Mark Amodei Dies Suddenly May 29 From Heart Attack; Brother of Mrs. Yater Was Frequent Visitor; Mr. Mark
Amodei, 41, of Oakland, brother of Mrs. Gavin Yater, died suddenly May 29, from a heart attack.  Burial was June 2, at
Carson City. He was a frequent visitor here of the home of Mrs. Yater.  He was a civil engineer in Oakland. He leaves his
wife Lillian, a son Don and a daughter Shirley. Mrs. Yater accompanied by Bonnie Yater attended the funeral services.
After driving Mrs. Yater back to Patterson, Bonnie returned to San Francisco.

Oakland Woman Killed In Auto Accident; A truck and car collision Tuesday afternoon three miles south of Patterson on
Highway 33 claimed the life of Mrs. Alice C.  Bierman, 51, of Oakland. The accident occurred when her husband, August
Bierman, attempted to pass a truck. The truck made a left turn at the same time, ramming into the car, causing it to skid
out of control and hit a power pole on the Southern Pacific right of way. Mrs. Bierman was thrown 20 feet from the car
and was apparently killed instantly. The couple was taken to Del Puerto Hospital, where Mr. Bierman is bing treated for
multiple bruises on the head and arms.  Two fingers on his left hand are severely lacerated. The Bierman's were en route
to Gustine for duck hunting. The truck was driven by Edward Joseph Baetz, 18, Crows Landing. It is owned by John Van
Hoven, also of Crows Landing. No citations have been given.  Mrs. Bierman is also survived by a son, Paul, of Oakland.
Burial services will be in Oakland.

Three Killed in Collision Saturday; Johnnie Ruth Bryan; Three persons were fatally injured in a three-car collision at
2:30 Saturday afternoon on the Maze road, 12 miles west of Modesto. A car driven by Eugene Lockett, 32, Castle Field
airman, passed another vehicle driven by Mrs. J. T. Tyra, 37, Ceres, going west and collided head on with the car driven
by William Grady Bryan of South San Francisco traveling east. Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Bryan, 25, Bryan's wife; Richard
Grady Bryan, 1, son, and Barbara Ann Peddy, 9, Mrs. Bryan's niece, were killed. The bodies were removed Monday from
the Evans Funeral chapel to South San Francisco for burial services.

Mrs. Mary Burkes Passes Away; Mrs. Mary Burkes, who lived in Patterson from 1913 to 1944, passed away of a heart
ailment August 17 at Balboa, Calif., according to word received by The Irrigator. She leaves a daughter, Emma Holt of
Balboa. Her husband Frank preceded her in death a few years ago.

Joseph Cooper, 50, Dies at Tomato Pickers Camp; Joseph Cooper, 50, died of a heart attack Sunday at the Sandoval
tomato pickers camp, 31/2 miles west of Westley. Cooper is survived by his wife Maxine and several children of
Berkeley. The Evans Funeral Chapel shipped~the body to Oakland for burial services Monday.

Funeral Services Held Tuesday For Mrs. Mary Costa; Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning at the
Sacred Heart Church for Mrs. Mary Costa. Mrs. Costa, a native of the Azores and a Patterson resident for 17 years,
passed away at Del Puerto Hospital Friday evening after a lengthy illness.  She was 82 years old. Surviving her are one
son. Frank and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Costa, two grandchildren, all of Patterson, and one sister in the Azores. Rosary
services were held Monday night at Evans Funeral chapel.  Interment was at Santa Clara Cemetery, Santa Clara.
Serving as pall bearers were Ernest Gonzales, Manuel Benis, Frank Benis, John Silva, Manuel Azevedo and Frank
Airozo.

Mrs. Crooks, 74, Taken By Death; Mrs. Eleanor Elizabeth Crooks, 74, died Sunday morning in a Modesto Hospital
following a lengthy illness. She was born Jan. 18, 1876 and was a native of Centerville, Calif..  For the past three years
she had made her home in Patterson with her son Cashues C. Crooks. Surviving are five sons. Louis S. Taylor of Santa
Cruz; Cashues L. Crooks, Los banos; Walter C. Crooks, Greenville and Arthur F. Crooks, Santa Cruz and two daughters,
Mrs. Juanita McDonald of Santa Cruz and Mrs. Amarelle Lucas of Loa Banos.  Twenty-one grandchildren and 17 great-
grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Evans funeral chapel
with Rev. Kenneth Miller of the Federated Church in charge.  Interment was in Del Puerto cemetery.

Services Held For Mrs. Eleanor Crooks; Funeral services for Mrs. Eleanor Elizabeth Crooks were held last Wednesday
afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Evans Funeral chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Miller of the Federated church in charge.
Interment was in Del Puerto cemetery. Mrs. Crooks passed away Feb. 5 in a Modesto hospital, following along illness.
Pall bearers at the funeral, all from Los Banos, were E. E. Fransworth, Wesley Ashley, Charles Cheveretti, Raymon
Richard, Raymon Bearver and Andrew Svenningsen.

