HOMER COMMUNITY CEMETERY
Homer, Alaska

The Homer Community Cemetery in Homer, Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska is on East End
Road. From the intersection of Lake and East End Road it is 4/10s of a mile out of town on the
left. It is fenced and signed. The cemetery was originally part of the school section. It was
released and sold to private ownership. In 1967, to celebrate the Alaskan State centennial, one
acre was acquired by the City of Homer to be maintained as a cemetery. Margaret Anderson
identified the unmarked graves. The cemetery was read on July 12, 2002.

=========================================================================================

This cemetery is located on East End Road just outside the city of Homer and is the
oldest cemetery in the Homer area. There are very few tombstones; most of the graves
are marked with stones and stumps. The City of Homer maintains it.

Some years ago the residents of Homer gathered together to recollect who was buried
here and through a process of sorting out and verifying the facts with the Vital Statistics
Bureau the following names were collected and engraved on a plaque at the entrance
to the cemetery. There are some later burials in the cemetery whose names are not on
the plaque; they have been noted.

"Over the long years and from many lands they came -- ending life's journey here; and
each has found in this quiet place - eternity"
