Westmoreland County PAGenWeb Archives Tombstone Photos

During the period 1852 - 1854, most counties in Pennsylvania maintained a system of voluntary Death Registrations. These records were discontinued after 1854, and not resumed by the county until the 1890's. In 1906, the state began to keep mandatory death registrations. The records below from 1853 were taken from a microfilm copy of the originals that is located in the Pennsylvania Room of the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh, PA. The microfilm records appear to be incomplete for 1853, and end in June.
