     DIRECTIONS TO CEMETERY:  From Ligonier, take SR 711 south for 3.6 miles.  Turn right onto Barron Road, and drive 1.0 mile.  Mark right turn onto Darlington-Rector Road and drive for 0.3 miles.  Make right turn onto Zion Church Road.  Drive for 0.3 miles, and cemetery is on the right, opposit from the church.


     Taken from the Westmoreland County Historical Society Cemetery Index:  "Zion Church can trace oits history back to the early 1800's when a Somerset County blacksmith named Jacob Deeds (Dietz) moved to Ligonier Valley.  He was converted from the Lutheran faith and became a Methodist.  By the 1830's circuit riders were conducting services in his home.  A cgurch was erected sometime after 1850".

     Transcribed from stone monument in cemetery: ZION - Mother church of the Evangelical Association in the Ligonier Valley.  On this site stood the first church, built 1850.  Second church built 1875.  Erected 1978.
