Sarah Allen

Mrs. Sarah Don Nell Allen, 72, of Danielsville, died Thursday, 
December 25, 2003.

A native of Madison County, Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and a member 
of Moon’s Grove Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Tellie Mae 
Rice McElroy, a daughter, Judy Sellers, two granddaughters, 
Mistie and Christy Sellers, a son-in-law, William Sellers, and a 
brother, Charles McElroy.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 27, at Moon’s 
Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Tony Lee and Forrest Ferguson 
officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Louis Sellers, 
Joe Alewine, Micah Ferguson, Tony Ferguson, Steve Allen and Terry 
Smith served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband, Grady Allen; daughters and 
sons-in-law, Elaine and Roger Alewine, Danielsville, and Tammy and 
Forrest Ferguson, Canon; brothers, Keith McElroy, Danielsville, 
and Ray McElroy, Easley, S.C.; grandchildren, Micah Ferguson, Tony 
Ferguson, Louis Sellers, Joe Alewine and Wendy Alewine; and great-
grandchildren, James Sellers, Zachary Sellers, Jordan Sellers and 
Taylor Pitts.

Brown Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.

Rebecca ‘Becky’ Duffell

Mrs. Rebecca C. “Becky” Duffell, 52, of Athens, died Friday, 
December 26, 2003.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 28, in 
Athens Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Duffell is survived by her husband, Darrell Duffell; her 
mother, Evelyn Fowler Clark; three sons, Michael Duffell, Matthew 
Duffell and Mark Duffell, all of Athens; three brothers, Fred Evans 
Clark Jr., Toccoa, David R. Clark, Colbert, and Wayne Clark, 
Watkinsville; and nieces and nephews.

Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, was in charge of 
arrangements.

Lucille G. Garrett

Mrs. Lucille Gipson Garrett, 73, of Commerce, died Monday, 
December 22, 2003, at her residence of an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 24, 
in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, with the Rev. 
Jacob Armour officiating. Burial was in Maxwell Cemetery, 
Nicholson.

Mrs. Garrett is survived by her husband, Verner Garrett; two 
sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Norma Faye Garrett, 
Royston, and Darrell and Diane Garrett, Stephens; four 
sisters, Lois Phillips, Nicholson, Jean Watkins and Ruth 
Nunn, both of Union Point, and Birdie Dockery, Riverdale; 
two brothers, Horace Gipson, Grayson, and Dennis Gipson, 
Carnesville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Betty Welborn

Ms. Betty Welborn, of Union City, formerly of Danielsville, 
died Friday, December 26, 2003.

A native of Oklahoma City, Okla., Ms. Welborn was a daughter 
of the late Bruno Paul and Marie Ehret Schwalbe.

A resident of Danielsville for 42 years, Ms. Welborn was retired 
from the Madison County Board of Education. She was currently a 
member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Fayetteville, and was 
a former member of Jones Chapel United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held at noon Monday, December 29, in the 
chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, with the 
Rev. Mark Outlaw officiating. Burial was in the Jones Chapel 
United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Louanne Welborn, Atlanta; and a 
son, Robert E. Welborn, Sante Fe, N.M.

Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of 
arrangements.

Loyd Jack Satterfield, 65, a native of Wilkes County, died Saturday, 
December 27, 2003.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 29, in 
Evergreen Memorial Park.

Mr. Satterfield is survived by two sons, Grant L. Satterfield, 
Loganville, and Bryan S. Satterfield, Social Circle; one sister, 
Jean Bittle, Athens; one brother, David Satterfield, Comer; and 
three grandchildren.

Mrs. Ruth Joyce Murfin, 76, of Cary, N.C., formerly of Athens, 
died Tuesday, December 23, 2003, at Western Wake Medical Center.

Street Baptist Church, Port Huron, Mich.
Mrs. Murfin is survived by six sons, Arthur F. Murfin, Golden, 
Colo., Daniel Murfin, Colbert, Stephen Murfin, Willow Spring, 
N.C., James A. Murfin and Paul Murfin, both of Port Huron, Mich., 
and Philip Murfin, Fairview, N.C.; one sister, Phyllis Upper, 
Grand Rapids, Mich.; one brother, Reid P. Minich, Grand Rapids, 
Mich.; 13 grandchildren and one niece.