A. R. Danielson Dies After Long Illness; Albert R. Danielson, 67, retired farmer and resident of Patterson since 1917,
died June 19 in the Emmanuel Hospital after a prolonged illness.  Dr. E. G.  Allen attending physician, placed the cause
of death at heart disease.  Mr. Danielson had a complicated heart condition brought on by an arthritic heart. He will be
interred at Del Puerto Cemetery.  Services will be held tomorrow morning at 10 a. m. at Evans Funeral Chapel.  Rev.
Kenneth Miller will conduct the services. He is survived by a daughter Evelyn of Patterson; a son Ebbe, of Portland; two
grandchildren, Karen and Alan; and two brothers and two sisters in Sweden.

Services Held For Albert Danielson; Services were held for Albert  R. Danielson at Evans Funeral Chapel last Friday at
1O a. m. Reverend Kenneth Miller conducted the services. Danielson, a resident of Patterson for 33 years, died Jun 19 of
a complicated heart condition.  He is survived by a daughter, Evelyn of Patterson; a son, Ebbe, of Portland; two
grandchildren, Karen and Alan; and two borthers and two sisters in Sweden.  He was interred in Del Puerto Cemetery.
Acting as pall bearers were Erik Olson, c. R. Almquist, Jacob Anderson, Garage Johnson, Gus Peterson, and Ed Carlson.

Joe M. Deniz Passes Away; funeral services were held Wednesday morning in Santa Clara for Joe M. Deniz, 49,
Westley. Daniz had been engaged in ranching in the Westley area for two years. He is survived by his wife and two sons,
Louis of Patterson and George of Santa Clara. Interment was in Santa Clara.

W. T. Denton Passes at 88; William T. Denton, 88, passed away at a Modesto Hospital Sunday. He is survived by
Clifford Johnston of Patterson and Delia Johnston Hubbell of Redding. Denton was a native of Michigan and has lived in
Patterson since 1920. Services were held Wednesday morning from the Evans funeral chapel with Reverend Kenneth
Miller and Dr. G. A. Werner of the college of Pacific conducting the services. Interment was at Del Puerto cemetery.

John Engstrom Passes Away; John Engstrom, 85, died yesterday morning after an extended illness. He was a native of
Sweden and had lived in Patterson since 1924. He is survived by a brother, Otto Engstrom of Minn, and a nephew, Alvin
Nelson of Patterson, with whom he lived on Orange Avenue. Services will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock from the Evans
Funeral chapel with Reverend C. A. Nylund conducting.  Interment will be at Del Puerto Cemetery.

Joe Ferreira Dies of Heart Attack; Joe A. Ferreira, 54, died of a heart attack at 2:15 Sunday afternoon at the Sacred Heart
Church.  He was attending the wedding of his daughter, Elsie. He was a native of the Azores and lived here for about 51
years.  He was an active me3mber of the Patterson IDES. He is survived by his wife, Angelina; four daughters, Mrs. Jack
Medina of Fernadale; Olivia and Barbara Ferreira of Patterson and Elsie Silva of Patterson three sister, Mrs. Isabell
Homer of Patterson and two sisters in the Azores. Rosary services were held Tuesday night at 8 p.m. at Evans Funeral
chapel and services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart church. Pall bearers were Manuel martin,
Domingoes farinha, John Miranda, Tony Silva, J. M. Medina and John Tosti. Ferreira will be interred at the Mary's
Cemetery, Patterson.

Cal Fatality Has Relatives Here; Gerald L. Foletta, 18, the University of California student who was killed during an
initiation stunt Saturday, is the nephew of Mr. and Mrs. C. I. Cheatham of Westley. He was one of two students hit by an
automobile on a highway in Contra Costa County. Five students had been dumped clad in burlap sacks out on the
highway and told to get back to Berkeley as best they could. The five had spread across the road when the car came over
the crest of a bill and hit Foletta and Theodore Glassnow of San Francisco.  Glassnow Suffered internal injuries as well
as cuts and bruises.  The other three students escaped injury.

Minnie Hansen Dies After Short Illness; Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Minnie Hansen last Saturday at 10
a.m. in Evans Funeral Chapel. She died August 31 in the Del Puerto Hospital afer a short illness. Rev. Kenneth Miller,
pastor of the Federated Church. conducted services.  She was interred in Hills Ferry Cemetery, Newman. Born in
Germany. January 9, 1878, she came to Newman in 1892, then moved to the Patterson area in 1902. She is survived by a
son, Niel Hansen; two granddaughters, Mrs. Rudolph Hansen and Miss Wilma Hansen: a great grandson, Steven David
Hansen; two brothers, Ewald  J. Brown of Reedley and Ferdinand Brown of Newman; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Hoigh
of Newman and Mrs. Lena Lowry of Oakdale.

Funeral Services Held For Uncle Of Local Woman; Funeral services were held Monday for Fred William Huber of
Sacramento, one of the early pioneers of Newman and an uncle of Mrs. Myron Riddle of Patterson.  Burial was in the
family plot at Newman. The following relatives and friends who came to attend the services were received in the Riddle
home in Patterson.  They were Mrs. Freda Winters, Mr. And Mrs. Guy Thompson, Mr. And Mrs. Dale Thompson, Mr.

