Accident Injuries Claims Peggs Man  

Everett Carl Smith, 70 
Died Tuesday afternoon (March 18, 1958) in a Tahlequah hospital of injuries 
received in an automobile accident March 6.Jack Lamour, Oklahoma Highway 
patrol officer, said the accident which was unreported until after Mr. Smith’s 
death, occurred about 10 miles north of Hulbert a county road two weeks earlier. 

Driver of the 1950 Ford was Jessie Millsap 56 of Route 2, Hulbert Ok. Mr. Smith 
was the only passenger. Lamour said the car was traveling north when the driver 
attempted to make a right hand curve, ran off the left side of the road and struck 
a tree. Millsap was not injured. The death of Mr. Smith was attributed to 
contusions of the heart, lungs and brain. 
The death was the second traffic fatality in Cherokee County this year. 
A native of Madison, Kansas Mr. Smith had worked as a miner in California 
many years prior to his retirement about 10 years ago.
Since that time he had made his home in the Pegg’s community. 

Survivors are a son
C.E. (Cleo Edward) Smith   Hialeah, Fla. 
A daughter  Mrs. Ruth Munyon, Glendale, Ore.
3 brothers 
Earnest Smith of Freedom, Ok., J.A. Smith of Alice Ark.
And Clarence Smith of Ca.
2 sisters
Mrs. Sylvia Ferguson of Alva, Ok., and Mrs. Ethel Shultz of Ca.
11 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren. 
Services were set for 10: a.m. Thursday, March 20, in the New Home Chapel 
with burial in the New Home cemetery under the direction of Reed Culver. 
The  Reverend Remus Warren, Peggs Methodist pastor was to officiate.
