     Ruhmell S. Bell
     Athens
         Ruhmell Swindle Bell, 97, of 2202 S. Lumpkin St. dies Saturday,
     Nov. 16, 1996.
         A native of Madison County since she was eight years old, Mrs.
     Bell was a daughter of the late John William and Eula Mae Patridge
     Swindle and the widow of Roy F. Bell. She was preceded in death by
     a son, William T. Bell; and a daughter, Grace C. Mitchell. She
     served as a Salvation Army fund-raiser by playing her tambourine in
     downtown Athens for 42 years. She was often seen volunteering in a
     blue uniform and bonnet while standing on College Avenue. She would
     collect money for the Salvation Army from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., moving
     to different locations around downtown Athens on foot. She was a
     charter member of the Campus View Church of Christ.
         Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Bernstein Funeral
     Home Chapel with Steve Watson officiating. Burial will be in
     Evergreen Memorial Park.
         Survivors include two daughters, Betty Bell and Ruth Piatek,
     both of Athens; a daughter-in-law, Nell Bell, Bogart; three
     grandchildren, Ronald Piatek, Covington, David Joseph Piatek,
     Athens, and Freddie Bell, Athens; and two great-grandchildren,
     Donna Piatek, Savannah, and Chris Bell, Athens.
         In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American
     Diabetic Association.
         The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the
     funeral home.
     H. H. Chanell
     Martinez
         H. H. Lea Chanell, 92, of Martinez died Saturday, Nov. 16,
     1996.
         Funeral services and burial will be at Martinez King Mortuary.
         Survivors include two daughters, June Cabe, Lavonia, and
     Rebecca Byce, Martinez; and a son, J. H. Chanell, Conyers.

     Wilma E. Miller
     Madison
         Wilma Elizabeth Miller, 76, of 1020 Hodges Ave. died Saturday,
     Nov. 16, 1996.
         A native of Jackson County, Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the
     late Fred Elmer Thomas and Nannie Seay and a widow of John Raymond
     Miller. She was a homemaker.
         Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Faith Baptist
     Church with the Rev. Thomas Ghann officiating. The body will be
     placed in the church at noon. Burial will be in Buckhead City
     Cemetery.
         Survivors include a son, Marvin Miller, Madison; a daughter,
     Linda Roland, Milledgeville; a brother, Hayden Thomas, Atlanta; a
     sister, Leila Malcom, Conyers; four grandchildren; and five
     great-grandchildren.
         Simmons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
     James E. Sims
     Gillsville
         James Edward Sims, 71, of 542 Sims-Harris Road died Sunday,
     Nov. 17, 1996.
         A native of Banks County, Mr. Sims was a son of the late Ned
     and Bessie Brock Sims. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist
     Church.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pine Grove Baptist
     Church with the Revs. Darryl Womack and David Harbin officiating.
     Burial will be in the church cemetery.
         Survivors include his wife, Fannie S. Sims; three sons, Kenneth
     Sims and Ralph Sims, both of Gillsville, and Robert Sims,
     Gainesville; two daughters, Frances Whitey, Gillsville, and Marie
     Sims, Lawrenceville; five brothers, John Sims, W. F. Sims, Eugene
     Sims, George Sims and Jackie Sims, all of Gillsville; four sisters,
     Louise Irvin, Gainesville, Florence Whitehead, Gillsville, and Lois
     Loggins and Lucile Smith, both of Nicholson; and nine
     grandchildren.
         The family is at the residence.

     Royston
         Ola Mae Branyan Booth of 221 Wildcat Bridge Road died Sunday,
     Nov. 17, 1996.
         A native of Madison County, Mrs. Booth was a daughter of the
     late Asbury and Jewell Edwards Branyan. She was preceded in death
     by two sisters, Mary Baker and Helen McCarty, and a brother, Horace
     Branyan. She was retired from Oxford Manufacturing Co., Royston.
     She was a member of Diamond Hill Christian Church.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Chapel of Hall
     Funeral Home with the Revs. Williard Crider and Virgil Edwards
     officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Royston.
         Survivors include her husband, Bill Booth; and a son, Gary
     Booth, Royston.

     Susie M. Williams
     Athens
         Susie M. Williams, 89, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996.
         A native of Madison County, Mrs. Williams was a daughter of the
     late Berry and Nettie Davidson Looney. She was retired from White
     Hall Mills. She was of the Baptist faith.
         Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev.
     Jamie Doster officiating. Burial will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery.
         Survivors include four daughters, Ann Williams, Athens, Edna
     Arnold, Jefferson, Pam Savage, Valrica, Fla., and Lucille Lambert,
     Charleston, Tenn.; two sisters, Mattie Ingram and Bessie Looney,
     both of Crawford; seven grandchildren; and four
     great-grandchildren.
         The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at
     Bernstein Funeral Home.
     Hugh Daniel
     Hull
         Samuel Hugh Daniel, 89, of Oak Road died Sunday, Nov. 17, 1996.
         A native of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Daniel was a son of the late
     Samuel Henry and Viola England Daniel and the widower of Sally Mae
     Spratlin Daniel. He was retired from Swanton Ivy Motor Co. and was
     a member of Hull Baptist Church.
         Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Hull Baptist
     Church with the Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Burial will be in the
     church cemetery.
         Survivors include three sisters, Frances Hansford, Lucille
     Wilkes and Gladys Malcolm, all of Athens; and nieces and nephews.

     and Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens.
     M. Margaret Brennan
     Athens
         M. Margaret Brennan, 72, of 265 Rollingwood Drive died
     Saturday, Nov. 16, 1996.
         A native of Adel, she was a daughter of the late William and
     Elizabeth Melissa Bennett Lipsey. She had lived in the Athens area
     for the past four years.
         Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at the chapel of Lord
     and Stephens Funeral Home, East, with the Rev. Joe Alloway
     officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
         Survivors include her husband, Richard Brennan; a daughter,
     Patricia Ann Smith, Athens; two sons, Robert R. Brennan, Rochester,
     N.Y., and Michael K. Brennan, Pinellas Park, Fla.; three sisters,

         John Heron Carpenter, 32, of Route 1, Box 503, died Saturday,
     Nov. 16, 1996.
         A native of Madison, Wis., Mr. Carpenter was a son of Robert H.
     Carpenter, Middlesex, N.C., and Mona Goranson Carpenter, Comer. He
     was a graduate of Clarke Central High School and attended the
     University of Wisconsin.
         Memorial services will be at 9 a.m. today at the chapel of Lord
     and Stephens Funeral Home, East, with Dr. Bill David officiating.
         Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a sister, Rachel
     Carpenter Ashton, London, England; and grandparents, Ruth