Services Held For Albin Johnson, 72, Early Local Rancher; Albin .Johnson, a rancher near Patterson since 1911, died at
his home on Orange Avenue Monday morning a after several months illness.  He was 72 years old. Born in Sweden, the
deceased came to Chicago in 1898 where he resided until 1911, when he resided until 1911, when he moved with his
family to Patterson. He was a member of the Mission Covenant Church where he has actively served in various capacities
since its organization in 1911. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Evans Funeral Chapel, with the
Rev. C. A. Nylund of the Mission Covenant Church in charge.  Interment was in Del Puerto Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Walter Johnson, Paul Johnson and Stanley Johnson, all sons of the deceased; Orville Balswick and Fred Hansen sons-in-
law, and Merrill Johnson, nephew. Honorary pall bearers were C. P. Peterson, G. H. Peterson, Erick Ohlson, C. R.
Almquist, Edwin fredrickson, and J. B. Anderson. Surviving Mr. Johnson are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Johnson; two
daughters, Mrs. Linnea Hansen of Patterson and mrs. Frances Balswick of Turlock; three sons, Walter Johnson, Paul
Johnson and Stanley Johnson, all of Patterson, two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Johnson of San Francisco and one residing in
Norway, three brothers, George A Johnson of Patterson, Carl J Johnson of Chicago, and one in Sweden.  Also surviving
are eight grandchildren.

Walfrid Knutson, Local Civic Leader, Dies Suddenly;
The entire Patterson community was saddened by the death of Walfrid Knutson, 70, one of the early Patterson settlers
and one of its great civic leaders.  Mr. Knutson died very suddenly Sunday morning in his home on North third Street.
Funeral services, in charge of Evans funeral chapel, were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Federated Church conducted by
the Rev. Kenneth Miller.  Interment was in Del Puerto cemetery. The flag atop the city hall flew at half mast in his
memory and Patterson stores were closed during the hour of the service. Pall bearers were W. W. Cox of Westley,
William Ralston, Julius Hatlen, F. S. Harrison, C. M. Mack and J. S. Fiske, all of Patterson.  Mr. Knutson was born July
10, 1879 at Jamtland, Sweden.  He came to America in 1906 and to Patterson in the early fall of 1911.  When the city of
Patterson was incorporated in 1920, he became a member of its first city council and from 1924 to 1928 ably served it as
mayor. He took an active part in all civic activities and was a members of the board of trustees of Patterson High School
for many years, and a trustee of the old Presbyterian church. Mr. Knutson followed the building trade and many of
Patterson's public buildings and fine residences were built under his supervision.  His greatest achievement as a
contractor was the building of the Patterson City Hall.  He also served as contractor of the Patterson Theater, the High
School Gymnasium, what is now the Arden Creamery and the High School at Newman. For many years he was a member
of the building committee of the Federated Church and when final plans were completed for the construction of the new
educational unit, he was prevailed upon to take over the job as contractor.  A definite date for completion of the building
had not been set at the time of his death and work is still going on.

Funeral Services Held Yesterday For Malcolm LeRoy; Funeral services were held yesterday for Malcolm L. LeRoy, 56,
who died suddenly Monday. He was born in Ontario, Canada and came to Newman in 1930.  H had lived in Patterson the
last three years where he was manager of the Poultry Producers. He also was a member of the Lions Club.  He is survived
by his widow, Grace; a brother William LeRoy of Saskatchewan, Canada, and four sisters, Ida LeRoy, Mrs. Rae Boyless
and Mrs. Victor Obey of LeRoy Canada, and Mrs. W. J. Herrick of Chicago. Funeral services were conducted by
Reverend Kenneth Miller from the Evans Funeral chapel. Interment was at the Hills Ferry Cemetery in Newman in the
I.O.O.F; plot. Pallbearer were: Olie Grimes, Tom Jackson, Weldon Hoessel, Walter Lee, William Lyons and Donald
McGee of Gustine.

Scott Lester Dies While On Trip; Mr. And Mrs. G. R. Searl were called to Placerville at 3:30 pm, Friday morning
because of the sudden illness of Mrs. Searl's uncle, Mr. W. Scott Lester, a resident of Turlock. He and his wife had been
on a short auto trip into the part of the state expecting to return home on Saturday.  He took suddenly ill and was taken to
the hospital there.  He passes away at 4:15 am Saturday morning. He was 80 years old and is survived by his wife, to who
he had been married for 57 years. The funeral was held in Berkeley Wednesday morning with burial at Mt. View
Cemetery in Oakland.  Mr. And Mrs. Seal and their daughter, Mrs. Lewis Ramos of Newman, accompanied Mrs. Lester
to Berkeley on Tuesday.

Stanley E. Link Services Saturday; Funeral services for Stanley Earl Link, 25, of Manteca, will be held Saturday at 2 pm,
from the Evans Funeral chapel. Link passed away Monday night in the Turlock Hospital as a result of burns received
when his clothing caught fire from a gasoline explosion Monday morning at the Standard Oil Company's plant in
Turlock.
Link was a native of Illinois and lived in Patterson where he was a member of the V. F. W., and Lions club. He leaves his
widow, Wilma Dobbs Link, a daughter Cynthia Jeannie, and his mother, Oilie of Illinois and three brothers, Donald of
Martinez and Robert and Paul of Illinois. Service will be conducted by reverend c. A. Nylund. The American Legion will
have a color guard, bugler and firing squad at the graveside services. Interment will be at Del Puerto cemetery.

