Coeur d'Alene Press - The Daily Bee Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho <> Fred Morrow, 89 Fred Noel Morrow, 89, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, after living a long and rich life. He was born Dec. 7, 1914, in Mildred, Mont., to James and Lorna (Marietta) Morrow. Fred spent most of his early years in eastern Montana. As a young man he worked for a construction company and married his high school sweetheart, Ella McDowell, in 1937. The family was transferred to Panama for four years where he served as superintendent of the company's Parts Department. Upon returning from Panama, Fred opened a hardware store in Baker, Mont., which he operated for 32 years. During those years he was an active leader in the community serving as mayor of Baker, president of the Chamber of Commerce, the Lion's Club, the Montana Hardware Association and the Rocky Mountain Association of Fairs. He was a member of the Fallon County Fair Board for 23 years and served on the Board of Directors of the Montana Hardware Association for 10 years. He also served on the Board of Trustees of the Baker School District. Fred devoted much of his time to his church and the Masonic Lodge in Baker. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and Al Bedoo Shrine. Fred's "little piece of heaven" was his lakefront property on Coeur d'Alene Lake where he, Ella, and his three daughters vacationed every summer. After his retirement in 1977, Fred and Ella built a new home on their property and enjoyed 14 wonderful years there before finally moving into the city in 1991. Fred was devoted to his family and his wife of 67 years. Admired by all who were fortunate to know him, he touched them with his kindness and made them laugh with his humor. To quote a loving nephew, "He earned his wings." Fred is survived by his wife, Ella, at home; daughters, Carolyn Havens and her husband, Jack, of Hayden, Diane Hammack and her husband, Fred, of Portland, and Jeannine Logozzo and her husband, Sam, of Brier, Wash.; a brother, Keith Morrow of Carson City, Nev.; sisters, Doris Bagley of St. George, Utah and Dorothy Biers of Sturgis, S.D.; grandchildren, Barbara Shrader and her husband, Donn of Kalispell, Mont., Meghan Hammack of Baltimore, and Michael Hammack of St. Louis.; great-grandchildren, Amanda and Braden Shrader of Kalispell, Mont.; and several nieces and nephews.
