      Thelma Estelle Moore Boyd, 94, of 245 Pine Forest Drive died
   Tuesday, May 26, 1998.
      A native of Bradshaw, Va., Mrs. Boyd was a daughter of the late
   Thomas Wesley and Ida F. Moore and was the widow of Jay Boyd. She was
   a homemaker, a Methodist and a member of Lady Elks of Urbana.
      Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Mount Olive Cemetery,
   Mayview, Ill., with the Rev. David Alberts officiating.
      Survivors include three daughters, Rita Irene Boyd, Athens,
   Virginia Crawford, Columbus, Ind., and Opal Christie, Champagne, Ill.;
   two sisters, Dorothy Fackler, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Elizabeth
   Ivey, Dunedine, Fla.; a brother, Edward W. Moore, Portage, Ind.; and
   grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
      Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, is in charge of arrangements.
   Cecil H. Bray
   Winder
      Cecil H. Bray, 77, died Thursday, May 28, 1998.
      Mr. Bray was a son of the late Claud Cecil and Pearlie May Velma
   Allen Bray. He was a retired Army major with more than 20 years
   service and received numerous medals including the Bronze Star, Purple
   Heart, Combat Infantryman's Badge, Senior Parachutist, American
   Campaign, World War II Victory, Korean Service, W/2 Bronze Service
   Stars, United Nations Service, National Defense Service, Armed Forces
   Reserve, Distinguished Unit Citation, Navy Unit commendations and
   Republic of Korea Presidential Unit citation.
      Graveside services with full military honors will be at 2 p.m.
   Sunday in Barrow Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Donnie Pennington
   officiating.
      Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hanson Bray; two sons, Cecil
   Bray Jr. and Harold Bray, both of Seminole, Fla.; a stepdaughter,
   Deborah Wariner, Monroe; two sisters, Sybil Timone, Lakeland, Fla.,
   and Betty Barker, Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Dale Bray, Ormond
   Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
      The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at Smith Funeral
   Home.

      April L. Faris, 31, died Sunday, May 24, 1998.
      A native of Broward County, Fla., Mrs. Faris was a daughter of
   Joseph L. Faris, Winder, and Brenda Faris, Winder.
      Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wise-Connolly Funeral
   Home with the Rev. Gary Lattimore officiating.
      Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her fiance, Jim
   Smith, Winder; a son, Shawn David Faris, Winder; a sister, Cherayne
   Faris Luebke, Oakwood; a grandfather, Otis W. Blackwell Sr., Lake
   Placid, Fla.; and aunts and uncles.

   Lonnie O. Gunn

      Lonnie O. Gun of Hazel Street died Friday, May 29, 1998.
      A native of Taliaferro County, Mr. Gunn was a son of the late Mary
   Pearl Turnbull and William Gun. He was a retired barber shop owner.
      Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Callaway Funeral Home,
   Union Point, with the Rev. James Hall officiating. Burial will be in
   Greenlawn Cemetery, Union Point.
      Survivors include his wife, Ruby T. Gunn; a stepdaughter, Jeanne T.
   Richards, Porterdale; a sister, Drue Willie Moon, Greensboro; a
   brother, Joel Gunn, Montgomery, Ala.; two grandchildren and four
   great-grandchildren.
      Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