Service Held For Mrs. Lyons; Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Justina Lyons, 61, were held Monday afternoon at 2
o'clock in the Evan funeral Chapel with the Rev. C. A. Nylund of the Mission Covenant Church in charge.  Interment was
in Del Puerto cemetery. Pall bearers were C. P. Peterson, C. R. Almquist, Erick Ohlson, Richard Kolander, George
Johnson and J. B. Anderson. Mr. Lyons died Friday at her home on Olive Avenue.  She was born April 13, 1888 in
Sweden and had been a resident of this community since 1919. Surviving her are her husband, Emil Lyons and a son
Stanley Lyons, both of Patterson; a sister, Emma Leijon of Palo alto and two sisters and two borthers in Sweden

Services Are Held For Paul Mack; funeral services were conducted for Paul mack, 72, of Patterson at Evans Chapel last
Saturday.  Rev. Kenneth D. Miller, pastor of the Federated Church officiated. Mack died early Thursday morning in
Modesto after an extended illness.  He was inferred in Oakdale Cemetery.  He was a native of Nevada. He is survived by
a sister, Mrs. Eva L. Jeness, Los gatos, and a brother, Charles Mack, Patterson.

Tom Martin Dies suddenly Monday; Patterson residents were shocked to hear of the death of Thomas A. Martin, Sr., 47.
who died suddenly early Monday morning at his home on Del Puerto Avenue. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2
p. m. in the Evans Funeral Chapel in charge of the Rev. C. Adolph Nylund of the Mission Covenant Church. Burial was
in Del Puerto Cemetery. Mr. Martin was born May 25, 1902, at Furgus Falls, Minn., and spent much of his early
childhood there. On August 15, 1925, he was married to Martha Olson.  The Martin family came to Patterson 10 years
ago and Mr. Martin purchased the Patterson Cold Storage Plant which he operated until a little more than a year ago. He
had only a short time ago purchased the former Fred Blosser ranch.  The deceased was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors are the widow and two children, Thomas A. Martin, Jr., and Betty Martin, both of Patterson; also three
brothers, Henry martin and Floyd Martin of Oakdale and Charles Martin of Mount Vernon, Wash.; a half brother
Lawrence Olson of Furgus Falls Minn., a half sister Mrs. L. M. Mayhew of Nebraska, and a sister Mrs. R. G. Markle of
Oakdale.

Four-Year-Old Boy Killed Friday; Four year old Billy Dean McGee of 330 Del Puerto was electrocuted last Friday while
playing in the yard of his grandmother, Mrs. B. J. Smith of 324 so. 4th Street.  The boy apparently was standing in a
puddle of water and touched a shorted pipe which was connected to the air conditioner.  The accident happened about 3
pm. Billy is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs John D. McGee, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. J. Smith of
Patterson and Mr. and Mrs. J. G. McGee of Waterford, and a sister, Jo Anne. Funeral services were held in Evans Chapel
Monday at 10 a m  Rev. H. C. Vancel of Newark and Rev. Kenedy of Patterson conducted the services Billy is interred in
Del Puerto Cemetery.  Friends and relatives from many San Joaquin valley points attended the services. Four of Billy's
uncles were pallbearers They were Richard McGee of Crows Landing, Eugene McGee of Patterson, Leon McGee of
Portland, Oregon, and C. D. Smith of Escalon.

Ole Morben, 80, Passes Away; Ole Morben, 80, Newman, passed away last Friday in a Modesto hospital.  Morben was a
Patterson resident from 1931 to 1940.  He leaves his wife, Edith of Modesto and nine children. Oliver Morben, son,
graduated from the Patterson High School and is with the Army in Germany. Other children living in California are
Rubin and Mrs. Clara Lillemoen of gustine and Sherman of Los Banos.  Burial services were held Monday in the Davis
Funeral Chapel in Newman. Interment was at the Newman cemetery.

Former School Superintendent Dies In Crash; Word has been received here of the death of former Elementary School
Superintendent James Munroe, who was killed when his auto collided with a train near Tehachapi. Funeral services were
held at Westminster, where his mother resides. Munroe left Patterson in 1940 and has been superintendent at
Westmoreland and principal at Knyo Kern.

Bishop O'Dowd Dies Following Auto Accident; It was with great sorrow that the Catholic people Patterson received the
news of the death of Bishop James T. O'Dowd, Auxiliary Bishop of San Francisco, Sunday. For it was only December 4
that the Bishop was in Patterson to consecrate the new Sacred Heart Church. Bishop O'Dowd died as the result of a
collision between the car in which he was riding and a freight train at Suisun Friday afternoon. Father Lema of the Sacred
Heart church told the Irrigator yesterday that the bishop's death was a great sock to him.  He said that Catholicism lost a
great leader as Bishop O'Dowd was respected by all who know him.  Father Lima plans a special services in his memory
in the near future.

Santa Maria Man Dies Of Injuries suffered In Fall; Injuries incurred in a fall from the top of a lumber truck just
Wednesday proved fatal to James Edward Parker, 41, of Santa Maria. Suffering from a fractured skull, fractured clavicle
and fractured vertebra, he died early Thursday morning at Del Puerto Hospital.

