Sallie married Joseph Ebenezer Seigler 3/10/1849 - 12/20/1919; both buried at Starr Baptist Cemetery. They lived in Dark Corners Township, Anderson County, SC. The Anderson Independent "The Paper People Read" Sunday Morning, May 12, 1929 MRS. SEIGLER IS TAKEN BY DEATH Beloved Woman of Starr Community Succumbs to Long Illness. Funeral Be Held at Cross Roads Church Today. Mrs. Sallie Seigler, widow of the late Joseph E. Seigler, died at the family residence about one mile south of Starr yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock, following a long period of declining health. Some two years ago, Mrs. Seigler suffered a stroke of paralysis and she had been an invalid since that time. Her condition, however, did not become critical until several days ago. She had been confined to her bed for about one week. Mrs. Seigler was a native and lifelong resident of the Starr section of the county, and was beloved by an unusually large number of friends and relatives. A woman of sweet Christian character and sunny disposition, she was known far and near as a good neighbor and true friend, one who was ever ready and willing to aid or sympathize with those in illness, trouble, or need. Her kindly deeds and pleasing personality endeared her to a wide circle of friends as well as those who knew her intimately and while not wholly unexpected, the news of her passage cast a deep note of sadness through the entire Starr community. Mrs. Seigler was born 76 years ago, the daughter of the late William Jones and Elizabeth (Dean) Jones, prominent citizens of the l9wer part of the county. In early girlhood, she united with the Cross Roads Baptist church and during all of her long and useful life was one of the institutions most devoted members and untiring workers. She was a regular attendant of all services as long as the state of her health would permit, and in her passage, the institution suffers a distinct loss. Surviving her are three children: one son, T. Milton Seigler with whom she made her home, and two daughters, Mrs. Joe J. Smith of Starr and Mrs. J. B. Quarels of this city; she also leaves one brother, John Jones, of Elbert County, Georgia, and one sister, Mrs. Janie McGee, of the Starr section, and one half-sister, Mrs. Bellie McCalla, also of Starr. The last rites will be held from the cross Roads Baptist church at Starr this afternoon ast 4:30 o'clock. The Rev. W. B., Hawkins for many years pastor of the deceased, in association with the Rev. M. M. McCuen, the present pastor, will conduct the service. Following the last rites, the body will be laid to final rest in the family plot in the adjoining cemetery, besides that of her late husband who preceded her ten years ago. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers, and will include Messrs. Joe Major Smith, Hugh Smith, Barnard Smith, John Smith, Neal Seigler, and J. B. Quarles, Jr. McDougald-Bleckley Company, funeral directosr in charge. *********************************************************************************************** NOTICE: Printing the files within by non-commerical individuals and libraries is encouraged, as long as all notices and submitter information is included.