      Lucy Alma Johnson Hood died Sunday, May 24, 1998.
      A native of Madison County, Mrs. Hood was a daughter of the late
   Homer "Ham" and Cassie Griffieth Johnson and was the widow of Willie
   Melvin Hood. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lue Hood
   Bostwick. She was a member of Colbert Grove Baptist Church.
      Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Colbert Grove Baptist
   Church with the Revs. Ronnie Gantt, Henry Strong, William Jennings,
   J.W. Evans and Joe Barnett officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh
   Baptist Church Cemetery.
      Survivors include a daughter, Roberta Hood Crawford, and her
   husband, Ervin, Fairborn; six sons, Edward Lee Hood, and his wife,
   Patricia, Atlanta, David Hood and Harold Michael Hood, both of
   Carlton, Randolph Hood, New Orleans, La., Leonard Hood, and his wife,
   Sarah, Grayslake, Ill., and Willie Marvin Hood, and his wife, Rita,
   Fort Belvoir, Va.; four sisters, Chattie Mae Arnold and Annie James,
   both of Athens, Zettie Lee Johnson, Colbert, and Bertha Jones,
   Detroit; a brother, Eddie Johnson, Colbert; and nine grandchildren,
   Frederick Bostwick, Eddie Hood, Marilyn Bostwick, Regina Crawford,
   Reginald Crawford, Jason Hood, Chelsea Hood, Spencer Hood and Patrick
   Torrence.
      Pallbearers will be Nelson Long, deacons Roosevelt Howard, Gary
   Hill, Willie Waller and William Wooten, and Brother Charles Norman.
   Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Hood, Randolph Hood, Michael Hood,
   Reginald Crawford, Jason Hood, David Hood, Leonard Hood, Marvin Hood,
   Ervin Crawford and Eddie Hood. Nieces will serve as flower bearers.
   Shiloh and Colbert grove deaconesses and mothers will serve as
   honorary flower bearers.

      Gladys Velmar Parson, 83, of Highway 83, formerly of Homer, died
   Thursday, May 28, 1998.
      A native of Hiawassee, Mrs. Parson was a daughter of the late
   Robert and Naomi Loyd Spivey. She was a homemaker.
      Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Mount Carmel Baptist
   Church with the Revs. Ralph Smith and Curtis Hammonds officiating.
   Burial will be in Banks County Memorial Gardens, Homer.
      Survivors include a daughter, Carleen Welborn, Comer; two sons,
   Billy C. Parson, Cummings, and Luthanel "Luke" Parson, Homer; a
   sister, Opal Allen, Dalton; six grandchildren and four
   great-grandchildren.

      Hugh Gaines Rogers, 52, of 40 W. Beaverdam Road died Thursday, May
   28, 1998.
      A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Rogers was a son of Mary Martin
   Rogers Bowen of Winterville and the late Blaine Jackson Rogers. He was
   an electrician with Don Thumann Construction and a member of Joy
   Baptist Church.
      Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Welcome Avenue
   Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Steve Stephens and
   Horace Martin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
      Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his son, Rodney
   Gaines Rogers, Hull; a daughter, Rene Rogers Wilson, Athens; a
   brother, William Eugene Rogers, Winterville; a granddaughter, Mallory
   Jordan Rogers; and nieces and nephews.

      Charles W. Stamey, 60, died Friday, May 29, 1998.
      A native of Clarke County, Mr. Stamey was a son of Pearl Ward of
   Athens and the late William F. Stamey. He was an auto mechanic and a
   member of AMVETS Post 10 of Athens.
      Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bridges Funeral Home
   with the Rev. Chuck Mize officiating. Burial will be in Mizthah Church
   Cemetery.
      Survivors, in addition to his mother, include four daughters, Lauri
   Dunn, Woodstock, Charlene Shreve, Gray, Janice Harvey, Watkinsville,
   and Connie Baysden, Danielsville; two sons, Chuck Stamey, Nicholson,
   and Talmadge Stamey, Danielsville; three sisters, Virginia Anthony and
   Patsy Warner, both of Athens, and Peggy Stamey, Colbert; eight
   grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

   Brent Carey, Bill Christopher, Earl C. Lively and Jerry Fields.

   Joe Stevens
   Winter Park, Fla.
      Joe Stevens, 72, died Tuesday, May 26, 1998.
      Mr. Stevens was a native of Oglethorpe County. He was preceded in
   death by a son, Joe Bernard Stevens; three aunts, Louisiana Armstrong,
   Easter Collins and Minnie Williams; and five uncles, Tobe Stevens,
   Carey Stevens, West Stevens, Johney Stevens and J.D. Stevens.
      Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Golden Funeral Home.
      Survivors include his wife, Sally P. Stevens; cousins reared in the
   home, the Rev. and Mrs. Casey Stevens, Athens, and Emma Harris, Earl
   and Pauline Armstrong Strickland and Lillie Armstrong, all of
   Crawford; and two grandchildren.