J. F. Parker Dies of Heart Attack; Jess Franklin Parker, 61, died early Saturday morning of a heart attack after a short
illness. He was a native of Texas, a veteran of World War II, and had been a resident of Patterson for the  last 15 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Parker; three sons, Milburn. ‘J' ‘D', and George, all of Patterson; two sisters, Mrs.
N.C. Harer of Patterson and Mrs. C: NI. Benham of Atwater; and brothers, Fred of Berkeley, and George and Clarence of
Patterson. Services were conducted by Rev. Lott of Pixley and Rev. Kenedy of Patterson at 2 pm, Monday in Evans
Chapel.  He was interred in Del Puerto Cemetery

Auto Accident Causes Death of Bob Parker; An automobile accident proved fatal Tuesday night to Robert Eugene
Parker, 18, of Westley, Patterson Union High School junior. Returning to Westley from Modesto, by the Grayson Road,
he fell asleep and failed to make a sharp turn between the two bridges on the road.  Brought into Dr. Allen's office about
8:30  P.   M., he said, 1 was getting awfully sleepy, but I thought I could make it home all right. He died later at Del
Puerto hospital from a punctured lung, a badly crushed chest and other injuries. He was the son of Mr. And Mrs. Lieg
Parker of Westley.  Funeral services are pending at Evans Funeral Chapel.

Funeral Services Held Friday For Robert Parker; Military Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at Evans
Funeral Chapel for Robert Eugene Parker, 18. Parker died Tuesday night following an automobile accident on the
Grayson Road.  He was a member of the junior class at Patterson Union High,  the Cadet Corp and the Turlock National
Guard. Cadet corps members served as pallbearers. They were Carl Faulkner, Dan Westley, Stanley Pike, Charles Stone,
Russell Smith and Leroy Morrison. Parker is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lige Parker of Westley; three sisters,
Carolyn, Laverne and Jessie Parker, and one brother, Z. T. Parker.  The services were conducted by his National Guard
unit from Turlock under the command of Capt. Gardner.  Interment was in Del Puerto Cemetery.

Three Killed in Collision Saturday; Barbara Ann Peddy; Three persons were fatally injured in a three-car collision at 2:30
Saturday afternoon on the Maze road, 12 miles west of Modesto. A car driven by Eugene Lockett, 32, Castle Field
airman, passed another vehicle driven by Mrs. J. T. Tyra, 37, Ceres, going west and collided head on with the car driven
by William Grady Bryan of South San Francisco traveling east. Mrs. Johnnie Ruth Bryan, 25, Bryan's wife; Richard
Grady Bryan, 1, son, and Barbara Ann Peddy, 9, Mrs. Bryan's niece, were killed. The bodies were removed Monday from
the Evans Funeral chapel to South San Francisco for burial services.

Warren Peters, 70, Patterson Resident 35 Years, Dies; Warren Leonard Peters, 70, died in a Modesto hospital November
20 after a long illness.  He was native of Greenville, Ohio, and had resided in Patterson for 35 years. Peters belonged to
the Patterson chamber of Commerce for many years.  He is survived by his wife, Gertrude, four brothers and one sister.
They are R. R. Peters of Patterson, O. O. Peters and Claude Peters, Ohio, Webb Peters, Detroit, Mich., and Mrs. Blanche
Craunbaugh, Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Evan Funeral Chapel.
Reverend Kenneth Miller conducted the services Interment was at Del Puerto Cemetery.

John J. Peterson Dies suddenly; John J. Peterson, 56, native of Michigan, died suddenly in San Francisco, Saturday.  He
was a resident of Patterson for 32 years until he moved to San Francisco five years ago. Mr. Peterson is survived by two
sisters, Mrs. Marie Heason of Sacramento and Mrs. Selma Mulford of San Francisco, and three brothers, Martin C.
Peterson, Phoenix, Arizona, Walter and Oscar Peterson of Patterson. Peterson, a veteran of World War I, was a member
of the Zane Irwin Post 93 of the American Legion in San Francisco. Services will be held today at 10 o'clock at the Evans
Funeral Chapel with Reverend Miller conducting the ceremony.  Interment will be at Del Puerto Cemetery.

Manuel J. Phillips Succumbs Sunday; Manuel J. Phillips, 74, died last Sunday at the Emanuel Hospital in Turlock after a
brief illness.  A stroke caused his death.  Phillips had been a resident of Patterson since 1920 Funeral services were held
at Nutman Funeral Home in Santa Clara at 9:30 a.m. yesterday. He is survived by his widow, Augusta Phillips, Patterson;
two brothers, William and George Phillips of Satna Clara; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Enos of Santa Clara and mrs. Marianne
Cochran of San Jose; and three grandchildren, Florence Neil and Ruth Phillips of Santa Clara.

Puerto Cemetery. Mrs. Prater died last Friday in the home of her daughter in Modesto. She was a native of Woodberry,

Illinois and a sister, Mrs. Isabelle Billingsley, also of Illinois.

