Early drivers

Sun Times, Thursday, August 16, 1984

Early drivers had some close shaves

The first two autos in Brunswick were owned by Seeley Stebbins and Jay Livingstone. Stebbins was the careful driver, but Livingstone speedy.

Wouldn't you know that Stebbins was the first one to have an accident, running over a youngster? The child fell down and the car rolled over him without touching him - luckily.

The Methodist minister of the time then bought a car and had a one-door garage until the day he forgot to turn the car off and drove right through the back, tearing out the other wall.

Dr. Albert Wood is also credited with owning one of the first cars in Brunswick - a red Maxwell, in 1908. Another early car owner, despite mud roads, was Frank Brant.