      William Joseph Vinson, 40, of 517 Hill St. died Thursday, May 28,
   1998.
      A native of Fulton County, Mr. Vinson was a son of Joyce Griffin of
   Martin and Jimmy Vinson of Toccoa. He was employed in home building as
   a carpenter of the Baptist faith.
      Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Friday at Acree-Davis Funeral Home
   and the Rev. Roger Elrod officiating. Burial was in Zebulon Baptist
   Church Cemetery.
      Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his stepmother,
   Wilma Vinson, Toccoa; his stepfather, Randy Griffin, Martin; a
   daughter, Nicole Vinson, Toccoa; two sons, Jimmy Vinson and Brandon
   Vinson, both of Toccoa; three sisters, Brenda Herron and Anita
   Singleton, both of Toccoa, and Gail Crump, Martin; a brother, Tim
   Vinson, Mount Airy; two stepsisters, Tommie Brown, Eastanollee, and
   Cynthia Nicholson, Lavonia; two stepbrothers, Randolph Griffin and
   Richard Griffin, both of Martin; and two grandmothers, Mary Vinson and
   Rudine Setzer, both of Toccoa.

   Herron, Chris Heaton and Ray Vinson.
   Frank F. Weaver
   Hartwell
      Frank Fredrick Weaver, 80, of 896 Seed Cleaner Road died Thursday,
   May 28, 1998.
      A native of Hart County, Mr. Weaver was a son of the late James
   Bode and Lula Hilley Weaver. An Army veteran of World War II, he
   served in the 26th Infantry, Company "A", 778th Tank Battalion and
   received the Bronze Star, American Theater Service Ribbon,
   Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal and WWII Victory Medal.
   He was a retired cattle and poultry farmer, was Farmer of the Year in
   1963 and operated Campground Seed Co. for many years. He was a former
   member of the board of directors for FMX/Goldkist and a member of
   Bethany Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible
   Sunday school class and a former deacon.
      Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Bethany Baptist Church
   with Revs. Richard Bielski and Dalton Carrington officiating. Burial
   will be in Nancy Hart Memorial Park. The body will be placed in the
   church at 2:30 p.m.
      Survivors include his wife, Frances Banister Weaver; two daughters,
   Patsy W. McGee, Anderson, and Peggy Lawrence, Hartwell; two sisters,
   Josephine Banister, Carrollton, and Mozelle Vickery, Watkinsville;
   five brothers, Joe Weaver and William Weaver, both of Hartwell,
   Clinton Weaver and J.B. Weaver Jr., Athens, and Thomas Weaver,
   Braselton; and two grandchildren.
      The family is at the residence.

      Rita Ann Weaver, 44, of Carl Epps Road died Monday, May 25, 1998.
      A native of Madison County, Mrs. Weaver was the daughter of Joyce
   Whitley Edwards and the late Charlie Hoyt Whitley.

   Danielsville.
      Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Earnest
   Weaver; two sons, Erik Weaver and Scotty Weaver, both of Hull; two

      Lucy Haggard Sartain Whittington, 80, of Route 4, Box 249, died
   Thursday, May 28, 1998.
      A native of Madison County, Mrs. Whittington was a daughter of the
   late Carlton and Vera Culberson Haggard and was the widow of Harry
   Sartain and Lewis Whittington. She was preceded in death by a son,
   Lewis Darrell Whittington. She was retired from Commerce Blue Bell, a
   homemaker and a member of Ila Baptist Church.
      Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. today at Lord & Stephens Funeral
   Home, Danielsville, with the Rev. Hall Hollifield officiating. Burial
   will be in Ila Cemetery.
      Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Dillard, Leesburg; a son,
   Stephen Whittington, Ila; a stepdaughter, Darlene Lefler, Concord,
   N.C.; two sisters, Nonia Carey, Toccoa, and Eleanor Mize, Athens;
   seven grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and
   nieces and nephews.

   funeral home.

      James Henry Winkler, 53, of Kitchens Road died Friday, May 29,
   1998.
      A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Mr. Winkler was a son of the late
   Henry and Ruth Blackwood Winkler. He was an automobile mechanic and a
   member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
      Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Whitfield Funeral
   Home, Baldwin, with the Revs. Clyde Garrison and Roy Lee Mitchell
   officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
      Survivors include two sisters, Rachel Winkler and Brenda Winkler,
   both of Alto.