Former Patterson Resident Dies In Berkeley Hospital; Private funeral services for Mrs. Grace Redmond, 55, former
Patterson resident, were held Friday at Oakland.  Mrs. Redmond died Tuesday in a Berkeley hospital following an
operation. Mrs. Redmond and her husband owned and operated the Oak flat Ranch near Patterson from 19128 until 1928.
From 1944 to 1945 they managed the Del Puerto Hotel here and of late had been residents of the bay area.  Mrs.
Redmond had recently been an employee of the Alameda Health Department. Only survivor is her husband, Ray G.
Redmond of Berkeley.

Grayson for six years and a native of Georgia. He is survived by four sons, J. B. Rhodes of Tennessee, and Chetus, Billy
and Donald Wayne of Greenfield, California; one grand-daughter of Greenfield; and two brothers, O. W. Rhodes of

Services Held Tuesday For Jack Ross, 73; Funeral services for Jack Ross, 73, who died suddenly in his home Friday
night, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Evans Funeral chapel. Mr. Ross had been a resident of Patterson for the last
seven years.  He was born in Pope Country, Arkansas, and came to California in 1937. Surviving him are his wife,
Fannie, five sons and five daughters.  They are Mrs. Neva Parker, Turlock; Mrs. Maudie Burgress, Mrs. Ollie Brinkman
and Mrs. Nattie Brinkman of Vernalis; Mrs. Anna May Cochran of Patterson, Jackson of Empire, Roosevelt of Modesto,
Arthur, David and Sanford of Patterson. Three brothers, Henry Ross of Arkansas, M. C. Ross and Alvin Ross of
Oklahoma, 23 grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive him. Pallbearers were Travis McDonald, Modesto;
Henry Brinkman, Vernalis; Lonnie Parker, Turlock; Todd Mount, Merced; Newt McCuiley Selma and Ray Little,
Patterson
Interment was at Del Puerto Cemetery.

Service Held Here For Mrs. Ollie Rouse; Funeral services for mrs. Ollie Rouse, 74, mother of mrs. William Hoylman of
Patterson, were held Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. in the Evan funeral chapel with the Rev. C. H. Terwilliger in charge.
Interment followed in Del Puerto cemetery. Mrs. Rouse, who was a native of Kentucky, died Saturday morning in a
Modesto Hospital following a short illness. Surviving her are nine children, Charles Sneed, Saratoga, Clifford sneed, Ben
Sneed, Walter Sneed, Celi Sneed and Mrs. Earl Vaughan all of Ceres, William Sneed, of Oakland.  Mrs. Bessie collins of
Riverbank and Mrs. Hoylman of Patterson.  Other survivors are four stepchildren, Mrs. Maurice Anderson of Patterson,
mrs. Lee Latimer of Brentwood, Mrs. Victor Statten, Delhi and James Rouse of Byron.  Also 35 grandchildren and 25
great grandchildren survive.

Services Held for Adolph R. Russell In San Francisco; Adolph R. Russell, son of mrs. J. A. McConnell of Westley,
passes away Thursday, march 2, at the age of 52. Services were held at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at the Maneely Chapel in
San Francisco with the Bethlehem Masonic Lodge in charge.  Cremation followed at Cypress Lawn on Tuesday.
Surviving Mr. Russell, besides his mother are his wife, Ann Russell of San Francisco and two brothers, James G. Russell
of Bell, Calif., and J. Paul Russell of Los Angeles.

Word Received Of Death Of Father-In-Law July 2; Word has just been received by Mrs. Bernice Russell of the death of
her father-in-law, Roy Russell of fort Worth, Texas.  He died July 2nd after being hit by a train. He became well know to
Patterson people last year when he visited here prior to the death of his son Floyd.  Mr. Russell was a conductor on the
Frisco Lines Railroad. He is survived by a son, Dillard, Modesto, and two grandchildren, Darlene and Donald Russell of
Patterson.

of Patterson were held last Wednesday with burial in the Modesto Cemetery. Mrs. Schmidt was a native of Visalia and
had lived in Modesto for 26 years.  Surviving her besides the son, Henry, are her husband, Henry Schmidt, Sr., a son

Firemen Find Man Buried To Death Sunday Morning; The Patterson Fire Department responded to two fire calls Sunday.
At about 9:15 a.m. firemen found Virgil Shotwell, about 36 burned to death, lying on a smoldering mattress in a cabin in
Azevedo's Camp. It was said that he had been living here about two weeks, having taken employment on a ranch here.
The sheriff's office is investigating. The department put out a grass fire to the south of the West Side Cleaners and
Laundry.  It was started by sparks from an incinerator.

Melvin Skidmore Dies In Oakland Hospital Monday; Melvin, Edward Skidmore, 44,  passed away Monday night in the
Pcralta Hospital at Oakland, following an operation. He had been ill for the past four years. Mr Skidmore was born Feb.
3, 1906 at Montrose, Colo, and spent most of his life there. In August of 1928 he came with his family to Patterson and
became foreman at the ranch of the late George F. Covell, where he worked until his death. Surviving him are his wife,
Bessie Mae, three children, Ronald, Richard and Barbara, all of Patterson; his parents Mr. And Mrs. F. E. Skidmore of
Delhi, Calif.; two sisters, Miss Velma Skidmore of Delhi and Mrs. Neoma McLaughlin of Hickman and a brother, W. F.
Skidmore in Nevada. Funeral services are to be held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Evans Funeral Chapel with the Rev.
Kenneth Miller of the Federated Church in charge.  Interment will be in Del Puerto Cemetery.

