The son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Frazier, 609 East Third Street, the boy had gone to the Rogue River with Jack Emerald of Coquille and his 4 children on a Sunday outing. Emerald said his daughter, Jean, 13, and the Frazier boy had paddled out into the river on a log. Jean decided to leave the log and swim the 20 feet to shore. Apparently the boy became frightened and jumped into the water, calling out, "I can't swim, help me." Jean swam to him and tried to bring him to shore, but the boy grabbed her and they both went to the bottom in 12 feet of water. The girl managed to free herself and got to shore where she called for help. There were a number of people on shore, but apparently none could swim. One woman got a rope and with it, Jean returned to try to find the boy, hoping to tie him to the rope. But her search efforts were in vain. Skindivers were called, and they worked until dark without success. Two boys found the body early Monday morning. Bob had often accompanied the Emeralds on Sunday outings, and Jack Emerald said he thought the boy could swim as the children had often gone in the water at LaVerne Park. Jean told her father she was surprised to learn he couldn't swim and had thought at first that he was joking with her. The Frazier boy was a friend of Jack Emerald, 12. Also on the outing were Gerald and James Emerald, 10 and 8, respectively. Bob was a student at Coquille Junior High School where he had completed the 8th grade last June. Funeral services will be Saturday at the Schroeder Brothers Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Harvey Carrol will officiate the services prior to interment at Myrtle Crest Gardens. Including his patrents, Bob is survived by 3 brothers, John, Myrtle Point; Daniel and David, Coquille; 3 sisters, Mrs. Brenda Henry, Seattle; Patricia and Teresa, Coquille; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Ely, Sacramento, California.
