He was born Dec. 17, 1918, on Hartson Street in Spokane to Frank and Elnora (Scharff) Hatfield. He lived in Spokane and attended Edison Grade School and North Central High School. Frank worked at the high school printing shop, then continued on with printing at Shaw Borden Printing. He joined the Navy during World War II and served on an LST 932. Frank returned to Spokane after the war, then met and married Frances Berggren on Sept. 8, 1946. He worked selling real estate for a short time, then purchased a business, Ace Transfer. After two years, he returned to printing, working as a foreman at the Valley Herald in Spokane Valley, a printing pressman at the Napa Register in Napa, Calif., and then at the Tacoma Tribune, in Tacoma, Wash. Frank retired in 1980 from the Spokesman-Review in Spokane. He and his wife Frances moved to Idaho in 2000 to be closer to family. Frank enjoyed cars and had restored a Model T Crystal Laundry Truck.
