PARK CEMETERY

[Transcribed from parkhistory.jpg]

On September 6, 1876 land was purchased by council from
William Manley for a new cemetery. According to the tax map dept.
the cemetery consisted of 20 acres of land. This council also
provided a vault and other improvements. The cemetery has two
war memorials, one a legton mound in section E and the other is
at the back of the cemetery on the lower drive. A white iron
fence was put around the cemetery in 1995 adding much to the
appearance of the cemetery.

The Garrettsville Ladies' Cemetery Association was founded
April 8, 1897. Their purpose was to obtain funds to maintain and
beautify the cemetery. This organization, in 1996, is still very
involved in caring for their 2 cemeteries.

A map is available at parkmap.jpg
