Coeur d'Alene Press - The Daily Bee Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho <> Teance Whiteley, 84 Emma Jean "Teance" Whiteley, 84, entered into rest on Nov. 13, 2004, at Life Care Center. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Born Nov. 11, 1920, in Prosser, Wash., to James A. and Laura Foster, she joined siblings Barbara, Beth, Helen, Pauline and Jimmy. Teance grew up in the Coeur d'Alene area, where she enjoyed swimming in the lake with her friends. She attended Coeur d'Alene High School, and graduated in 1937. There she met her lifelong friends Vivian Fisher, Helen James, Peggy Osborne and Wilma Surplus. This group of friends continued to celebrate their birthdays with lunch every year they could. She still attended her high school reunions annually, including this year. In 1954, Teance married Charles "Chuck" Whiteley. They moved around during those early years together. They lived in Hooper, Wash., and Wastucna, Wash., where they owned Whiteley's Electric. They lived in Spokane before settling back in Coeur d'Alene in 1966. Teance began her career as a bookkeeper with the Hagadone Corporation, where she stayed until her retirement. After spending a year of retirement at home, she went stir crazy and returned from several more years working in the accounting office at the Resort. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Pauline, Helen and Jimmy, and husband Chuck in 2000. Teance is survived by her sisters Beth Scneckloth of Susanville, Calif., and Bobbie Hawthorne, Anacortes, Wash.; children Pam (Defabaugh) and husband Joe Jensen, Pocatello, Bill Whiteley, Coeur d'Alene, and Holly (Whiteley) and husband Michael Vanden Heuvel, Coeur d'Alene, Sandi (Whiteley) and husband Stan Harbert, Spokane, Mickey (Whiteley) and husband Harry Goolie, Coeur d'Alene, Barbie (Whiteley) and husband Gene Boyle, Kalispell, Mont. Teance has 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be 2-5 p.m. December 3 at Oak Crest Mobile Park Club House, 4301 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d'Alene. We would like to invite all friends and family to come and celebrate her life. She will be missed. We love you, mom!