Services Held For Frank S. Stanley; Funeral services for Frank Stephen Stanley, 88, father of Mrs. W. W. Cox of
Westley, were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Shannon chapel at Modesto.  The Rev. Kenneth D. Miller of the
federated Church officiated and interment followed in the family plot in Masonic cemetery. Mr. Stanley was a \Crows
Landing merchant for 53 years.  He was born Nov. 2, 1861 in Colorado.  When a small child, he moved with his family to
Iowa and in 1882 came to California.  He worked in the lumber mills at Sonora and then came to Stanislaus county in
1883, residing at Turlock where he and his brother were builders.  They created some of the first buildings at Turlock and
also at Newman. In 1890, he came to Crows Landing where he established a general merchandise store and later had a
hardware store.  Mr Stanley retired seven years ago and had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Cox, since that time.
He was a member of Patterson Lodge No. 488, F & AM and the Presbyterian Church of Crows Landing.  His wife,
Margaret Jasper Stanley, died in 1913. Surviving him are tow daughters, Mrs. Cox of Westley and Mrs. Vernon F Grant
of Modesto, a son, Hubert F. Stanley of Oakland; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Sutton of Salinas; seven grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren.

Injuries Prove Fatal To Robert Clinton Storch; Funeral services for Robert Clinton Storch, 22, were held Monday
afternoon at 2 o'clock in Evans Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth. Miller of the Federated Church was in charge and
interment followed at Dcl Puerto Cemetery. Mr. Storch died Saturday of back injuries received last Thursday when a
Crows Landing warehouse under construction collapsed pinning him and three other men under fallen lumber. He was
born June 2, 1927 in Patterson and attended local schools.  During World War II, he served overseas in the south Pacific
and Japan.  Returning to Patterson, he was employed by John F. Grisez of Crows Landing. The deceased was a member
of the V.F.W. and the Westside sportsmen. Surviving are the widow. Mrs. Virginia Mae Storch, the former Virginia
Alvernez; his parents, Mr. And mrs. Peter Storch, Sir., of Patterson; three sisters, Mrs. Irene Terry of Santa Rosa, Mrs.
Ada Daily of Crows Landing and Mrs. Evelyn Daily of Patterson; three brothers, Gus Storch and Peter Storch, Jr., of
Patterson and Herman Storch of Madera. One brother, Harold was killed in World War II.  Pall bearers at the funeral
services are; Robert ///, Robert Alpland, James Puls, James Vascrri, Pete Brunei, Jr., and Leo Halseth.

George Sutton Passes Away; Kentuckian Was Resident of Patterson 21 Years; George Sutton. a Patterson resident for the
past 21 years, passed away Friday. A native of Kentucky, he was 82 years of age. Formerly in the wholesale lumber
business, he had made his home here with his daughter, Mrs. R. C. Fleharty, since his retirement. Three sons also survive
him; George of Berkeley; Stacey of concord and Philip of Soctia.  Nine grandchildren include William fleharty of
Englewood and George fleharty of Redding. Four great-grandchildren also survive him, as well as two sisters and two
brothers. Funeral services were held at Berkeley Monday.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Truman Held Wednesday; Mrs. Vera B. Truman, 66, died suddenly Saturday night at Del
Puerto Hospital following a heart attack. A native of Indiana, Mrs. Turner had lived in Patterson 37 years.  She was a
member of the Patterson Eastern Star Chapter for 22 years. Mrs. Truman is survived by her widower Fred, and two
brothers, Fred J. Fowler, Wabash, Indiana, and C. W. Fowler, Kokomo, Indiana. Funeral services were held yesterday
afternoon at the Evans Funeral chapel. Reverend Kenneth Miller conducted the services assisted by members of the
Eastern Star. Pallbearers were Tom Dempsey, Fred Ventuleth, Ray Nelson, O. S. Ball, Dr. E. G. Allen and C. L. Hensel.
Interment was a Del Puerto Cemetery.

Services Held Here For Mrs. Van Buskirk; Funeral services for Mrs Cora Belle Havenhill Van Buskirk, 90, widow of the
late Richard Van  Buskirk, Patterson pioneer, were held Wednesday afternoon in Evans Funeral Chapel at 2 p. m. The
Rev. Kenneth Miller of the Federated Church was in charge and interment followed in Modesto to Citizens Cemetery.
Mrs. Van Buskirk died Monday in the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Kenneth Frost of Modesto.  A native of Illinois,
she was born March 26, 1870.  The Van Buskirk family came to Patterson in 1913.  In 1929 Mrs. Van buskirk went to
live with a granddaughter, Mrs. I. J. Keefe at Berkeley and of late had lived with Mrs. Frost, at Modesto.  She was a
member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors ate a daughter', Mrs. Palmer A. Smith of Alhambra Valley. Martinez,
three grandchildren. Mrs. Frost of Modesto, Mrs. Keefe of Martinez and Richard Van Buskirk, El Cerrito and four great
grandchildren, Kenneth Jr., Marcia and Alan Palmer Frost, and Susan Van Buskirk. Pall bearers at the funeral were
William Logan, Elmer fink, Norman Aliport, William Ralston, Charles Muck and Al Kaas.

