Priest River Times Priest River, Idaho Submitted by: Kristy Taylor [muddypaw@onemain.com] Hazel Dorothy Hunt, 81 Hazel Dorothy hunt, 81, a 50 year resident of Newport, passed away at Newport Hospital on Aug. 2, 2004, following an illness. She was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, on April 10, 1923. Hazel was one of eight girls and two boys born to Daniel and Elsie Martin. In her youth, she and her siblings worked at Armour Meat Packing in Calgary. In 1944, she met her future husband at a dance. U.S. Army sergeant, Doyle henry Hunt was stationed in Calgary. They married in Spokane on May 12 of that same year. They continued living in Spokane until moving to Newport in 1954. Hazel dearly loved her children. She also enjoyed cooking, crochet, knitting, gardening and working outside. Survivors include her husband at their home, two sons, Donald (and Gladys) Hunt, James H. (and Regine) Hunt, and one daughter, Sylvia (and David) Betz, all of Newport, nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and three sisters, Margaret Benner and Violet Skarupa, both of Calgary, and Ruby of Niagara Falls. A private cremation service was held. A family memorial will be held at a later date.
