Halterman Cemetery, Adams Township, Ohio.
Text Transcription
Halterman Cemetery is a Cemetery in the Rosewood, Champaign County Ohio located at latitude - longitude coordinates of N 40.22228 and W -83.94383. This cemetery is located between state routes 29 and 245 and must be accessed via private driveway. My preference is to stop at the home and request permission to photograph the cemetery. Currently I have found no solid evidence this cemetery was deeded to the township. So as of June 2010 I treated this cemetery as a private property cemetery and requested permission to access the cemetery. There was no evidence this cemetery was ever platted. I read the cemetery from east to west and tried to read in rows. This became difficult towards row 14 when monuments where “piled” around the Terrell monument. Many of these monuments were in pieces and every attempt was made to find the pieces to construct a complete monument. Many were totally unreadable visually and were very difficult to photograph.
The earliest interment identifiable in Jun 2010 is 1831. The last verifiable interment was in May of 1924 when read in June 2010 There have been several “readings” of the cemetery monuments. A 1936 DAR publication of this cemetery was utilized in 2010 to compare with the photographs taken in 2010. This cemetery has deteriorated over the years. The Persinger family cleaned and mowed the cemetery in 2009. Many of the monuments were broken and unreadable. I could not positively identify all monuments or find monuments with all names. They are noted. As monument not visible as of June 2010
This cemetery has never had a complete reading or listing of all the graves in the cemetery. The fact is we will never be able to positively identify all who are interred here. The monuments were read from east to west and I photographed each row at the beginning down the row. As I photographed each row I labeled the row in which I found the monument. Many have row 14 which has many of the monuments piled beside the Terrel monument. This photo will be utilized for the persons who a monument was not visible as of June 2010.
