Priest River Times Priest River, Idaho Geraldine (Gerry) Smith Williams, 92 Geraldine (Gerry) Smith Williams, 92, wife of former Priest Lake Community Pastor Herbert (Herb) Williams, went to be with God and her husband on July 6, 2004. She passed away peacefully in Los Altos, Calif. after a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure. She was born Geraldine Smith on Sept. 29, 1911 in Moravia, N.Y. She was the only child of Clarence and Ernestine Smith. Gerry attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill. , where she played the piano for evangelist Billy Graham. it was also there she met her future husband, Herbert A. Williams. They were married in Moravia, N.Y. on Dec. 29, 1942 and settled in Groton, Conn. where they pastored their first church. Gerry was executive secretary to the president of Cal Poly Pomona for ten years before they moved to Priest Lake in 1978. They pastored the Priest Lake Community Church until 1986 when Herb's health forced them to move to Morgan Hill, Calif. Gerry was an accomplished vocalist, pianist, and organist as demonstrated in her piano playing at the church. One of her favorite pastimes was sitting on the shores of Priest Lake reading. After Herb's death in 1993, Gerry moved to Menlo Park, Calif. to be nearer her daughters. She is survived by a son, Sheldon Williams of Green Valley, Calif., and two daughters, Patricia Pierce of Los Altos, Calif., and Susan Williams of Gilroy, Calif., along with four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Gerry will be terribly missed by all who knew her.
