Coeur d'Alene Press - The Daily Bee Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho <> Mac McMullen, 91 John Lloyd "Mac" McMullen died Nov. 11, 2004, in Sequim, Wash., at the age of 91. He was born April 15, 1913, in Arcola, Ill., and earned his bachelor of science degree in Illinois. Mac came west in the 1930s, hitchhiking with a friend from Illinois to California. Mac was a decorated veteran, serving in World War II as a laboratory specialist with the 19th General Hospital Group at army hospitals in England and France. Following the war, he earned master's and doctorate degrees at Washington State University. Mac taught at North Idaho Junior College and later was a professor at the University of Wyoming, and University of Idaho, where he was associate dean of the College of Letters and Sciences, until his retirement in 1978. He spent many summers during his teaching career working as a ranger naturalist at Glacier National Park. Mac married Lois Nogle on Nov. 27, 1946, in Post Falls. He and Lois loved to entertain and travel. They hosted dozens of foreign exchange students during Mac's career at University of Idaho, and in their retirement, they traveled throughout Europe, Scandinavia and New Zealand, visiting former exchange students. Mac loved to play the piano and was always willing to play a catchy tune when called upon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, on July 24, 2004. He is survived by his brother, Charles Roy McMullen of Westminster, Colo.; several nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law Glenn Nogle, Spokane.
