   Pierce R. Colquitt
   Snellville
      Pierce R. Colquitt, 72, of 2834 Shane Drive died Tuesday, Sept. 1,
   1998.
      A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Colquitt was a son of the late
   Pierce R. and Bessie Lee Bray Colquitt. A Navy veteran of World War
   II, he was a retired sales manager for Sears.
      Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home,
   West, Bogart, with the Rev. Matthew Frederick officiating. Burial will
   be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
      Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Colquitt; three daughters,
   Martha Ann Spalding, Snellville, Brenda Joyce Cunningham, Honolulu,
   Hawaii, and Elaine Hogan, Warner Robins; two sisters, Elizabeth
   Summers, Shady Dale, and Peggy Curry, Greensboro; five grandchildren
   and nieces and nephews.
   Dr. Robert Farrell
   Athens
      Dr. Robert Lawrence Farrell, 72, of 320 Duncan Springs Road,
   Athens, died at his home on Monday, Aug. 31, 1998.
      Born in Zanesville, Ohio, he was the son of Lawrence Anthony and
   Helen Hamilton Farrell. He was professor emeritus of pathology in the
   College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia, where he
   taught for 15 years.
      Dr. Farrell was a graduate of David Anderson High School in Lisbon,
   Ohio, and he held the D.V.M., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from The Ohio
   State University, where he served on the faculty of the College of
   Veterinary Medicine for 23 years. In 1988, the College honored Dr.
   Farrell by presenting him with its Distinguished Alumnus Award.
      During World War II, Dr. Farrell served with the 399th Regiment of
   the 100th Infantry Division in France and Germany. He was awarded the
   Combat Infantryman Badge, the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star with
   Oakleaf Cluster.
      Until his death, Dr. Farrell served as vice president of continuing
   education for the Charles L. Davis D.V.M. Foundation. He was an elder
   of the First Christian Church of Athens and a longtime volunteer for
   the Athens unit of Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic. Dr. Farrell
   was a member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, the
   International Academy of Pathology, the American Veterinary Medical
   Association and the American Legion.
       Dr. Farrell is survived by his wife, Marilynn; a daughter, Lynn
   Farrell, Watkinsville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Jack R. and
   Alette Farrell, Davis, Calif., Mark R. and Katharine Farrell,
   Princeton, N.J., and Keith A. and Judy Farrell, Chicago; a sister,
   Mary Lou Kell, Warren, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Carly Farrell,
   Annie Farrell, Robert Farrell, Emily Farrell, Chloe Farrell, Elena
   Grassel and Sean Hunter.
      Visitation will be at Bernstein Funeral Home on Thursday, Sept. 3,
   from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Rev. Ray Austin is scheduled to conduct the
   funeral service at Athens First Christian Church on Friday, Sept. 4,
   at 11 a.m.
      Pallbearers are to include Dr. Farrell's three sons and Dr. David
   Tyler, Richard Lane and John Marshall. Honorary pallbearers are
   members of the Forum Sunday School Class and the Christian Men's
   Association of First Christian Church.
      Contributions can be made in Dr. Farrell's memory to Athens First

   Elise McFarlin
   Carnesville
      Elise Andrews McFarlin, 66, of 635 McFarlin Blvd., New Bethel
   Community, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 1998.
      A native of Franklin County, Mrs. McFarlin was a daughter of the
   late Paul Jones and Zella Vause Dalrymple Andrews. She was preceded in
   death by a daughter, Shirley McFarlin. She was a homemaker, served for
   many years as president of the Double Churches Volunteer Fire
   Department Ladies Auxiliary and was a member of New Bethel Baptist
   Church.
      Services will be at 3 p.m. today at New Bethel Baptist Church with
   the Revs. Charles Ivie and Tommy Childress. Burial will be in the
   church cemetery.
      Survivors include her husband, L.D. "Deck" McFarlin; two sons,
   Moyce McFarlin and Melvin McFarlin, both of Carnesville; two sisters,
   Sylvia McFarlin, Carnesville, and Dolores Lovell, Batesville; two
   brothers, Don Andrews, Duluth, and Cohen Andrews, Lawrenceville; four
   grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
      The family is at the home of Melvin and Janice McFarlin, 670
   McFarlin Blvd., New Bethel Community.
   Eugene T. Partain
   Cornelia
      Eugene T. Partain, 60, of B.C. Grant Road died Wednesday, Sept. 2,
   1998.
      A native of Franklin County, Mr. Partain was a son of Mattie Cotton
   Partain, Carnesville, and the late Fairell Partain. An Army veteran,
   he was owner and manager of apparel manufacturing companies for a
   number of years and at the time of his death was owner of Yonah
   Propane Gas Co., Cleveland. He was a member of Cornelia Lodge 92 F&AM
   and Level Grove Baptist Church.
      Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Whitfield Funeral Home with
   the Rev. Harold Sangster officiating. Burial will be in Yonah Memorial
   Gardens with Masonic services conducted by members of Cornelia Lodge
   92 F&AM.
      Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Norma Jean
   Perry Partain; two daughters, Lisa Partain Nicholson and Kellie
   Partain, both of Cornelia; four sisters, Peggy Paulk, Moultrie, Ruth
   Segars, Carnesville, Nell Goss, Cornelia, and Lynn Wilbanks, Baldwin;
   two brothers, Bill Partain, Tifton, and Bert Partain, Carnesville; and
   two grandsons.
      The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

