Jr., of Columbus, and Mrs. Dudley Greer, of Box Springs, Ga.; one brother, 
Marvin E. Phillips, of Ellaville.  Burial was in Riverdale cemetery.  
Pallbearers were:  M.J. Arrington, Roy Heath, Labon Raley, William Jordan, 
Frank Tondee and Jim Miner.
