Extra genealogical data send to me on 19 Jan., 2008, by Jane Hall. Thank you jane for your kindness in sharing data. ~RmSizelove~ This was BARNET Shaffer, son of Aaron Shaffer and Susannah Alspach. His name sometimes was spelled BARNETT -- such as in the Military records. He enlisted as a Pvt. in Co. D, 12th Ohio Cavalry on 29 Oct. 1863 and mustered out with his Company on 14 Nov. 1865 in Nashville, TN. A search of the National Soldiers and Sailors register showed no one named Garrett Shaffer. Barnet was married to Sarah A. (unknown) and had four children that I know of: Armenia, b. ca 1867; Ella May, b. ca 1869; Lavina, b. ca 1875 and Vessie M., b. April 1880. I have not found this family after the 1880 census. In 1870 he & his family were still on the family farm with his mother. In 1880 they were in Appleton. He was born about 1842. Should I find anything further, I'll let you know. Barnet applied for a pension, so that application is on file at the National Archive. Barnet's brother, Levi Shaffer, also buried here, served in Co. B, Ohio National Guard Infantry. He received a pension as did his widow, Phoebe/Pheba Ann Harrison. Brother Perry Shaffer was in Co. H, 76th Ohio Infantry and was a pensioner, as was his widow Mary Gosnell. Aaron Shaffer was the brother of my GGG-grandfather, Daniel Shaffer. They were sons of John Shaffer and Rosannah Bennett who died in Licking Coutny sometime after 1850. I received a letter in 1971 from Carrie (Mrs. W. B.) Ellas of Newark, OH. She wrote as follows: "This is a copy I have of my great grandfather's family." Her great grandparents were Aaron and Susan A. Shaffer. "Barnett Shaffer - 4 children - 3 dead - their names were Minnie, Ella, Levina, Bessa" The names I sent were from the census. Thanks again. Jane Hall
