Coeur d'Alene Press - The Daily Bee Coeur d'Alene, Idaho <> Margaret Simon, 98 Margaret Simon passed away Sunday July 11, 2004, having lived almost an entire century, and those who knew her would say she lived her life to the fullest. Everyday was wonderful in Margaret's opinion and her positive enthusiasm was contagious. Born to Swedish immigrant parents on Oct. 27, 1905, in Evanston, Ill., she was proud of her Swedish heritage. Margaret and her twin sister, Alice, were close during their entire lives. As a teenager, Margaret was one of the first to bob her hair, and she often told stories of her flapper days during the Roaring 20's. In an age when women didn't often attend college, Margaret earned a bachelor's of arts degree in business from Northwestern University. After college, she worked as a securities analyst at the Continental Bank in downtown Chicago. Margaret married Robert Simon on April 15, 1932. They had three children: Carol, Bruce and Barry. In 1952, because of health problems, they left Chicago and relocated in North Idaho. They lived for over 40 years at Twin Lakes, where Margaret and her family were active members of the community. Young people up and down the lake all referred to her as "Mom" and her door was always open. Margaret loved the energy and activity of young people and she was a listening ear to any who wanted to stop by. The young people returned to " the lake" with their own children to visit for many years and "Mom" always insisted that all visitors have plenty to eat. Family was the most important thing in life to Margaret. She was proud of her children's and husband's accomplishments and, in later years, she took great joy in the lives of her four grandchildren. Her grandchildren loved her for her youthful spirit and quick sense of humor. They thought she was " spunky." In later years, Margaret lived and traveled with her daughter-in-law, Becky Simon. She lived in the Rathdrum area until her death. Margaret left a legacy of a life lived with exuberance and love. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Simon, sister Alice, son-in-law David Harrison and son Barry Simon. Margaret Simon is survived by her children Carol Harrison and Bruce (Pamela) ; daughter-in-law Becky Simon; grandchildren Rob Simon (Missy), Kris Carr ( Marcus), Frederic and Summer Simon; and six great-grandchildren. Viewing will be 5-7 p.m. July 14 at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel, who is in charge of arrangements. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. July 15 at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum.