Pollock Randall Funeral Home, Port Huron, Mich., was in charge

Ellaree Wade

Mrs. Ellaree Wade, 83, of Alto, died Thursday, December 25, 2003, 
at Stephens County Hospital.

Mrs. Wade was born October 10, 1920, in Habersham County. She 
was a daughter of the late William J. and Daisy Faulkner Cook.

Mrs. Wade retired from Carwood Manufacturing and was a member 
of Crossroads Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a 
son, Thurman Dalton, a sister, Lovenia Dalton, and two brothers, 
Clinton Cook and Starlon Cook.

Funeral services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, December 28, 
at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, with the 
Rev. Anthony Shore officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Zion 
United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Clyde Garrison 
officiating at graveside.

Mrs. Wade is survived by her husband, Vance Wade, Alto; 
daughter, Ruth Kesler, Franklin County; sons, Gene Wade, Alto, 
Charles Dalton, Loyd Dalton and Earl Dalton, all of Colbert, 
and Guy Dalton, Gainesville; sisters, Ellen Newberry, Amberson 
Carlyle and Elvia Carlan, all of Alto, Nora Boggus, Gainesville, 
and Lola Bailey, Rome; 19 grandchildren and several great-
grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, was in charge of

Roger H. McConnell

Roger Harben McConnell, 89, of Carnesville, brother of Rea M. 
Harris, Carlton, died Saturday, December 27, 2003, at Cobb 
Memorial Hospital in Royston.

Born June 2, 1914, in Carnesville, Mr. McConnell was a son of the 
late John Freeman and Mary Ophelia Stevenson.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. McConnell served in the United 
States Army. He was a lawyer and a federal investigator with the 
United States Labor Department. Mr. McConnell was also a historian 
and a member of Nails Creek Baptist Church, Homer, where he served 
as a deacon. He was also a member of the Carnesville Lions Club 
and served as past president of the Franklin County Historical 
Society.

Mr. McConnell was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene C. 
McConnell and David McCall McConnell.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 29, at 
Nails Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Duane Eller and Harold 
Sangster officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors, in addition to his sister, include two other sisters, 
Mary Sewell, Carnesville, and Helen M. Smith, Jefferson.

Memorials may be made to Nails Creek Baptist Church, 2721 Hwy. 51 N, 
Homer, GA 30547.

Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, was in charge of arrangements.

Barbara A. Dudnick

Mrs. Barbara Ann Walker Dudnick, 65, of Commerce, died Friday, 
December 26, 2003, at BJC Medical Center, Commerce.

Mrs. Dudnick was born September 6, 1938, in Fulton County, a 
daughter of the late Ann Ruff Meadows Walker. She was the wife 
of the late Harvey Dudnick.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 29, in 
the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with Rabbi 
Ronald Greson officiating. Burial was in Jackson Memorial 
Gardens, Commerce.

Mrs. Dudnick is survived by two sons, Chuck Colwell, Centerville, 
Tenn., and Jimmy Nichols, Jonesboro; three daughters, Beverly 
Fransen, Winter Park, Fla., Marlene Holbrooks, Toccoa, and 
Natalie Pinson, Commerce; one sister, Fran Stuls, Canton; 16 
grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Grace E. Ervin

Mrs. Grace Eubanks Ervin, 67, of Commerce, died Saturday, 
December 27, 2003, at her residence.

Mrs. Ervin was born in Banks County on January 21, 1936. She 
was a daughter of the late Tommy and Margie Crane Eubanks.

Mrs. Ervin retired from BJC Medical Center, Commerce, and was 
a member of Madison Street Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 29, in 
the chapel of Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, with the 
Revs. Marshall Smith and Henry Webb officiating.

Survivors include a son, David Ervin, Commerce; four brothers, 
Arthur Lee Eubanks, Johnny Eubanks and Bobby Eubanks, all of 
Commerce, and George Eubanks, Gainesville; three sisters, 
Betty Barrett and Lillie Mae Benton, both of Commerce, and 
Sharon Chamberlain, North Carolina; one grandson, Christopher 
Ervin, Commerce; and one granddaughter, Mary Beth Ervin, 
Commerce.

Donations may be made to the Lowe Syndrome Association, 
222 Lincoln Street, West Lafayette, IN 47906, in honor of 
Christopher Ervin.