      Mary Frances Rowe, 75, of 210 May St. died Wednesday, Sept. 2,
   1998.
      A native of Hall County, Mrs. Rowe was a daughter of the late
   Charlie and Lillie Mae Neisler Hooper and was the widow of Paul Rowe.
   She was a member of Grove Level Baptist
      Church.
      Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grove Level Baptist Church
   with the Revs. Jeff Appling and Lloyd Martin officiating. Burial will
   be in the church cemetery.
      Survivors include three sisters, Ruth Evans, Lula, and Dorothy
   Owens and Clara Hooper, both of Alto; two brothers, Roy Hooper,
   Gainesville, and Ronald Hooper, Cornelia; and nieces and nephews.
      The family is at the residence and will receive friends 7-9 p.m.
   today at Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce.
   Lee A. Sheridan
   Haines City, Fla.
      Lee A. Sheridan, 76, of 94 Bream St. died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998.
      A native of Nicholson, Mr. Sheridan was a son of the late Sally
   Hooper Morris and Sandy Sheridan. An Army veteran of World War II, he
   was a disabled veteran and a member of VFW, DAV and American Legion
   Post 8, Winter Haven, Fla. He received the European African Middle
   Eastern Campaign Ribbon, Purple Heart, Bronze Battle Star, American
   Defense Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge and Paratrooper Wings.
      Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Crisp-Coon Funeral Chapel,
   Winter Haven. Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Park.
      Survivors include his wife, Louise A. Sheridan; a daughter, Sherley
   Morrison, Winter Haven; a son, James W. Sheridan, Winter Haven; five
   daughters, Lelia Dye and Martha Lee, both of Elberton, Alice Saggus,
   Orlando, Fla., Nancy Jordon, Athens, and Roberta Melson, Marble, N.C.;
   two brothers, Ralph Sheridan, Bogart, and A.C. Sheridan, Nicholson;
   and a grandchild.
      The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral
   home.
   Virgil Smith

      Virgil Smith, 78, of 102 Biggs St. died Wednesday, Sept. 2, 1998.
      A native of Franklin County, Mr. Smith was a son of the late Walter
   Lee and Monnie Mae Pearson Smith. He was a retired weaver for Michelin
   Tire Co. He served in the Army during World War II, was a former
   Prisoner of War and received a Purple Heart. He was of the Baptist
   faith.
      Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Pruitte Funeral Home with the
   Rev. Gary Sanders officiating. Burial will be in Zidon Baptist Church
   Cemetery.
      Survivors include five sisters, Marien Brown and Frances Britt,
   both of Elberton, Deler Hackett and Louien Lee, both of Hartwell, and
   Lillie Mae Stevens, Hampton; and two brothers, Albert Smith, Elberton,
   and Lonnie Smith, Hartwell.
      The family is at the home of Marien and Donald Brown, 1207 Old
   Hartwell Road, Elberton, and will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at
   the funeral home.

      Helen Hewell Webb, 80, of 20 Chestnut St. died Tuesday, Sept. 1,
   1998.
      A native of Elbert County, Mrs. Webb was a daughter of the late
   Lester and Jessie Fortson Hewell. She was a homemaker and a member of
   Elberton First Baptist Church, the Civic League and several bridge
   clubs.
      Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Berry Funeral Home with the
   Revs. George Milton Hall and C.E. Jackson III officiating. Burial will
   be in Elmhurst Cemetery.
      Survivors include her husband, Johnson Webb; a daughter, Betty W.
   Stahl, Lilburn; two brothers, Chandler A. Hewell, Marietta, and Robert
   E. Hewell, Largo, Fla.; five grandchildren and two
   great-grandchildren.