Mrs. Wellman Services Held; Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Wellman, 69, sister of mrs. Walfrid Knutson, were held at

was in charge and interment followed in Del Puerto Cemetery. Mrs. Wellman died Sunday night in the home of her

Hansel, of Grand forks, N. Dak. Pall bearers were Henry Johnson, Emil torrison, Manuel Knutson, Alfred Knutson, Carl

morning at 10 a. m..  He died in the county hospital Sunday after a short illness. Rev. E. G. Kennedy, pastor of the
Assembly of God Church, conducted services.  Whitbeck was a native of Wisconsin and a resident of Patterson for
several years.  He was interred in Del Puerto cemetery. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Virginia Whitbeck; three sons,
Eugene whitbeck of the East and Harry and Sherman whitbeck of Patterson; five daughters, Amber Schutz, Oregon;
Nellie Hudson, West Los Angeles; Mary Rosales, Culver city; Kathrin Wippert, Santa Monica; and Lily Whitbeck, of the
East; a brother and sister, Eugene Whitbeck and mrs. Effie Bymus, both of Wisconsin. He is also survived by several
grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Capt. Wilkins Dies Suddenly Of Polio In Korea Hospital; Word has been received by Patterson relatives that Captain
Donald F. Wilkins did of polio in Korea October 5. Captain Wilkins was the husband of Shirley Needham, former
Pattersonite and niece of Roy Needham. Prior to going to Korea, captain Wilkins was attached to a hospital in
Washington, D. C.. Mrs. Wilkins has been making her home in Ames, Iowa, with Wilkins parents while he was stationed
overseas.

Services Held Friday For Matt Williams; Funeral services for Matt J. Williams were held last Friday, November 10, at
the Evans Funeral Chapel. Mr. Williams, a well-respected resident of Patterson for the past six years, died at his home
last Wednesday evening after a long illness. A native of Grand Forks, N.D., he came to California 27 years ago. He lived
at Delhi for 22 years and was agricultural inspector for Merced county for 25 years. He was a member of Rotary Club,
Eastern Star and of the 71 Masonic Lodge for 40 years. Mr. and Mrs. Williams had observed their 40th wedding
anniversary last March. Survivors are his widow, Audrey; two daughters, Mrs. Norene Harmon and Barbara Williams of
Patterson and three grandsons, Clay, Tommy and Douglas Harmon. Reverend Kenneth Miller of 71 the Federated Church
officiated at the services. Les Carlson sang "The Lord's Prayer" and "Shepard Show Me How To Go."  Interment was at
Del Puerto Cemetery. The Masonic Lodge had charge of the graveside services headed by H. R. Smith.   Pallbearers were
Marion Wright, Vic Maksente, Dewey Sutherland, Donald Olson, Guy Allen and Ernest Danneson, Merced.
Honorary pallbearers were Rodney Edwards, Walter Filippini, Ivan Stewart, Elwyn Delphia, Lawrence Horrison, Cecil
Haile, Wade Cripe, G. H. Paterson and Leroy Myers Modesto.

Mrs. Coral Wood Services Held; Funeral services were held Monday from the Evans funeral chapel for Cora Lee Wood,
72, who died Saturday after a brief illness. Mrs. Wood was a native of Mississippi and is survived by seven daughters and
five sons.  They are the Mesdames O. W. Wilson, Patterson; L. R. Nichols, Westley; W. A. Hibdon, Delhi; Sarah Haas,
El Centro; John Wilson, Sanford Colo; Jack Beck, Hot springs, N. Mex.; A. L. Wood, Albuquerque, N Mex.; Victor B.
Wood, Vernalis; Eugene of Phoenix; J. W. Jr.. Of Espanola, N Mex.; and Clark and Cecil of White Swan Washington.
A sister, Mrs. O. K. Vauahn of Dennison, Texas, and brother Joe Estes, Waco, Texas, also survive her. Reverend
Kenneth Miller conducted the services.  The remains were shipped to Mountaineer, New Mexico, for interment.  Mrs.
Wood had lived in Patterson for the past year and made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Wilson of Patterson on
Mulberry Avenue.

Al T. Wright, 69, Buried Thursday; Al Taylor Wright, 69, who died at the Modesto Hospital on February 5 after a long
illness, was buried Thursday afternoon at Del Puerto cemetery. Although he has no known relatives in this area, his many
friends say that he has been a laborer on the West side for more than 20 years. Graveside services were conducted by the
Rev. Kenneth Miller.

the Federated Church with the Rev. Kenneth Miller in charge. Interment followed at Dcl Puerto Cemetery. Donald Doyle
Yancey. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Ora B. Yancey who reside near Vernalis, was born May 25, 1930 at Herrin, Ill.  He
died March 13 at Modesto. Surviving him, besides his parents, are two brothers, Ora B. Yancey, Jr., of Oakland and
Franklin at home and a sister Elwanda Odum of Richmond.
